Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Thanks, dear Luckyrabbit so glad you got such a good deal on slippers! I will absolutely share tomorrow how I like my new Easy Spirit slippers. They are expected from Amazon by 10 tonight.

Happy Birthday to Kenny, dear Snowysmom! Prayers tonight’s celebration is fun for all of you! Love always extra to you, you know that. Thank you so much for your extra love and prayers for my feet, too.

Hugs on the dresses, Footballmouse. I am tall with long arms. I hear you on needing longer sleeves. Prayers you find something that indeed works for you. How is precious Baby Mia feeling?

Yay Phillies! Thanks for that good news, dear Judique! I'm so glad extra our friend Taz was able to see the game in person!

Lynn extra morning hug for you, my friend. How are you and Don doing?

LOL, Pea. Thank you so much, so do I, of course! Oh no, poor dear Toto! I think I shared in the past that Champ had awful skin trouble throughout his life. What helped him was when grandma gave him a bath using Avon Skin So Soft! Extra health prayers to dear you, too! Extra hug. I'm sorry, my friend. Know you made a lovely and kind difference to your patient indeed! She is at peace with God forever.

I did look at Oofos website, the prices are way too high for me. Let’s see how the Easy spirit are! I did have a nice conversation with Yelena our next door neighbor yesterday. She shared that whatever shoes she wears around the apartment offer her padding and protection to where she doesn’t feel at all the hard flooring. That’s, of course, exactly what I need. Every step right now=more damage to my poor feet, I know that :( I am NOT a complainer and please know none of my posts EVER are intended as such. I am praying to be a reminder to all of dear you to please take care of your feet! Don’t ever walk on hard flooring without truly good shoes or slippers!

Dad will be headed out shortly on a few morning errands. He may get me one last ibuprofen from Target. Since I took such low doses of it for a week. I think it would be safe to take as needed for the next few days low doses again to help. Mostly counting on the slippers, of course!

Love to all. I will come back later :)

I see that apple didn’t fall far from the tree! 😝 I hope your new shoes help. And hello to Dad!

Wound up at the vet’s yesterday with Toto, another $420. She thinks it’s allergies that he’s picking up outside somewhere. So now we have to bathe him in special shampoo 3X/wk. DH and I bathed him last night in the tub and let him just sit in the water for a while to soothe the skin, then we let the water out and used the shampoo. He sat next to me on the sofa on a towel afterward with my blanket over both of us. This will be our new routine. I still am unsure why this happened all of a sudden when all of his life he had no allergies. He’ll be ten next month. She did say it can happen as they get older. Poor Toto. Such indignity!

I have an afternoon PCP appt. My bloodwork was ok, too, had to get it drawn yesterday. I almost wound up back at the dentist after having that crown done last week, my gum (wrote bum by accident at first, lol) was a little sore and I had to take motrin, but it seems to be getting better now. Trying not to chew on that side.

Back to a short work stretch tomorrow but thankfully I’m off for the weekend. Last weekend I had a very challenging patient - was lovely but had an awful lot if issues going on and kept me super busy. I‘d said to her, “Boy, you’re going to have some interesting stories to tell your family and friends when you get home”. She looked me right in the eye and shook her head “No”. I knew what she was thinking. And she was right. She passed away. We weren’t expecting that (but I did suspect it could happen, she reminded me of my mother when she was getting close to the end). It is hard for me to just stop thinking about those types of things when they happen, after I’ve spent so much time with someone, gotten to know them and put in so much effort. Have thought about her all week, and been sad about it. Losses are hard for me. 😞

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday. 🐥
 and  - for Toto and you!

I looked around at those, too, and it looks like they often go on sale and clearance (including on Amazon), so maybe if you shop around you might be able to find something you like at a more affordable price. They do appear to be recommended by podiatrists. You could check EBay, too, with a best scenario being that someone bought them, didn’t like them and couldn’t return them, maybe. New, in other words.

