Ok, so I'm in a bit of a bind right now and I need some help. My family of 4 is taking a cruise on the wonder next month. We booked through DVC with 3 of us on points and one (my sister) on cash. She is in college and is now worried about missing a day of classes and is thinking she needs us to cancel her. We are outside 30 days right now (Cruise is Feb. 19), so what will happen if we cancel her? What will we lose at this point? If it is everything, she is going to come - she is feeling really bad right now. Does anybody have any idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks!

We didn't purchase insurance - for the first time ever....grrr....but I am not sure how that would have been handled anyhow since we would have had to purchase insurance through travel guard to cover the points and I don't know how they would have handled the one person on cash. This is just so frustrating....

Wow not sure but i think , your Sister may have to come home ...
would call dvc /dcl

Here is DCL's cancellation policy:

59 - 30 days prior to sail date - lose the deposit amount

29 - 8 days prior - lose 50% of total cost

7 days or less - lose 100%

If your sister is booked in the stateroom alone, you should only lose the $200 or $250 (depending on the cruise) deposit.

The trip insurance would not have covered this.

this might not work but just a thought - what about finding somone to take the spot and just swapping people...

Thank you all for your responses and help. I am happy to report that my sister is coming after all. It was a little stressful at the end of this week dealing with DVC and what would be lost if she did cancel. Just to let everybody know what I learned from this experience. If you do cxl outside 30 days, you forfeit your deposit for that person, which is $250, regardless of the fact that for 3/4 day wonder cruises the deposit is normally $200 (I argued this point and got NOWHERE), plus they charge you a change fee of $75. If I had booked her on points it would have been a loss of 32 points. Now her fare was only about $450 (because she was the 4th person in the cabin), so it would have been almost a total loss. She made her decision at 4:45 on friday after I called DVC to find out what the 30th day out actually was in case I did need to cancel. Well, normally it would have been Monday, the 19th, but because DVC is closed on monday and isn't open on weekends, I had to let them know by 5pm Friday.

My sister was able to rearrange a few things with one of her classes, so she will meet us in Florida the night before the cruise. The lesson I have learned from all of this is that I think next time I will rent the points out and book through DCL...at least if I needed to change something I wouldn't have to pay $75 to do it.
Thanks again!!!!:D

I am happy it worked out. My daughter in college was able to work with her professors one year (well, I think I emailed them with our pleas) at finals time. They were very willing to work with her and let her take them at a different time. It never hurts to ask.

Have a great time!::MinnieMo
