Hello Experts,
Can someone explain using Cash Nights during a weeks reservation?
I just officially went on the Wait List with Disney for BCV points. I am looking for enough points for a full week reservation, including Friday, Saturday even though they are expensive.
My Guide told me that Disney has approximately 2% of the inventory available for cash nights. Can you just ask for a Friday, Saturday night to be on cash to save points? What if I am short a few points (I would be short 3 points if we wanted to stay 8 nights), Can I ask for 1 night cash so I can book the 8 nights?
What if there are not cash nights available through DVC, can I book cash nights through CRO on the same reservation so I don't have to move?
What else should I know?
Thanks in Advance.

Call MS....and just ask if they have the cash DVC rate for your dates.
Dosen't matter what day of the week. I frequently use the cash rates for weekends...in fact I'm doing a 3 night...Thurs-Sun cash at BWV before my WLV stay. If you book through MS I'm pretty sure you won't have to change rooms.....they will link your ressies...

If you book through CRO....I don't think they can link your ressie and you will have to change rooms.

DVC owns 2-4% at each resort. This is used to replace member inventory for rehab/renovation of villas, but when not needed for that purpose, those rooms may be offered as a cash reservation.

MS first priority is to reserve nights using points, but when they recognize (either from current reservation status or past history) that some villas are unlikely to be reserved using points, they do allow them to be used for cash reservations. DVC points used by members for non-DVC reservations are also converted into cash reservations and may be reserved either thru MS or CRO.

At times, the 25% member discount is available thru MS, but CRO may also have discounted rates available too. If a cash night is reserved thru MS, they are able to link it to your point reservation so you will not need to move. If a cash night is reserved thru CRO, it's possible you will need to move - although you can request to stay in the same villa by having MS note the cash nite on the point reservation.

Friday/Saturday nights are often available for cash stays and also may be available for the member discount. Sometimes these may be reserved at 11 months, but often they will not be released until within 7 months. We have reserved cash nights (at full rack rate) thru MS and later been pleasantly surprised when the member discount was applied to the same reservation.

It's been a while since we did a cash night, but we are considering a cash stay at HHI next spring. Refresh my memory regarding mousekeeping during cash stays. Is there daily service for cash nights through MS or CRO?

If you make a cash reservation through MS, it is treated just like a stay on points and is combined with your points stays. If you reserve through CRO, you get daily housekeeping (well, you are supposed to get it). But reservations through CRO cannot be linked to MS reservations, so you might have to move. And some reservations cannot be reserved for cash - like BW view at BWV, standard view at BWV or the BCV dedicated two bedroom with two queens in the second bedroom.

This is the confusing part....I'm staying in the WLV from Sun-Thurs in Oct.
I wanted to stay at BWV from Thurs to Sun before.

MS did NOT have availablity on Thurs Oct 9 for points...but I booked it for a cash ressie for Thurs-Sun. I am on the waitlist for Oct 9th only. I don't understand why I can book for a cash ressie when I could not book for points:confused3

Because they were rooms that DVC members do not own and therefore could not be booked for points. There are rooms that are not part of the member inventory, which include rooms that DVD retained, plus rooms that were traded out by members (to go on the cruise, disneyland, etc).

While MS first priority is to reserve nights using points - once members choose to use their points for non-DVC reservations, those points are then used by MS to hold villas at DVC resorts for cash reservations in order to "pay" for the non-DVC options. In this case, it's very likely that the cash reservation you made for October 9 was actually reserved using DVC points, but is available only for cash since that "reservation" was traded for the non-DVC option.

Were you able to get the 25% discount for the cash night - or was that not (yet) available?

If I have a reservation (made through member services) that uses both cash and points, how does that effect the dining plan?
Thanks

We are staying on cash a few times this month. We arrive OKW on the 19th for one night on discounted cash. Then we stay Sun-Thurs. on points, then discounted cash for Friday and Sat. Those two cash nights are even less than the 19th becauese the season changes I guess. Then we are moving to BCV on Monday for 5 nights on points and our last night on discounted cash. All our ressies are linked and there is no moving except for when we switch resorts. We are staying in a 2 br. for both resorts. :)

If you have linked your ressies (in order to stay in the same room) then you will need to purchase the DDP for the entire length of stay, for all guests in your party.

Thanks CarolAnn. Is the only way to have fewer nights of the dining plan to check out and then check into a different room?

You will need to have two separate reservations and not have them linked. It's likely you would need to change rooms under those conditions. If they are linked, they are considered one continuous reservation. If they are not one continuous reservation, you may need to change rooms.

Last January we had a five-night stay on points and then added a two-night stay through CRO because we could get a 30% AP discount. CRO could not link those reservations -- as many above have stated. However, we then called back to MS and they could (and did) link the reservations. We did not have to check out/check in, but we did not have to change rooms.

I've also heard that you can fax the resort directly approx. 3 days prior to arrival and request that the reservations be linked yourself. You would list both numbers and request to keep the same room/villa if possible. And, last but not least...make the same request verbally during check-in.

DVC doesn't accept faxes. You need to have both reservation numbers listed on the opposite one. And have both reservations in the same name. Then when you check in, make sure you are blocked into the same room for your stay.

This is good to know because the Fl resident rates and AP can be pretty good...

Next summer we are taking family down with us and I only have enough points for 5 nights. I will have an AP, so can I book two rooms with me AP discount or only one? Also, can you get the AP discount at any of the WDW resorts or only some? Thanks for everyone's help, this is such a great place to get ?'s answered! :goodvibes

You'll only be able to get the AP discount on one room. You used to be able to get multiple rooms on one AP, but not anymore. However, if you have two APs, you can make two reservations.
