@Judique, a swimming friend owns a home on Kiawah, and my DSis is considering going there after our May trip to HHI! We had never heard of it before Suzie talked about it. What’s it like?

Well, I may have a stomach virus, because I’m still not doing that well. It’s a good thing we didn’t get to the ship yesterday, I’m happy to be home, resting.

Beach, golf and birds for me. I haven't been on Kiawah in many years. My kids uncle owns a vacation home nearby. It doesn't appear to be too commercialized yet but has some beautiful homes. I've always liked Coastal South Carolina. There are a few resorts in the area but I haven't done any research. It will be too early for swimming but I enjoy being on a beach no matter the temperature.

Bobbiwoz Hope you feel better and get some good rest and recovery. Bonnie must be happy to have to with her. How is she doing?

Good morning. It is 22 now with temps heading to the upper 20s. Thankfully the wind is done. It was really gusting out there yesterday. Not a day to be outside. It sounds like some really good travel plans for everyone. Today I am heading to Kenny's this afternoon to celebrate Ethan's birthday and have some Chinese food for supper. Then back here where I will be asleep before midnight. My boss talked with the big boss about having me work Thurs and Fri as I am hourly. He forgets that sometimes as everyone else is salaried. I should be too based on what I do but he expects so much time from the salaried people that I am fine with being hourly. He scaled it back for me and said if I could do what amounts to about 3 hours of work tomorrow to get done what is needed for everyone to have for their work then that is all he wants me to do. I will get the time back as well as paid for it. So I am good with that. I basically have most of my holiday time for me. I can use it to wash my carpets and get some other stuff done, plus a nice lunch with my MA friend.

Have a good New Year's Eve!

Happy birthday to Ethan!

I may have to take DS to drop off his car for an oil change today, but other than that, just house stuff to get done. And I need to text/check on a friend.

Good morning and welcome to the last day of 2025. The winds are finally gone, but it's still cold. 22 now going to 34.
@easyas123 Your hubby may be arriving just in time for the storm that's supposed to hit that way later today into tomorrow! We've got some snow flurries, but it's not going to even stick, thankfully.

As to travel plans for next year, Maui will be our first one, haven't pinned down the second, trying to think of someplace different that we both want to go.

Walmart wasn't even that busy yesterday morning, got everything I needed without having to go to Aldi's or Martins. Did go to Bath and Body to bring back 2 defective Wallflower plugs, they both were leaking sticky brown stuff. They say it's a known problem but don't know what causes it. It's only on the ones you can adjust the amount of scent on. They could only find one in their computer and said it was $19.99, so they just gave that price to the other one. Told me I could go pick out 2 that were the that price and we'd do an even exchange. I also had a free $18.95 item coupon, so I walked out with a bag, a receipt, and no cost to me.

Summer's bad luck in 2025 continued. She texted me at 11 last night that she hit not 1, but 2 deer. She didn't even stop to see if there was any damage until she got home. She was very lucky, as all that happened is there's a few scratches on the front of the car. She's only had it a month and already gets into trouble. She shouldn't have been out that late driving anyhow, too many deer on the road in WV.

I was so tired by dinnertime that I could barely keep my eyes open. I can't remember the last time I was up for 2 days and 1 night with no sleep. I dozed for about 20 min around 8, but didn't want to go to bed or I would wake up at 3 am. I went at 11, and slept until 7, so that should hold me for the day.

Taking down the rest of the decorations except the tree, that will come down tomorrow, the outside lights may wait until Friday when the temp hits 40 as tomorrow will be a high of 25.

Hope you feel better @bobbiwoz

Happy 2026 Quacker Family! Its 18 degrees outside, going to 25. Had about 1/2" of snow overnight, and the plows have been on the street since midnight. No idea why, as the road is clear by now. They just went by again.

It was a very quiet New Year's Eve. I was so tired I was in bed by 11:30 after watching Wicked for Good again. I usually stay awake until 2 when my friend in CO hits midnight, but I couldn't make it.

No winds right now, so I started the car up to let it run for 15 minutes. I took the outside lights down and was back inside before the timer even went off, lol. Pork and sauerkraut for dinner tonight I think, or maybe crabcakes tonight and pork tomorrow, haven't decided yet.

