Question about Flight Change and Dining Plan

What if you made and paid for your flights for early in the morning or during the day...You paid for your Dining Plan for six days.....and your flight was changed so you couldn't be able to make any of the meals for your first day....? Are you just out of luck or would you have to scramble around to find a "two" credit restaurant at the last minute? Our group may grow from 9 people to 12 people...and I am in charge...Having never purchased the Dining Plan before...I'm a bit stressed about that and the possibilty of flight changes...:confused3

There is no connection between the number of dining plan credits you have (which are based on the number of nights you are staying) and the days on which you use them. If you end up arriving too late that day to eat, you can use the credits on other days. It's up to you if you use them by adding meals at two credit restaurants, or by simply using them at breakfast or lunch instead of dinner.

Hope that helps.

You will be fine...You can use your credits any which way you want until the night of the day you check-out...When you check-in you get all of your credits for as many NIGHTS you will be there...You are free to use them any way you want until you leave (even after check-out time) the World the day you depart...

So you can use your credits any day without a problem..Don't worry about the day you check-in...There will be plenty of days to use them in ANY ORDER that you want...Do not feel the need to do a 2 credit meal...One day (if you want) you can have 2 different table services (like a breakfast and dinner)..On another day you can have 2 counter services....OR you can use them on the day you check-out because you do not get credits for that day but you can sitll use them that day...You can sit down to a TS three times in one day if you really wanted...It is up to you how you use them...

Just make sure they are all gone before you leave Disney....Don't worry...The dining plan is great and you will be happy with the value and the food :goodvibes

Table Service credits are not exclusively dinner.....so what I'd do if I had an extra CS and TS credit is:

Morning after you arrive....start your trip off with a fun character meal (these are 1 TS credit)....my favorite is Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends...if you make your ADR for before the park opens you get the fun of walking down Main Street practically alone, can get some great photos in front of the castle without others in the background, and the food is pretty good. There are lots of other character meals too in case Pooh isn't a favorite. If character meals in general aren't your thing, Kona Cafe at Poly or Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge are delicious breakfasts as well.

Then....later that day use a CS meal for lunch.....and schedule a late dinner at a TS restaurant of your choice.

You've now used your one extra TS credit.

Then on another day I'd use my extra CS credit for a quick breakfast somewhere.....perhaps at your resort....or at France's Boulangerie Patisserie (this would also be a great treat anytime of day). The Norway bakery also has some great food that can either be a sweet breakfast or a yummy treat later in the day.

The extra snack credit is also easy to use.....keep in mind that if you're not an everyday snack person that you can use these at Goofy's Candy store in DTD. Many people go here on their last day to use up their leftover credits with treats that they can take home to keep the magic going a little longer, or to spread the magic to folks at home.

Rather than think of it as 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack credit a day....which makes many people feel they HAVE to use all 3 choices each day....think instead of your entire trip....if you're staying 7 nights than you have a pool of 7 TS, 7 CS and 7 snack credits. You can use them whenever you like....they're good from the moment you check in, until MIDNIGHT on the day you check out (so even if you have to check out at 11am, but your flight isn't until evening....leave your luggage with the front desk of your hotel to hold for you, go to the parks, enjoy a few last minute rides/shows, use up the last of your credits that day, return to your hotel to pick up your bags and depart for the airport. I always make my flight home late late in the day.....so I have a few last hours in the park, I can sleep on the flight home, lol.

Have fun! And don't sweat too much over flight changes....they happen, you adapt. Always check though....often the people doing the flight changes simply put everyone on the flight that is least booked at the time, not really giving much thought to the fact that if you booked a morning flight you probably won't be happy with an evening flight.....their goal is simply to clear that flight of passengers and get you on another flight to your destination. BUT....you CAN call them after you are moved and request another flight better suited to your needs....if there is space available they'll move you to that flight instead, so it's very possible your change can be minimally distruptive.

You didnt pay for the DDP for 6 days. You paid for 6 credits. Use them whenever you want

What if I already made all of my reservations for 12 people and our flights changed the day before..making it impossible to have dinner that first night...? I think it would be really hard to make changes that close for dinner reservations...especially so close and for 12 of us...and during President's Week.... Even if it was no big deal to miss the first night...I don't think I could get into even a "two credit" dinner for 12 of us for dinner (in order to use up the credits)...I think what I might do is just get the meal package for five days...and plan on just making regular reservations some place....If our plane was real late...we could cancel the reservations for that first day and just eat counter service and just pay for it...

