No one can ever accuse me of writing ambiguous titles :tilt:

I've started thinking about a cruise next year and mentioned it to my adult son. He may or may not join me. I think I just discovered that the queen beds don't separate. I was thinking of a cheapie trip this year to offset the cost of Japan last year and that meant an inside stateroom. Will either of us be comfortable on one of the faux beds? If not, recommendations for a different cabin, or doesn't it make any difference.

Thanks.

Yep. What IrishEye and Lilsia said. I've slept on the couch bed and it's quite comfy! Book and enjoy! No worries!

I don't know specifically, but, I have never seen a cruise when they didn't split. They need to be versatile. Why not ask the cruise line?

Me two!!! I love the convertible sofa bed. Its not like your regular sofa bed it has a real mattress.

None of the four ships have beds that split anymore. The Queen beds do not. You may have some other options in Concierge cabins but regular cabins have the Queen bed, the sofa bed and some have the top bunk and some others have the murphy bed (those cabins sleep five). They changed all the beds in the cabins in recent years.....the queen beds are higher (to fit luggage underneath) and are quite comfortable.

OK, I'll take your word for it... my last cruise, two years ago, were split-able.

One of my kids, DD19, did not find the top bunk comfortable—I’m not sure if it’s the same mattress as the couch—however, we did ask for, and received, a mattress topper and that cured the problem.

None of the DCL beds split into twins. They're real queens. I have sailed on all four ships within the past 2 and 1/2 years, and speak from experience.

Disney doesn't have split beds anymore. Royal’s ships are going that way too.

Not to make your cruise planning more difficult, but thank goodness they don’t split! Much more comfortable as a “real” queen bed.

But it’s not useful when you have situations where more separate sleeping surfaces are needed.

I think it’s too bad they are going this route.

Been on the Magic twice with my mother. First time we took turns on the fold down sofa bed but second time I decided I found the fold down bed more comfortable as it was a bit firmer so I just slept there. Might not be great if your son is exceptionally tall but otherwise it’s fine.

Adult (or so she thinks) daughter says sofa bed is very comfortable. However, she is only 5'2" and weighs 110 at best.

By the way, I like titles that are not ambiguous, saves time opening or not opening threads when you know what the person is asking. :-)

I’m 5’9” and definitely more than 110 lbs. 8-) When I sail with my friends I prefer to have the sofa bed. It’s very comfortable & having the small bed with the edges close is a bit of a novelty for me. (vs sharing the king bed at home with hubby on one side & little schnauzer on the other) I sleep so good!

Our son was 17 the last time we sailed on Disney - so almost an adult. He has always loved the sofa bed, and slept just fine. I think your son will be fine there. I remember once the bed was still out and I laid down there myself after breakfast and almost fell back asleep. It was really super comfortable!

Don't think of the typical hotel sofa (torture) bed. Disney's are really nice.

Thank you to all who took the time to respond and especially for so many encouraging posts about the comfort of the faux beds. I can sleep just about anywhere -- takes me forever to fall asleep, but then I'm good for the night. I'm planning a solo trip so want to go on the cheap, but plan to put my son's name on the reservation since it's not much more for the second person. He works freelance, so if he comes he comes, if not, I'll sleep wherever i want!

The Disney/creative side of me wants to write a catchy title, the masters degree in technical writing side of me wants it to be clear and concise :thumbsup2

Usually my DH Aand I cruise, so it’s OK. I am sorry that there cannot be two real beds. I would like to travel with a girl friend. Many couches are not comfortable to sit on, I cannot imagine sleeping on one.
