question about "first trip" and "birthday" pins

For the trip I'm planning in July, I'm going with my boyfriend and it will be not only his first trip to Disneyland, but his birthday a couple days into the trip.

I've read that for both occasions you can go to the Town Hall on Main Street and get a pin but what I'm wondering is if this is generally considered something "for the kiddies" or something for adults too. I don't want to get a weird look when I bring him in there asking for a pin if he's going to be far out of the usual accepted age range for such a thing!

Buttons are for kids of all ages, its perfectly acceptable for adults to get buttons, i've done it several times.

I see adults with them all the time. If he'd enjoy the recognition, do it!

Take him in there with you. Tell the cast member that it is his birthday and that you heard he had a special phone call waiting for him.

They will give him a phone. Have him listen.

And, yes, birthday buttons, anniversary, first visit, and on and on are for all.

Pins can be worn by anyone and everyone! There's a "Just Engaged" pin, so unless little kids are getting engaged now, I guess it's okay for adults to wear them

I'll fully admit that I'm planning on wearing my birthday pin with pride... and I'll be turning 33 years old! (And, I won't have any kids with me at all.)

I've seen plenty of adults wearing pins (birthday, celebrating, just married, etc).

Kayleigh83.. Everyone in Disneyland is a kid. Its perfectly acceptable for him and you to wear a pin.

The various buttons are also available at the registration desk at the 3 Disney hotels.

You should definitely ask for the buttons and wear them proudly ! My DH and I wore "Just Married" ones on our honeymoon and "Happy Anniversary" ones last year , it's very fun and it's fun to celebrate with everyone around you ! Nothing is "just for kids" at Disney

We love them pins, both kids and adults. DH got an "I'm celebrating" the CM at the store across from indy gave it to him as a surprise when he heard DH talking about it being his first ride and how great it was. It was so cool. This last time we got DD4 one and they wrote 40" rides on it as it was her first time to ride those as she was finally tall enough.

Have fun!! I didn't know about the birthday phone call, that's super cool!!

Buttons are for everyone!!!

I did it a couple of years ago (well DH arranged it for me). It was really sweet. The cast members wished me a happy birthday. We were in a store buying something, and a "phone call" came through from Goofy wishing me a happy birthday. Was one of the sweetest moments ever...

We were at the MVMCP and one of the cast members gave me the Christmas popcorn bucket as a birthday present.

It's the little things that the cast members do that make is magical.

We've all worn buttons on our birthdays, and we've worn "I'm celebrating" buttons when there for each others birthdays. My BFF's DH wore a "first visit" button on his first visit and he was in his 20's, a lot of CM's asked if it really was his first visit and he said "Yes" with pride every time.

This is making me so excited! This will be his 27th birthday and his first trip and he's gonna have so many buttons! LOL I'm gonna make him wear the first trip one the whooole time! LOL But I'm sure after the treatment he'll get he won't want to take them off!

In your experience when wearing the pins, do lots of cast members and characters notice them? What sorts of things happen because of it?

Yes, they do. Wearing a birthday button will get you birthday wishes from CM's and from guests as well (my DD12 loves to say Happy Birthday to everyone she sees with a button), it may get you a free dessert some places and it may get you special recognition at shows like Billy Hill or on rides like the Jungle Cruise. Wearing a "first visit" got the aforementioned friend questions from CM's like "how do you like it?" "how do we compare to WDW?" and one CM gave all 4 of us in our group Honorary Citizen buttons to wear, he gave them to our friend to acknowledge his first visit and he gave them to the rest of us for helping spread the magic to our friend. That particular CM was also pin trading (we got our friends into it pretty early in the trip) and he was able to help our friend find a pin he needed for a set he was collecting.

The recognition you get may vary from what we got but you will get something.

Yes from CMs and fellow guests. We wore our Happy Anniversary buttons last year (and my DH had a 1st timer button too) and we got beignets at Cafe Orleans, special cupcakes at Goofy's Kitchen at dinner (along with some I'm Celebrating buttons.) The Fairy Godmother signed our autograph book, Happy 1st Anniversary, and Captain Hook asked (in his way) if we were expecting. Super fun!!

My husband will be celebrating his 36th Birthday at DLin June. I plan on getting him a birthday button. We are having his birthday dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. It is also his 1st trip along with our 2 kids. My 2nd time but I last went in 1997 so I bet alot has changed.