I wish all of you a healthy, happy, and safe year ahead.1767273285364.png

Happy New Year! It is snowy here with 1-2 inches of new snow on the ground. It is still a bit windy and cold. I will go out later probably to Wegman's and walk around there while I get my fresh produce for the next few days. Ethan got a smart watch for his birthday and he was texting me all afternoon yesterday. He can only text and make calls, no internet. I am waiting to see if he texts today. I was over Kenny's last night where I walked the dog with them and had dinner. Then back to the condo and to bed by 9:30.

Have a nice Holiday!

Happy New Year ALL!

Starting the new year off with a splash - have many loads of laundry to get done.

Yesterday brought some sadness. My former father in law passed away at his nursing home. I really didn't have access to visit him in the last few years as my adult kids did not feel much of a connection and even though I urged them to make an effort, it wasn't much. He was 99.94 years old (calculated by son) or 22 days from his January birthday and the 100 year milestone. Was in a wheelchair at the end and had been very healthy and active throughout his long life.

Ex husband would visit him on his occasional trips to this area from Colorado. Local family - his sons - 2 left in the area - took care of details. 2 of his children had passed with 5 remaining, 3 sons and 2 daughters. I don't think any of them ever forgave him for 'the divorce'. Anyway, he had good in him and remained a participant in his church all his life, that I know off. He was a successful professional during his long career and also in addition taught at a local and well known University until they closed out that course of study.

He definitely made some effort to keep up with my kids when he was young enough to get around. I have a couple of pictures from when he was active enough to visit with my DGD, his 1st great granddaughter - she's 10 yesterday and he passed on her Bday. I hope no one connected that for her.

Today I am sorting through Xmas decor. It's in the basement so combines well with doing laundry. I've been looking for some pieces I couldn't easily find and didn't search hard by moving bins. So hoping to find them today. Then I must unload some Xmas trees!

Could store in the overstuffed shed - it's fairly large but with no climate control they might be useless next year. And slightly afraid the thrift store would just dump them. Three of four are in original boxes and undamaged. There I go justifying hoarding!

Interrupted this post to go switch load to dryer and hours later I've returned. Had started moving stuff and went down Memory Lane.

Just caught up reading. Sorry to hear you had to cancel your cruise @bobbiwoz but it sounds like it was the right thing. If you had to get medical help on the ship they’d confine you to your room! Love the pic of Bonnie, I have a similar one of Toto! It’s so cold for them. Toto was out for a little bit yesterday and came in and was shivering, so I put his bday sweater on him. He’s doing better, still limping and seems tired, though he’s raring to go if anything’s going on, lol.

Hope you’re feeling ok now @easyas123 knock on wood but I’m surprised we’re not sick. (More later re trips to ER.) Nice travel plans for everyone!

@lynxstch Sorry to hear of your power outage and of course Summer’s ongoing car issues. If she didn’t have bad luck she’d have no luck at all. Ugh. Glad she wasn’t hurt, anyway.

Well it’s been a whirlwind here and I’ve been out of the loop. Didn’t even get notifications for here as I hadn’t read for a while. Had to take DH to the ER twice in the middle of the night this past weekend Sunday into Monday, and then again Monday into Tuesday. Long hours there, no sleep, you know how it goes - we’re all wiped out. Had to do the same two weeks ago too. Heart racing. Had a procedure for it Monday, but afterward he couldn’t move his arm. A weird thing that can happen but rare, I’d never even seen it before over 40 years of taking care of people having this procedure. He’s walking around like the one armed man from the Fugitive! (We had a little fun on the family text with that one!) Getting better, but slowly. No more racing heart beat which is good. He’s off now for a couple of weeks from work and then he’ll go back part time, this being his retirement gig. Glad he can just rest right now. This has generated a lot of extra appointments for him but hopefully it all remains just a small bump in the road.