I would cancel the ADR for the first night and just plan to use a CS credit for that night because you do also get a CS credit for each night on the plan...Then call Disney to make a new 1 credit ADR for some where/any where during the week...Do you have an ADR for the day you fly out? It might be nice to have a nice TS breakfast or lunch before leaving Disney World...Just pick a few places that you would like to eat and call to ask what they have available...You can always use the first day credit for snack and TS sometime during the week..Do not try to get a 2 credit meal...Pick a 1 credit place for breakfast, lunch or dinner sometime during the week...It is totally fine to have two TS in one day or like I said you can wait until the last day when you may have nothing already planned...

And I believe you cannot drop a day on the plan anyway...I am sure that it is all or nothing...But I could be wrong.

Ooh...I didn't think of that...yes...You are right...If we stay six nights...we have to purchase six meal days...I thought I really had it figured out...Even thought of making dinner reservations at the new Dinasaur resturant that is supposed to open in the fall at Downtown Disney....for our first night...I knew that it wouldn't be included in the Dining Plan...and figured...if our flight changed and we couldn't make it...it wouldn't be like we had given up a credit...Hmmmm...Good thing "People in the Know" are on this board!

Don't worry about "giving up a credit"...They do not charge you a credit if you do not show up for an ADR...It is nice to call to cancel but they do not charge you for not coming or even calling...You only get charged a cash penalty on those that require a credit card to hold the reservation...

As far as Dinosaur...I do not think it will be open when you are there...They are now saying the end of the year and they are not close to taking reservations yet...

I would call in the morning to make an ADR because the size of your party may limit your choices at this late date...

Do you need help with ideas on where to reserve? Really, think about reserving something for the day you check-out...A nice meal is a great way to end a trip!

This happened to us on our flight down, changed from 8am to 8 pm so we had to cancel our first day TS. So on our last day we added breakfast at the Crystral Palace. But you could add an additional TS to any day you are there or change one of your TS to a 2TS signature restaurant or Hoop De Doo or Luau dinner shows.

You are right...I could probably add a breakfast in there...We have a few men who like the big breakfasts...(We could make them "happy") ;) and if the Dinosaur Restaurant is open...We could still go there...Our large group isn't going until February...and it said the restaurant looks to be open in the fall...Hmmm...all kinds of choices now...that I didn't think of...Thanks to my fellow Disners!

Boma has a great breakfast bar if you can get over to the AK Lodge.

You do not purchase meal days. You are allotted dining credits based on how many NIGHTS you stay at your resort.

You may then use the credits in any combination over the length of your stay, but they expire if they're not used by midnight of your checkout day.

You may be correct to anticipate that T-Rex at Downtown Disney, if it is open for your trip, may not take the dining plan. It is owned by Landrys Restaurants, which also own the Rainforest Cafe. Rainforest Cafe doesn't take the dining plan. You may want to budget to pay for a meal at T-Rex if you want to eat there.

Landrys' Yak & Yeti does take the dining plan, but that is most likely because it is located inside the Animal Kingdom park.

you didn't mention the make up of your group, but I know if my family were travelling with other families that we would probably want to break away for a smaller immediate family dinner one. Maybe let every smaller group pick a restaurant away from the herd.

During our February trips in the past...We always ate dinner together...We'd break apart during the day a few times...(We "older" folks can't keep up with our adult children and grandchildren all the time)

I knew that we'd have to pay for six nights...but was concerned that instead of arriving at 1:00 in the afternoon...the flights could change to 8:00 at night....I'd still be arriving at night...but, wouldn't be able to use a sit down dinner credit that night...I was concerned that if I had already made reservations for around 6:00 and our plane was late or had changed...I'd have to scramble around to use it up...We leave early when we leave so we couldn't even use it for breakfast on the last day.

I thought if the Rex restaurant was open when we went...I could just make reservations for there for the first night...(if the plane was late, I'd just cancel)...I know that it wouldn't be included in the package and that I'd be paying for it. I'd use that credit (out of my six day credits) for one breakfast...then the other five days..I'd use those credits for dinner.;)

You could also just go ahead and make a contigency breakfast reservation in case you needed to cancel your first night TS due to late arriving flights.
