Tuesday on the second week and time for a water park we decided. Only me, Scott and Roger had bothered adding the plus pack onto our tickets so we agreed to meet up with Linda and Graham later in the only Disney park I hadnt yet visited, Animal Kingdom. The lads didnt care which water park we visited so I opted for Typhoon Lagoon as I preferred the look of it. We arrived quite early and headed straight down to the wave pool. Scott doesnt swim and I barely do so we hung around the shallow end while Roger scooted off to the deepest parts, so distant from us that only his head was visible bobbing up and down in the waves. I left Scott for a bit and headed into slightly deeper water (about 4.5ft) and messed about jumping into waves and being carried along. At one point I looked over and one of the enormous waves heading my way. This wasnt good, I cant swim well and was in far too deep to get out before it would hit me, plus I totally panic if I get knocked under water. I was up to my waist in water when it hit me. Luckily due some quick recollections of physics lessons I managed to time a jump in perfect synchronicity with the wave hitting my back. It carried me forward about 10ft in one jump. I highly recommend you try this as its brilliant fun! Roger came back and told us that the huge waves are not nearly as fun right at the deep end, you need to be about halfway down the pool to really experience the full force.
We decided to take a stroll around the park and the boys took in several water slides. I cant understand how Scott can refuse to go into an almost perfectly still swimming pool because he doesnt like water but he has no trouble going down Humunga Kowabunga and several other rides. I stayed at the bottom laughing at the pair of them and taking pictures. We had a look at the Shark Reef and went into the sub to get a closer view but none of us went into the water. Instead we headed to Castaway Creek. Unfortunately I didnt like this as once in the tube I couldnt get out as I was too scared of going under. When the boys drifted off down a separate bit I absolutely freaked out. Luckily theyd stopped at a get in/get out port a few minutes ahead but I was totally freaked out by now and glad the time had come for us to leave. After changing into dry clothes we did a quick tour of the park with cameras in tow before driving over to Animal Kingdom.
We met Linda and Graham outside Dinosaur and were disappointed to find out it was closed due to a technical fault. We headed first to Restaurantosaurus for dinner before heading to the Tree of Life for Its Tough to be a Bug. I really enjoyed this although I did figure out that something would poke me in the back (holes in the seat are somewhat suspicious) and got Scott to tell me what it was. I decided to sit that little bit forward! The moving seats at the end were ace and I was impressed at Scotts handling of the spiders (he is deathly afraid of the real thing.) We headed back to Dinoland afterwards where it became clear that Dinosaur would be closed for the rest of the day. Instead we did Primeval Whirl whoever came up with the idea of a roller coaster combined with a waltzer is either a lunatic or a genius!
A stroll through the park found us in Africa watching the parade for a few minutes before we got bored and winded our way through the crowds to Kilimanjaro Safaris. The others dont normally bother with this but I wanted to try it so we headed on board. It was brilliant. We saw nearly every species they have in the savannah, most of them very close up. The others said theyd never seen so many animals in all their previous rides put together! We had time for a few more attractions before the parks closed so we headed to the Pangani Forest Trails and Maharajah Jungle Trek where we got up close with bats, gorillas, tigers and meerkats. By now the park was closing so we headed over to the cars and drove to Magic Kingdom to while away the evening.
We spent the evening doing our favourite rides, Scott, Roger and I did Barnstormer 3 times in a row along with Big Thunder and Buzz Lightyear. I wanted to see Spectromagic again so we watched the parade before meeting up with Linda and Graham. The gang wanted to do Splash Mountain so I made use of the time to do some browsing in Liberty Square, I found a place selling jelly beans and vowed to stock up before we left. We hung around for Wishes before heading home via Golden Corral.