Pea- how ya feeling? I hope the current protocol you are on is agreeing with you.
Thanks for asking, easy! I don’t start it until mid January as my oncologist wants my lungs to be really healed after radiation as this new med can cause lung problems, so mid January it is. I’ve been in prep for it though. Yesterday I had to meet the pharmacist I’ll be working with who’ll be managing the medication for me. It was an hour long video appt and I have a full page of notes on my legal pad! Then she sent me more information online to review. Talk about intimidating! We mainly went over what it’s for, how it works, what I have to do, and what side effects can occur and how to manage them. Praying for the lesser side effects but one major one is diarrhea. It makes it a little difficult as anywhere you go there needs to be a toilet nearby! It’s not infectious, just inconvenient. And uncomfortable. I mean, who wants to sit on a strange and potentially dirty toilet at length wherever you go? (And who wants me on their toilet with that? Lol.) But if that’s the only side effect, I’ll be lucky. Nausea and fatigue other ones, and possibly alopecia (which I pray not - I think losing my hair twice already is enough for one lifetime; it’s coming in so beautifully right now). But the more worrisome ones for me are the potential for lung inflammation, blood clot, elevation of liver enzymes and stuff like that. This is what’s been recommended for me based on my particular case of cancer which has a high risk of recurrence. I don’t have to take it but I’d be crazy not to with the good results it’s having on improved recurrence rates and survival. I just have to balance that with how I feel day to day. Praying for good results. They’ll start me off slowly and increase the dose, checking my bloodwork every two weeks, etc.

Love hearing about your trips! DD and I booked a little winter getaway in the middle of the night one night recently. It was a nice ‘therapeutic diversion’. Found a club level room at a discount which will be sweet. (I hope we actually get to go with all that’s going on, but we’ll play it by ear.) Trip will be resort heavy/R&R which makes it worth it for us. DD booked us into the Beak and Barrel, she wants to try it. We might book a restaurant or two but honestly, in Sept the meals we had just weren’t good so we’ll be more careful about where we go. Easy we’ve had a nice meal at the Edison before, I like that place. In Sept DD was disappointed there was one place at DS she really wanted to try, their “Halloween food” looked really cool. (Can’t think of the name of it right now but will post later if I can figure it out.) Maybe I’ll get the $24 banana split again at Ghirardelli’s if I make it over to DS, haha. (They like DS more than I do.)

In Sept we stayed one night in a Theme Park View tower room at the Contemporary - as a bday treat - then we moved over to a one bedroom at OKW. We’ve noticed the past few times we’ve been over around the MK resorts, they’ve just gotten crazy with people crawling everywhere! Like, to the point you can barely move. (CR and Poly especially.) Plus the monorails are always down. We had gone over to the Poly for dinner in Sept and wanted to get back in time for fireworks from our room, as DS and his crew were meeting us there, etc. Well the monorail was down and the line for the boats was super long. After a tense wait we had to boat it over to MK on a standing room only boat. Thankfully by that time the monorail was back up so we took it over to the CR and up to our room, just in time. But it was hairy. We went back over again for something and it happened again, monorail down. Line for Tambu Lounge was also back to the stairs - I guess everyone’s onto that idea now that they can get a sample of O’Hana food at the bar. Things felt much more relaxed once we got over to OKW. We love it there. We’ve found we’re tending to prefer the resorts that don’t have monorail or skyliner access as they’re just more relaxed. DS and them were at POR for two nights before joining us at OKW and it was really relaxed and beautiful there, too, felt to me more like how Disney used to be. We even jaunted over to POFQ for biegnets and it was nice there, too. We’re just wanting to be around hordes of people less and less. We will also think about heading to Nashville this summer as our niece and family friends are there, and DS wants to go to Dollywood, lol. We also have two ‘destination weddings’ in NH this summer, a nephew and a family friend.

I hope everyone has a nice day today and weekend coming up. Good timing on the holidays this year. 🐥🍾

PS We rang in the new year quietly at home watching Bridgerton. Been wanting to watch that for a while, I love the English type shows like that. DH got into it too, he’s used to watching those w me even though he came in at the end of Season 1, I explained it to him. He dozed off a bit anyway, lol.

Happy New Year. May this year be better than the last.

I had a party last night with the grandkids, or I should say daughter and granddaughters. Crystal and Ella wanted to have a party like we did last year and Crystal invited some friends. It was very nice but a bit odd at times. They all sat at the dining room table on phones. Ella decided I needed a Disney theme on my I-Pad. She started and then asked me when the last time was that I did a system update. I never do them as I use it to read. Of course we HAD to update it. Then I couldn't get on the internet. Finally managed to find the password that would work and still couldn't get on. Reset the I-pad with no luck. Reset my modem with no luck. Reset the I-Pad again and success. She no longer wanted to add a Disney theme. By that time she was falling asleep and so was I. There was no way I was going to last to midnight so I wished everyone a happy new year and was sound asleep. I came down to a clean house. They cleaned everything up and the dishes were all done and put away.

