Question about lined bifocals vs progressives

Good morning all.

Has anyone had lined bifocals or trifocals and then gone to progressives? Were you able to adjust to them without much difficulty? I'm told you lose some peripheral vision, did you find that to be a problem?

Thanks.

I had lined bifocals, went to progressives and, due to insurance issues, went back.

I never had any trouble adjusting to either. An hour, max.

Best of luck with your decision. Each has its adventages. (I finally decided that I prefer the lined, since I hated looking through the middle part of the progressives, but, as I said, it's a personal preference.)

Frames are so small now that I couldn't find any that would accomodate a lined trifocal prescription. The optician said lined bifocals/trifocals are being fazed out. In 5 - 10 years you won't be able to get them anymore! Anyone else heard this?

Thanks.

I haven't had lined ones, but I have progressives & just love them. My vision is excellent. It took me a week or two to get used to them.

DH just got progressives glasses a couple of months ago (after 30 years of wearing single vision contact lenses) and he was SURE they weren't working out for him for the first week. Now he loves them and won't wear anything else--only wears his single vision contacts for water sports!

That's an interesting comment-that lined bifocals are being phased out. I know that with frames being so small, I've had a real hard time finding some that would accomodate my bifocals. Maybe I should consider going to progressives.

I should add that I started wearing progressive contact lenses a year or two ago--I am not wearing contacts right now because of a dry eye problem, but I loved my contacts. I had a progressive lens in my right eye and a toric lens (single vision for distance, weighted for astigmatism) in my left eye. I highly recommend progressive contacts as well as glasses with progressive lenses.

When I wore bifocals I loved my progressives. I would never wear lined bifocals again. (My eyesight has evened out, for the worse, so I don't wear bifocals anymore.) The only problem I ever had was laying down on the sofa and trying to watch TV, which I don't do very often anyway.
