Question about Airport Security??

I broke my ankle a year ago which left me with a plate and some screws in my ankle. As I have another surgery looming at the end of Jan to fix a non healing fracture and torn tendon I am also in an air boot. I can not walk without it.

With that being said, I am so worried about the airport security, I asked my doctor for a letter, but he said since Sept 11 security does not accept those letters.

What has anyones experience been, if you have this same problem? Will they try to make me remove the boot?

Your doctor is right. TSA doesn't accept letters. Depending on the airport they will use either a hand wand or send you through the full-body scan.

You shouldn't have any problems. They will just hand wand you and your boot and run a trace for explosives on it. Or as jdb said you might end up with the full body scan. I too have screws in my feet and they have never been a problem. I do alert the TSA agents to the fact that they are there though. Anything to make everything go smoother is my motto.

To make your life easier, definitely tell them first before/as you go through the metal scanner. Also, I know the TSA now has a pdf form on their website you can use to make a card to tell them exactly what your medical condition is.