Today just does not feel like New Year's Day to me. I always went to South Philly to visit relatives and the Mummer's Parade. My aunt stopped the open house about 15 years ago, so we got together at my parents' house. My brother convinced my mom that with dad just getting out of the hospital and the flu going around she shouldn't have anything. I am stuck watching a lousy broadcast of the Mummer's Parade and football.

We had an ice/sleet storm last saturday so I went into to visit dad and try and talk to the doctor. Dad was doing great and would be home by that Monday they just needed speech to approve it. I told the doctor dad was NOT getting a feeding tube ever again and he was coming home. Thankfully they approved it and dad came home. I was really upset when I saw him though. Someone took it upon themselves to shave his beard off. Dad had that beard for over 50 years, I wanted to make some noise but mom said to let it go, it will grow back.

Mom saw the orthopedist on Tuesday and her wrist was worse than she thought. She had 3 fractures. No surgery and she was able to get just a wrap around splint. They expect a full recovery in 6-7 weeks.

So my 2025 ended on a mostly good note. Now I am getting ready for my trip to Disney World in March. I'll be there for the start of the Flower and Garden Festival which I really enjoy. Then I have the BIG trip in September when we take LJ for his first trip. Not happy we are staying at All Star Movies as I have grown to love Pop, but I understand why Jay wants it.

Off to figure out dinner since I don't have my brothers ribs this year. He makes some very good ribs.

Your hubby may be arriving just in time for the storm that's supposed to hit that way later today into tomorrow!
Yeah he said they were just getting electric back mid afternoon yesterday, and he woke up to 5 or 6" of snow this morning. I told him to bring me some home haha! We have actually woken up to a dusting the past two mornings, and possibly another dusting tomorrow morning and then a bit on Sunday morning I think - nothing to make a fuss over or anything, just a taste of winter.
I get green with envy whenever you mention Wegmans! We have a Harris Tetter about 50 minutes away, but for the most part I'm stuck with a Food Lion or Acme - both are fine, but boy what I'd give to have a Wegmans near by! I've got grocery store envy:p
Bonnie, so I took a picture
She's so pretty - and looks so dang comfy all curled up like that.
My former father in law passed away at his nursing home.
I'm sorry to hear that, condolences.
Glad he can just rest right now
Praying for good results
Your husband has kept you busy these past few days/weeks! I am glad he was able to get his procedure completed and is home recuperating . And glad you seem to have a handle on your treatment details. Sounds like something that really requires a lot of time to digest the information and side effects...I can imagine it must be a lot even with your extensive medical knowledge. I hope all goes to plan. Continued good health to your husband as well!
am stuck watching a lousy broadcast of the Mummer's Parade

I was so bummed when we moved in 2014 - just 15 minutes down the road, but that was all it took for us to go from the PHL TV channel area to the Baltimore channel area. No more Mummers Parade on TV for me. Sounds like you have two fun WDW trips on the horizon - happy planning. Glad to read your father is resting in comfort at home. It's hard to make those kinda decisions to hold off on gatherings due to illness and or potential illnesses that can be passed on to our more vulnerable family members, I know we are still battling the last of the effects of the bug going around we caught over Christmas.

Well my big NYD plans of clearing out my closet didn't happen - however I did get all of the bathroom cabinets & medicine cabinet cleaned out and cleared out. So - at least I made a start. Hope to get some traction on the closet(s) tomorrow evening and Saturday.

Headed into the office tomorrow. I am tired of looking at the walls of this house, so I'm really glad we decided to open on jan. 2nd even though I'm fairly sure it's going to be dull as dishwasher and most folks have already taken off.

Dad and I had an extra nice lunchtime visit this New Year's Day which was such a blessing. I have also gotten to wish a Happy New Year to several of my favorite people here. I had one therapy session earlier and will have a second shortly. Grace of God, I do continue to get stronger every day. Here's truly to a bright and healthy 2026 for us all.

Easy As I never thought of grocery store envy before. I like that term. I do like having choices here. I like Wegman's for the fresh produce and other grocery items. Their store baked bread is so good. Their meat prices are high and the quality is like other stores so I tend to buy meat at Market Basket. I miss the Hannafords that was in the next town. Shaws is coming into the space in 2026. We had a Shaw's where I lived before and it was OK. Their bakery was not the best and their meat dept not great. I will take a look when they open.