I lived a lot of this with my mother. She had horrible arthritis in her knees that caused her a great deal of pain as she aged. We tried every new pain medication out there, and she always wound up sick to her stomach (and she’d had bleeding ulcers in the past) so management of her pain was difficult, also. But what it finally boiled down to is her staying on plain ol’ motrin, and our PCP was only be on board if she kept it low dose, but she took it round the clock, and she took an omeprazole to help protect her stomach. That worked. For probably 20 years. We went through heck when she had to come off it prior to procedures and such. She’d take tylenol then, but it didn’t work for her as well. A friend from Russia had recommended a cream that was originally meant for horses. We were able to get her some, and she loved it. I ordered as much as I could. Unfortunately, they stopped selling it online. She was so disappointed!

Her knees weren’t the only problem. Her feet also had horrible pain. She grew up very poor and had to share shoes and wear hand me downs that didn’t fit properly, and her feet became mis-shapen. 😞 So walking for her could often become very uncomfortable, too. We went through a lot of shoes. (In fact, many are still sitting in her closet unworn that soon I’ll be donating.) If she found a pair that fit comfortably, she’d order a couple of pairs. My heart went out to her. I’ll never forget the day in my brother’s house, that his girlfriend made Mom take her shoes off. 😡 (And she was a real witch about it, would not take no for an answer.) Mom was so upset and mad, and was fearful of going there after that. She did not like anyone seeing her feet and would make me hide them if she had to have a procedure or whatever. As I mentioned before, the podiatrists she saw were really whacky, strange people, too. One was on the run from the law or something, he sort of disappeared when she needed him. The next had less than zero personality. That made it so much harder for her. She already felt bad. (Personally I always try to put people at ease if they’re embarrassed or anxious, often with a laugh about my own issues, so patients can understand we’re all human and all have things we’re embarrassed about.)

Anyway, I can sympathize with the feet issues. As I said, I’m very fortunate my feet don’t have problems (other than some pretty mean calluses from working that are hard to get rid of). But I have lived through pain issues and trying to manage them with Mom, and I recognize how difficult and frustrating it can be. After Mom passed I cleaned out my voicemail one day and I think I had about 120 voicemails that were from doctor’s offices and probably 95% of them were for her! Caregivers really liked her because she was “wicked cute” and had a naïveté and innocence about her that made people smile and want to help her. Looking at her you wouldn’t necessarily know she was having trouble, though - she didn’t like to show it, and would even walk straight as a rail if she knew people were watching :lmao: wheras if she was alone, she’d be gimping along. It wasn’t a good idea to bring it up, either - she had a fierce pride and did not like anyone seeing her at her worst.

QOTD: Tell us a little about your parents’ personalities!

Wow I am so very sorry dear Pea that your mom and of course you with her had to endure all that. Truly heartbreaking! :( I will share how I like, God willing, the Easy Spirit slippers tomorrow. Grandma always liked that brand. Extra ❤️

Lighter topic, thanks Pea for bringing back a QOTD! Dad like me can be quiet, he can also at times be very outgoing. He enjoys being out more than I do. He also these days extra appreciates being home! He's definitely a blessing beyond from God to me that is for sure. He is very knowledgeable with classical music, not me at all. He still enjoys his print newspaper and crossword puzzles, too :) There are times he can overreact in the moment. He's typically even keel :)

Grandma was exerbuerant. She fiercely loved anyone she took under her care. Protected all. Grandpa was my first witness to Christ in the quietly kind way he lived. He also always tried to help anyone in need. How blessed I was by God to have them both, Champ, of course, too! :)

Pea I had a westie who developed allergies when he was 11. The vet said that happens sometimes. I hope Toto does well with the baths. So sorry about your patient. I think alot of people know when it is their time.

Lynn Ranger looks comfortable and he is getting outside. Very creative.

