Speaking of internet.... do you still use a desktop computer?

I have 2 Intel NUC mini-computers that I guess are desktops. One is for running a Plex server and the other is the "family homework computer".

Otherwise, I have a personal laptop and a work-provided laptop. I use them with an external wireless mouse and keyboard and separate monitor, and an angled stand to boost up the laptop and give it some extra ventilation from below.

We don't currently have any traditional desktop "towers", although if I were doing more strenuous work like rendering 3D models and other stuff, I would probably build one since you get more bang for your buck with high-end parts at better prices.

My "home" PC is a desktop. It's one I got from my old employer and fairly beefy, but can't be upgraded to Win11. I prefer a desktop because I like the keyboards better. Starting to look at replacement desktops because of the Win11 issue. I use it for Photoshop and Video Editing, but those are going to slow down even more with DS finishing his sports career.

We do have two laptops I've updated to Win11. I should check the specs on those and see if they'll run the software I want. Getting a dock for either of those would probably be cheaper than a new desktop replacement.

I have a laptop, but dock it to two monitors and use wireless keyboard/mouse -- it really functions as a desktop. I work from home, and often have a lot of different windows open.

Desktop PC's used to be a lot cheaper than laptops so that is the main reason I had one as my home PC. I also want a real/full-size keyboard and usable mouse. Prices for laptops have come down over the years (and now come in various monitor sizes) and if you need it to also be portable to take when not at home, you can attach a full-size monitor for home use. I no longer consider it an either/or type of decision. Laptops are clearly portable, while a desktop PC really is not.

Yes, a docked laptop is the best of both worlds unless you are a gamer who needs something that can be overclocked and that generates a LOT of heat.

I have dock setups at home and at the office, and I never use my laptop in either place without the dock. The only time it really functions as a true laptop are when I'm in an offsite meeting or traveling, and even then I dock on a real mouse.

Dongles are your friends. To know them is to love them.
