Question about Fantasmic...

We're headed to WDW from 9/24 - 9/30 (free dining). Okay, so first I booked us for the fantasmic package at Mama Melrose, but read it wasn't so great, so I switched to Hollywood and Vine. That didn't get such great reviews either. I told my DH that I was going to cancel that too and just do both meals at MGM as CS, because I don't think Brown Derby is worth 2 TS credits per person. There's too many other good restaurants we want to try. However...

Now I'm wondering if we're going to have a hard time getting a decent seat at Fantasmic itself without the package. Was there anyone down there at this time last year that can tell me about the lines to the show. Did I make a huge mistake in cancelling our reservation? Thanks in advance!

That time of year isn't very crowded, so you should be ok, though I would still go a little early to make sure.

That said, we ate at Mama Melrose this past trip, and it was pretty good. Certainly I wouldn't be afraid to give it a try.

We've also eaten at Hollywood and Vine, and have no complaints about it either. Its a buffet, so its a different atmosphere. The food is more average "American" stuff, but again, I wouldn't be afraid to give it a try either.

I've eaten at Hollywood and Vine twice and liked it both times. Nice selection of stuff. The ability to do the Fantasmic package would keep me at one of the two places you mentioned.

We loved Mama's (and are total foodies). Maybe it just depends on what you get?

That said, get to the stadium early-ish and it doesn't really matter where you sit - all the seats are great and the reserved ones are nothing spectacular :)

My family loves Mama Melrose. We eat here every trip. Last Dec we ate here twice! I would try to get the reservation back if you could. If not just get to fantasmic very early. When we have not had the package we got there early. We usually got dinner or ice cream right there.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to see I should be okay as long as we get there early. I am going to talk to DH though and see about trying to get one of the reservations back now that I see people have had some good experiences. I wish I had posted this question BEFORE cancelling!

I have eaten at both Hollywood and Vine and Mama Melrose. I enjoyed the food more at Hollywood and Vine but the atmosphere was better at Mama Melrose. Take a look at the menus on allearsnet.com and decide what you would like better. The service we had at each was very good.

Another vote for Hollywood and Vine. I've eaten there the last 2 times I've been to WDW. The ONLY reason I'm not eating there again is that I'm forcing myself to try something different. If you eat there, please try the Spooned Corn Bread. It's sooooo good. OH, and try some of the mini-desserts!
