Question about Expedition Everest

I have a super tall 4 year old who is epressing an interest to ride EE. Last year he rode SM, BTMRR, Test Track, and Tower of Terror with no problems. Well, ToT he said he liked, but didn't want to ride it again. ;)

EE looks pretty intense and I'm wondering how it compares to other thrill rides at WDW. Should I let him try it if he really starts bugging to do it?

If he liked SM & BTMR, then I don't think EE will be an issue. Its kind of a combo of the 2. Some indoors in the dark, some outdoors and also some backwards in the dark. I thought it was very cool.

If he has rode Space Mountain, he should be OK on EE. It's fast but very smooth.

It is a high speed roller coaster with the usual and an Eti thrown in. It goes thru mountains and has a nice climb up with a few sudden drops. The best part is that is looks like it is going off the tracks and then it goes backwards. Honestly a lot of fun. It is over quick so even if he doesn't like it, in 2 minutes he is back. But a 4 yr. old crying for two minutes is eternity.

There is a cute download for playing a game about EE on Disney and it is like the ride. Also you get a free photo for completing the three levels.

Good luck, April

If your child has done the others, this one shouldnt be a problem. I saw many young children going on this ride when i was there in May. The only issue other than the dark is the height, if he is afraid of heights there is one area where you are going up into the mountain and you are very very high. It didnt seem to bother most, but my ds who is afraid of heights would not go on for this reason. It was really a great ride!

this does not go upside down correct?

I cna handle space mountain...so I should be able to handle this-what can I say I'm a whoose! BF loves roller coasters and will probably want to go on this b/c we saw the special on it on discover...

Thanks Guru

Oh, thanks!! This makes me feel much better about letting him go on it. He's actually a daredevil and I'm sure he won't cry about anything, but he just may not talk the rest of the day if he's traumatized. ;)

He was 43" last year, so just shy of tall enough to ride Space Mountain. This year he's 46" so tall enough to do almost everything. I think it'll be fine. :teeth:

I am looking forward to this ride myself when I leave in 20 days! I may be riding it alone [because everyone else is scared.] but heck, I am ready! :thumbsup2

My just turned 6 yo is right at 44 inches. She talked about the Yeti and EE for weeks/months prior to this trip. She plays regularly on VMK.com and knew all about it. When we go to Animal Kingdom - we got in line for this - she was looking forward to it - she even got the YETI handstamp on her hand. But in the end, she freaked and refused to ride it. Ya see- while you are waiting in line, you see "evidence" of the Yeti's existence - photos, footprints, and then you start to see ripped up items - tents, water coolers - with holes and clawmarks - all evidence of Yeti attacks - and the remnants of hikers who had climbed Mt Everest and been attacked by the Yeti/Abominable Snowman. Now I know that's not real and you know it's not real - but my child could not be convinced of that at all. (Disney is Sooooo good at making things look authentic!!) So she did not ride it. My 9 yo ended up riding it 5 times on our trip - we got the rider switch passes - so my dh went with my 9 yo and I stayed with the younger, then after they rode it - my dh stayed with my younger and I could go thru the fast pass line and I could bring up to 2 people with me (so my 9 yo got the best deal on all the thrill rides -she rode them twice in a row each time!). THen my dh took her back one afternoon to ride it again while we explored the resort.

So you never know - we tried to convince her that she would like it - and we even did kinda convince her later that day but guess what - then she didn't measure the 44 inches! I was so annoyed - she's right at 44 inches and she even had the faded YETI handstamp but they would not let her go thru. WE had been on Kali RIver Rapids and I guess since she was wet, her hair was flat (she has straight hair anyway, so I have no clue) and that made her right below the mark. ARGH. WE did try again another time - when she was dry - and wearing tennis shoes instead of Crocs - we got thru - but then she wigged out again.

WE got her on Space Mtn the first night and I think that was it for her as far as thrill rides. We also got her to go on Splash Mtn one time. After that - no more for her. LOL! I told her we weren't going back till she was willing and able to ride everything (minus any height requirements she might not meet - she's a petite flower)

Have fun!

It does not go upside down. If I had to chose between Space Mountain and EE it would be EE. It is a much smoother ride and a ton of fun. As we were walking off Space Mountain this past June we were saying how jerky the ride was and I would not rush back to wait in line for it. BTW I am an X-woosh when it comes to Disney roller coasters. :cheer2:

my 10 year old loved EE we rode it 6 times our last trip.

We both would compare it to Rock n Roller coaster. When it goes backwards it is a bit intense and the first drop is fun.

If you do ride it's great (make sure after you go up to the top look out over to the left the view is wonderful) it will be over before you know it.
