I believe today was her children's first actual day of school this term. (Other was a welcome session.)

We often know when death is imminent. She may or may not be conscious. We don't know. It should definitely be the parents choice whether or not smal children are there.

I watched a documentary about The Queen last night. What a strong and beautiful woman.

CNN just showed a picture - Prince William driving into Balmoral with Prince Andrew in the passenger seat and Prince Edward and Sophie in the back seats. They commented about how rare it would be for them all to be in the same car together shows the seriousness of the situation. This whole situation just feel surreal.

No matter where one stands in regards to the Royal family, this is a family who may be about to lose their much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. They deserve as much privacy and respect as any other family dealing with such an event. My heart goes out to all of them right now.

I think it’s because it is so unusual for the Palace to offer any information about the Queen’s health or to make any announcements about her health. We are not her biological family, but many consider her the matriarch of the country. I suppose rushing to Balmoral or Buckingham Palace is similar to rushing to a hospital when you hear that an elderly relative is poorly. It isn’t something that I personally would do, but I understand the sentiment. I think if we receive sad news over the coming days, the outpouring of grief will be enormous, and will be worldwide.

It is not bizarre it is about collective mourning or sorrow. When something big like this happens and for the UK people this is big, you need to go somewhere with your emotions, even if nothing officially has happened yet.

The Queen is not the first royal or celebrity where this happens. It usually happens after a royal family member passes, but crowds at a palace or a hospital in cases like this.

She is the mother of a nation.

I've been listening to the coverage all morning, in between my student appointments. She's been the monarch my entire life, and cannot imagine a UK without her. While she's more of a figurehead, she has been active and involved since she was young, and I admire that.

Sadly, things are not looking good I too have noticed the news anchors have changed clothes on BBC.

Agreed. They have a beautiful relationship. Three posts on page 1 of this thread commented that H&M were there, or going, and then there were posts about “why Catherine was staying home”, etc. (Not going to quote people.) I was just adding another perspective. None of us really know who’s there and who isn’t, other than who’s jetted in, etc. We do know that H&M happen to be in England for other planned events. Harry has remained somewhat close to the Queen, but not so much to the rest of his family. I do wish all of them well; Queen Elizabeth is a living legend and I’m sorry this is happening to them. (BBC just said that “Harry is on his way, but not his wife”.)

Upon hearing this news, I was oddly most touched by a photo of former President Reagan riding a horse at Balmoral alongside Her Majesty. As public as much of their roles as national leaders must be, I find such moments lovely.

She's always appeared so gracious and seemed to have a knack for putting people at their ease when with her.

I think it fitting that she is at Balmoral, one of the few places she and her family could enjoy the outdoors and some private times together.

May she rest comfortably, surrounded by love.

I responded to a post, agreeing that it should be private. Do we really need to see who is in whose car driving up? I'm in the US not the UK. You can have all the queen death watch coverage you want. My US channels do not need to be on constant queen coverage, showing the gates like someone is going to run out to announce the news there. We will get the news when it happens. And then weeks worth of tributes, funerals, etc. They have all the stories from the jubilee already to go again.

That is what you get with important world news. We in Europe get weeks of coverage about the US elections.

Imagine if the assassination of JFK had happened now. In the 60s it was already the biggest thing with days of mourning in countries nothing to do with the US.

The queen has been a major influence on the world during her reign and that is why you see it on your news constantly.

Even with dozen of Kings and Queens in the world. To the US, there is only one THE Queen. Regardless of revolutions.

I assume operation London bridge even for the family has everything specifically spelled out who is allowed to come when and where. I’m just assuming here but I would think the Royal family is even more reserved than the typical British family versus the typical American family where often when there’s a death EVERyONE comes by. I can see for example a Lord Snowden being given access to the Queen in her final moments before Meghan or even Catherine.

Someone on Twitter said the royal standard is no longer flying above Balmoral which means the queen is "no longer in residence"