My Mother was very outgoing and social. When we went downtown to shop she knew just about everyone. She could have a quick temper but just not too often. She was very nervous in the car and in some settings like hospitals. She never got her license due to this nervousness. She sat in the back seat alot when my Dad drove. My Dad was quiet but did have a big group of friends. I think he listened more than he talked. He was ready to help out and was a great handyman. My Nana who I spent alot of time with was very friendly, loving, and loved animals and birds. Chris always told me I took after her. She had a great laugh and love to say, I'm tickled pink. My father, her only child, was the apple of her eye. The only one in the family who took his place was Kenny when he was born. She adored her great grandson to pieces. I wish she got to know Jeff but had passed before he was born.

Off to dinner soon. Have a good evening.

What a lovely share, thank you dear Snowysmom! Enjoy dinner:hug:

I would appreciate recommendations for a 24oz or so thermos or insulated water bottle. I do not want a straw especially one built in. We would prefer the container to have a cup so that should we ever wish to use it that way we could. For now, I'd be pouring from the bottle into a plastic cup. The main need for this right now is because I do drink water like a 🐳We are trying to save on the Aquafina bottles and once again use more of our Sparkletts water that we get delivered. I haven't been drinking as much of that because of my 🦶Easier to have a water bottle and/or some water in a smaller thermos (not insulated) right by me. For overnight, in the bedroom, having an insulated container would be so handy in general. God willing my feet heal asap and quicker once I get the new slippers (still out for delivery). I would still absolutely use the thermos/water bottle overnight. Thanks, friends.

Slipping thread save! I would absolutely appreciate thermos/water bottle recommendations. We haven't found one yet that truly has a cup. It seems since we'd be paying so much for a bottle anyway, it ought to have a cup!

Slippers came. They are too short. Yelena, my next-door neighbor, kindly came by and tried them on because her feet are smaller. She said she couldn't feel the hard floor wearing them. She could, however, feel the hard shoe inside. That was a great point that I hadn't even thought of. These have no memory foam padding. I can knock almost on them inside which isn't good for my feet. So, they will be going back for a full refund. I would appreciate any additional recommendations that I could order on Amazon. FYI, my feet tend to prefer the bootie style slipper to those with a low back. Thanks everyone and sweet dreams. As a P.S. I will try my new shoes tomorrow. Blessing to have options for sure. :grouphug:to all and love, of course, too!

@flyingdumbo127 keep trying…something has to work for you.

I haven’t been on this thread, but I have caught up reading. We had a friend visit from OK, actually she stayed with my DSis, and she went home today. On this weekend our Ohio neighbors will come, and we’ll cruise out of Bayonne. It will great seeing them every day for the week.

Meanwhile, I’m up watching the Phillies!⚾

Yes, most of the hydro flasks today don’t have cups. Usually you drink right from the bottle. I have two Disney ones that I use every day. I did look around Amazon and they have a few that seem affordable that have cups. I can’t vouch for them though. I know mine keeps my ice intact sometimes for 24 hrs or more. Mine can’t go in the dishwasher so I have to wash them out with a brush (which is a pain). See what you think of these.

QOTD: Tell us a little about your parents’ personalities!
My Dad is outgoing and extremely smart. When we would go to my hometown to visit, everyone would recognize DS because everyone knew his grandpa, And my dad is the one who got me into crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, etc.

My mom was quieter but extremely loyal and protective of her friends and family. She wrote poems, always remembered birthdays and special occasions, and was excellent at bringing people together. She loved kids, and was everyone's honorary aunt.

@flyingdumbo127, it looks like Pea has given you some great Thermos suggestions! I'm sure it would save money and also just feel good to not be going through so many plastic bottles. 🌎

As for slippers, I can't remember if you already tried putting foam inserts (made for sneakers) inside slippers you otherwise like? If you do go get an assessment at one of the stores people recommended, they could help with choosing the right inserts too.

DH likes slippers he got here: https://olukai.com/
but they're pricey (worth the investment for him, because of his diabetes, but you might not be looking to spend that much).

Good morning! 🍁

Starting to cool down here today. I think yesterday was the last of the 80's :sunny:. Saturday it's supposed to be high of 58 and of course I have an outdoor wedding to go to. At least I won't be sweating.

