Question about AP

We are arriving at OKW Sat. 8/3. I have been reading and learning a lot from all you experts so I am hoping the next trip we make I will be able to surprise my husband with a super inexpensive trip

Ok, so help me understand how all this works....

first, we are paying cash, we did get a DC discount this time and also got Ultimate Hopper Passes with our resort magic pkg. since we like to be able to go to the water parks, DD and back and forth to any of the major parks whenever we want. Ok - the way I understand this AP thing, only one person has to have an AP to be able to get the great discounts. I am guessing that because we visit all the parks, it would benefit us to buy the PAP, am I right? At least for that one person? And then I would buy 3 Ultimate Park Hoppers for the other 3 people? I would get a certificate showing I was an AP holder and then what, when I get there I have to go to one of the parks and get a picture taken and I am handed my actual AP? Now that is the part I really don't care for - my whole savings is dependent on my getting to the park as soon as I get there and getting this picture taken and getting my pass. What if something goes wrong? I have visions of $1000 being added to my bill as I stand there because I didn't get the pass! And what if I don't want to go right to MK and get this pass the first night? Then I have no ticket to go anywhere, right?

Someone explain this in terms a 2 yr. old can understand please !

You are talking about a future trip, right? You don't want to change the trip on Aug 3? It's probably too late for that.

The discounts with AP's are room only, but you could buy the UPH's separate at check-in.

There are no pictures with AP's. They use a finger scan system which is setup the first time you use it. You just go to any ticket window at a park or Downtown Disney and buy the AP. They also sell them at the Orlando Airport if you are flying in.
