Just wondering if anyone knows: If I book an online reservation with Alamo and add my husband to the reservation and do online check-in-
1: Do we both have to get the car
2: Do we bypass the counter and go to Kiosk or directly to car?

Thanks in advance...... Tried to call but after 5 min in the phone system they dropped me...

If you do online check in you will print your rental doc's at home and go straight to the Alamo car lot. You will both need to show your drivers license at the exit booth.

BTW if you belong to BJ's, Sams Club or Costco be sure to use one of their discount codes because the additional driver is free. Come to think about it you may want to do your reservation at the counter because online check in and kiosk check in will more than likely charge you $10 a day for the additional drive even though you are using a discount code that allows for a free additional driver. Unless things have changed and they have fixed this issue better off going to the counter.

All listed drivers need to show licesne at rental location.

Alamo is glitchy adding free driver ahead of time online, it always seems to charge the daily fee.

If you have a code that gives a free added driver, kiosk will work, and will honor the code. You scan your licenses.

If you join Alamo Insiders, husband would be free...but still use the kiosk (or desk) to sign in. Online is still glitchy.

I am in Insider. So it sounds like I should not do online checking but go directly to kiosk to sign in when we get there and both scan our drivers license at the kiosk. We are also using magical express so I guess after we get car, my husband or I will go with kids to the bus while the other drives to Disney.
Thanks for the info..

Just to clarify, if we are Insiders members using a BJ's coupon, will my husband have to be at the rental location to show his drivers license to be an additional driver? He was planning on taking ME to avoid the hassle of getting our bags at MCO.

ha we must have been typing our question at the same time. We are planning on doing the same.

Yes he will need to be present and show his license. Sorry. Even when using the kiosk he will need to be in the car with you when you leave because you both will need to show ID to the attendant at the exit booth.

Thanks! Glad I came across this post as we would have never known about this. :thumbsup2

So then, we can get the car and go through the booth and then drop off my husband and kids to get on the magical express ?

Do you think that will work?.

just came across this in the post titled Extra driver delimma with Alamo?!

An answer to the real question . . .

Per a chat with an Alamo representative:

"You will not need to add your husband to the rental reservation as an additional driver. He will be considered an automatic authorized additional drivers and therefore will not be required to sign onto the rental agreement. There will not be an additional fee applied for him to drive the rental."

Hope this helps!!! Enjoy your trip!! :cool1:

You can really use the kiosk when you have an additional driver for free? I always book through Costco to get discounts and the additional driver fee waived for my husband, but it seems like every time we try the kiosk, it wants to charge us for him! Then we have to go to the counter and get harassed about adding insurance, which I can't stand! :rotfl:

Can you not use the kiosk if you have a coupon added? Maybe that's the problem...

hmm...I don't know. I know you can't do online checkin with a coupon. I just searched alamo's site and the kiosk mentions nothing about not being able to use it if you have a coupon, but you must do the save time option prior to arrival. I also came across this... https://www.alamo.com/itemDetails.do?HelpItemID=ADD Looks like the additional driver must be present, unless Alamo makes an exception for spouses and SO's? I don't know if I would take the word of just some call center rep over the phone though.

also join Alamo insiders (free) and your spouse is an additional driver free...just as another level of protection to get that free 2nd driver. As far as the up sell on insurance, I may just take a copy of my auto policy showing I have plenty of coverage...even on rental cars. :thumbsup2

I used it when I had coupon code (costco or some such) and had Dh on ressie without extra charge but this was before they changed renter program to insiders.

I'll have to try it again, it just seems like I go through the whole process and at the end, it still wants to charge me for an additional driver! :confused3 I did join Alamo insiders also, just in case!

I really have to find out if my auto insurance covers rental cars...I know my credit card does, but I don't know if that's enough. I always feel like I'm getting in trouble when I don't want the insurance, once I bought it just to shut them up, but last year, I said no and they made it seem like I was committing some crime! That's why I'd rather use the kiosk!

They try their hardest to get you to buy the insurance because they get a commision for everyone the sell. DH use to do the computer programming at Alamo so that is how we found this out.
So if they pressure you just stand your ground and say no.

As far as the kiosk. If you have an ecoupon (AKA not a paper coupon) you can use the kiosk. If you have a paper coupon you will need to go to the counter in order to turn the coupon in and complete your reservation.

We always carry a copy of our insurance card when we travel. That way if we are in an accident we have proof of insurance and the contact info to the insurance company. Here in Ohio you have to show proof of insurance if you are stopped by a cop or in an accident.