Worked out in the yard yesterday when I got home. Cleaned up all the flowers that were still trying to hang on :flower2:and put some of my summer decorations away. All that's really left is the outside chairs and tables. I'll do that probably next month. Unfortunately I've been neglecting the fish and birds since I'm not outside every day. Got them all set up with their food.🐦🐟

Last night was Survivor night 🙂. I was happy to see the person go that was voted out. I was getting tired of all their crying. Wasn't able to stay awake for The Amazing Race. I always record that so I'll watch it tonight.

Really scored on my auction sight yesterday. I ended up getting a big Graco carseat, a counter-top ice maker, an over-the-door shoe organizer, and a grill. I told Bailey she can have the carseat since Mia will be in her car more than mine. I think she might have felt guilty accepting it so she said for me to keep it. Mia can move out of the carrier carseat once she gets to 20 lbs, I believe she's at 18 lbs. now so hopefully I can get another one in the next couple of months. I'm excited about the ice maker! I don't have an ice maker in my fridge, I just fill ice cube trays.🧊

I would absolutely appreciate thermos/water bottle recommendations.
Since you're trying to avoid walking so much to fill the bottle, you'll want to look for one that has the metal inside so you're drink stays cold. This will keep ice solid for hours and hours. The plastic bottles won't keep the ice from melting.

QOTD: My mom had a good sense of humor. I would always be able to get her to laugh 😂. She had very good taste in clothes, she was a good cook, liked to read, went to every sporting event we had, and was a wonderful grandma. She worked at Macy's (back then it was Shillito's) once I got in high school. My dad was very quiet, he was a big guy (as in tall) which was very intimidating, always fixing something 🛠️, worked on Saturday's so he was never able to go to any of my games growing up. When he retired he made up for it, coming to all my softball games. He would be at every football and baseball game for my kids and my nephews. He was a truck driver for Kahns. They both loved dogs and going to Florida every year.🐶🌴

That's it for me, have a great day!

Good morning. Another foggy morning, followed by sun and 80. Tomorrow the rain moves in and the temps drops

Dealer called yesterday. They couldn't get the car to show them the traction control issue. They ran it on the diagnostic thing and reset some bad codes, and said that may solve it. But they also said that the traction control light shouldn't stop the car from starting. Well every time that light came on like that, I had to turn the key off, press the okay button and then turn the key again and it would start. According to what I found online, that was also reported by others.
They are fixing the heater today. They changed the batteries in both remotes, they wouldn't always unlock the car (thankfully there's still a key slot in the drivers door), fixed the slide thing on the drivers seat, did an oil change, and the 19 point inspection and the only thing they found was that the battery only tested at 450 instead of 6. But I'm not paying them $249 for a battery. The one in it is only 1 1/2 years old. The place we bought it used to be in town, but moved just down the street from us less than 1/2 a mile. I called and they said bring it down when we get the car back, and they'll test it under the warranty. If it does need a new one it will be pro rated. They didn't give me a total for the bill yet, and I better be sitting down when they do, lol

I'm feeling stuffed up this morning and it's making me dizzy so I'm not doing anything for awhile. When the grass dries, it needs mowing again.

Have a great day

@lynxstch , hope your car troubles don’t cost too much, but mostly I hope the problems get fixed.

Dad passed 30 years ago at 75. He was a quiet man with steady demeanor and I just always knew he was on my side. In his large family, he was welcomed in all houses when his siblings would have infighting. I am proud to say I was his daughter and think I favor him in outlook and attitude.

Mom passed in 2016 right after her 97th birthday. She was a strong willed woman, and wanted it known she could go on without Dad. They had been married for 51 years. She wanted to appear strong like Rose Kennedy. We understood. She was a waitress and always stressed an education for my sister and me. She and my sister got along famously. Mom and I did not see eye to eye on many things, but I loved and respected her, especially as we both grew older. She was a wonderful grandmother to our boys. She never drive, but would take busses and trains to see our boys play sports. She lived in Bayonne NJ and we lived in Yardley PA, so that was quite a trip for her. We were fortunate to have her with us so long.
