Question about Christmas gift for teacher

When I was doing my student teaching several years ago, the best gift I received from my students were
1. Gift Certificate to a local nail salon. What a great way to relax and celebrate winter vacation
2. Gift Certificate to the movie theater. With the price of going to the movies now a days, a gift certificate to help pay for the tickets helps, esp on a teacher salary.

Hope this helps.

When one of my children was in a K class, the parents were asked not to give $$$ or gift certificates over a certain amt. Apparently, she was the favorite teacher at the school. And every year previous, she received a TON of gifts, $$$, GCards, etc...that the Room Mothers collected from parents while the other teachers did not receive much more than a pkg of hot choc in a mug...So there was a limit set to regulate gifting...It eased the embarassment from the overindulged teacher also. (she may be the one who requested it)

I would only suggest to check with the principal to see if they have a policy or limit.

Happy Holidays!:cool1:

If your child rides the bus, remember the bus driver too!! Our older dd had the same bus driver from k-5, and we loved him!!

He does not ride the bus, I take him and pick him up. Hmmmm maybe that means I should be getting a gift! LOL

I agreed with you, teachers are very important! I have two sons (now in 3rd and 5th grade) and I always have been giving them gifts somewhere between $80 to $120, I got a huge bonus from my work this year, I will give them even more... Already prepared $100 starbuck GC + $50 movie GC for each. Also I will buy $5 Mcdonale GC for each child in my son's class...

I always spend between 75-100 on the teachers at Christmas time. I am also a teacher and have had numerous parents give me 100ish range gifts. This year i got an $80 visa, $100 nordtroms, $50 Peets coffee, and 5 other cards that were 20 each to starbucks for the Holidays. At the end of the year I got a flip for the room, and have also gotten a digital camera. Parents have bought many gifts for me that I could use personally, or for my room. I think it depends on the area where you live if it is the norm.
Anyway, point is, do what you feel is best, be it a mug and cocoa with a note, or a gift card. It is always appreciated, no matter what it is. Happy Holidays.

Hi,
I am a K teacher for a public school. I so appreciate parents' efforts to give thank you gifts.
I really appreciate a hand written note-- and gift cards are wonderful.
I have only received $100 when it was from the entire class and it was a gift card.
We as state employees are no longer allowed to accept gifts over $49.99.
I agree with those who have said a gift to a bookstore or school supply place is very appreciated as we buy a lot out of pocket.

I am not ungrateful for anything, but after many years of teaching I do have plenty of mugs and Christmas ornaments!

A lot of schools around here have actually banned gifts to teachers because it was getting really out of hand with parents trying to outdo one another while others who could not afford to give as much were left feeling badly. Some students could not afford to bring anything and felt really awful when they saw their friends bringing in all sorts of gifts. And let's face it, teachers are human, they talk about the gifts, they are friendlier with certain parents etc and the whole gift giving just added to the inequities. I agree with the policy and wish it was adopted in all school districts. That's not to say that many teachers don't do an amazing job, but it does not mean we have to shell out hundreds of dollars on Christmas gifts. I was reading another thread where one teacher suggested "thinking out of the box" and to not just give mugs, cocoa, coffee etc. Sorry, I have a huge family so I have plenty on my mind.....getting creative with a teacher gift ranks really low.......