Flyingdumbo 127 Glad you had a nice lunch with your Dad. Since you are making good progress with walking hopefully you can go home soon.

Pea I hope your DH is doing better. You have alot going on. It sounds like your medical team is good with giving you all the info you need to make this treatment go well and to inform you of all the potential side effects. Good thoughts and prayers that all goes well with minimal side effects and maximum benefits.

Tazdev Glad your Dad is home where he is most comfortable. Sounds like a nice party except for the computer issues.

Good morning. It is 16 here now with temps heading into the 20s. I hope to take a quick walk outside. Yesterday I worked 3 hours to get done what was requested and now I am done until Monday. I will get the time off later. Kenny told me to ask for time and a half off. I just might do that! I got some sad news from a long, long term friend. We have been friends since 2nd grade. She moved to the Mid Atlantic area in high school and has been there every since. We were in each other's weddings and always visited when she came to visit relatives. We met in Disney a few times and I went to her DD's wedding at Disney. We email and send pics all the time. Her DH of 50 years had a stroke on Christmas and passed a few days later. He did have alot of health issues but I think this event was out of the blue. They were like Chris and I, always together and loved each other so much. My heart hurts for her. She does have a wonderful DD and DS as well as grandkids. She will be well supported and loved but this loss is alot to her.

Now time to do some more housework. I washed my rugs yesterday with my trusty Hoover cleaner. It got up so much dirt it was amazing. Nice to have clean rugs. Looking forward to lunch with my MA friend today.

Have a good Friday.

Good cold morning; 29 going to a high of 34 but it went down to 22 overnight. This cold weather is bothering my bad knee (accident years ago) for some reason. It's stiff and hard to bend until I'm up and moving around. Never did that before, more old age creeping in I guess.

@Snowysmom Sorry about your friends husband, that's sad. My friend in FL's 96 year old mother passed away on the same that she buried her husband on 2 years ago (he passed right after Don did). Don't you just love that carpet cleaner? I'm always amazed at how much dirt it picks up.

Didn't make pork yesterday, didn't feel like it. I had crab cakes for dinner instead. I just put the pork and kraut in the crockpot for dinner tonight.
Summer surprised me by calling me to wish me a Happy New Year (first time in 25 years). She talked for about 20 min. Lily is moving, yet again, this will be the third place in the last 6 months. Her and her boyfriend aren't getting along anymore, so she's getting a 1 bedroom in the same complex but at the opposite end. They're trying to stay friends. But she met a guy at work that she says is her 'dream man', so we'll see what comes of that, lol

I just finished dusting and vacuuming, need to Swiffer the kitchen and bath and call it a day for chores. The holiday has my days all messed up.

Have a good day

Good Morning!

It's somewhere between 28 and 32 here depending on what website you check. 31 is my guess as that's what my thermometer says.

@Snowysmom - sorry to hear your friend lost her husband. I'm sure it hurts your heart as you've been there.

Nothing much happening here other than pets demanding food while I overslept. They dragged me out of bed. The old 17 yo cat has a loud yowl that he's not afraid to use.

I've spent the last hour setting up my 2026 'book'. I'm always obsessed with keeping track of expenses and even though I can spend fairly freely, I like to know where I am. Plus this way I don't miss payments if I write it all out. I have my online docs also but this feels real to me. I've been wanting to buy a new vehicle but it gets pushed further out as I don't want to go looking except online. I cringe these days at the idea of dealing with salespeople.

Tree is still up and giving me morning light. If I weren't readying for some minor repairs to drywall and other stuff I'd keep it up until time to go on my trip but I'm thinking Tuesday at the latest and maybe as early as Sunday. I have stuff to get rid of and my staging area is my living room as if it's there it has to go immediately. I did get rid of some comforters and blankets that son in law took to give to some people he knows. Those are space hogs. Old towels to the shelter or to the vet.

Tomorrow is trash day and Monday is organics so will put stuff directly to curb today and clean the fridge also as it's cold enough not to smell in the organics container outside.

I found a new in the box steam cleaner buried in my basement. I'd forgotten I had it. It needs to get to work cleaning in the bathrooms.

That's it for now.
