You can download them but then you will not be able to add the Disney borders to those downloaded pictures.
You might want to pay for the 15 day extension, make the changes then download them again (you can download as many times as you like before they expire).
What it means - is that the time of day you took the pictures is the time of day they will disappear from the website. You can download them before they disappear, but once they are gone they are gone unless you add the 14 day extension. Work with the first pictures you took first , to be sure you are happy with those and download them and then move down the list by date and time.
Wanted to add that if for some reason you miss your deadline and still need to get them, Disney hangs on to them for a while after the expiration. I had this happen to me once and they were able to find them for me a few days after they "disappeared."
