We're thinking of getting bunk beds for our kids. For DD we want to get a twin over full or a twin over futon--( saw one on craigslist ) It's a metal bunk. Anybody have bunks, or know if they hold up well? My DD is 15 and we would like one for sleepovers. We might get one for DS also, but his would be a twin. Thanks, Candy :goodvibes

we have solid wood bunk beds and they are fine we have DD15 on the bottom and DD9 on top. they been in them 5-6 years now and no issues other then a slat breaking. We had another one before that for a few years and that was fine also it was wood. friend had the metal ones and they dont seem to,hold up with the weight of the bigger kids. the slat parts bend plus when they climb into they make that squeeking noise that would drive my OCD into over drive so no thanks. if you can get a good price on the one your thinking of and if the metal seems pretty sturdy ( shake it while it is assembled) then I would say go for it.. otherwise walk away . some are cheap junkie ones and you dont want that.

We have tried 2 sets of metal bunks and both were garbage even the not cheap set.........they moved when ever the kids rolled over and made noise and all in all were just a pain and after a year they were out of our house............went with a twin with a trudle for my daughter and a double for my son, both wood and no complaints..........

Try to get some quality used wooden bunk beds. My DSis still has, and uses, the set of maple bunk beds that we slept in as kids! Her oldest child is applying to college this year.

Agree with the option of a trundle bed. Takes up much less visual space in the room. I would only suggest bunk beds if two kids were sleeping nightly in the same room. If just looking for occasional sleep space for sleep overs and guests then a trundle is the way to go.

we have metal bunks. kids love them. PITA to make daily... but....the bunks were bought at walmart and they are GREAT. held up so well, they look great and we're v happy.

We have a wooden twin over futon set. The futon would be cool for a teen - we love to sit on it and chat or watch movies (we have it at my mom's beach house).

We have a metal twin over futon for my DD(7) and she loves it. It is very solid! We bought it from a children's furniture store but we have seen it on the Internet. We paid $399 for the frame only (mattress extra).

While my DD is only 7 we wanted something that could grow with her. Her friends all love it including her high school babysitters!

If I can figure out how to post a picture I will.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. We decided to go with the metal twin over futon for my DD. We looked at it last night and it was in great shape, it included the twin mattress and futon for a $175.00 :thumbsup2 Thanks again! :yay:

I had this bed when I was 15 and I loved it! My only complaint was that it would squeak when I climbed up it which was no big deal.

We had a metal futon bunk bed set (double bed on the bottom) for our dss when they were young. The futon mattress on the bottom was awful and as a PP mentioned they creaked. It wasn't a cheap set, either. We took it down when we built a new bedroom for older dd. My dmom had a trundle bed and it was great when the kids slept at her house. You can pull it out when you need it, yet saves space when it's not in use.
