Thanks! The duckies are cute!
I agree,
@tazdev3225. I'm so sorry the kids drew the short straw on the other side, but you're doing a great job on your end!
What I liked about them, besides being so cute, was that one was “talking” and the other is “listening”. How adorable!
Auntie, I’m sorry you feel in a funk. I know that feeling. If I recall, you are in your 40s. Perimenopause can do weird things. There was a long thread here once about it and at that time, it helped me figure out some issues I was having. I’ll see if I can find it. I think Mona has it, too.
For Miss Dolly - order a copy of Good Owners, Great Dogs. It’s my favorite dog training book, and really mostly all common sense things that are helpful to see in print. I think you’ll enjoy it.
That must be a 4ft fence, right? And she looks so strong and athletic. Hmm. These young dogs are making us work extra hard, lol. Is it possible to replace the fence with a taller one? Or add something to the top to make it taller? (Maybe check with a fence place to see if they carry anything? This must happen to others, too.) Is it just that one side that goes over to the neighbor’s yard (but not out in the street)? When we were looking for dogs we went to see one foster and the guy told us the dog had jumped their fence and went missing for a day. The whole town was looking for him (via FB) and they finally found him late that night. He described seeing it happen. He had just gotten the dog. It was such a surprise when it happened (he had Shepherds too and that had never happened before) he tried to run after him but there was snow and ice and he couldn’t catch up. Plus I think the dog was scared. Fortunately he was ok. But it was crazy for him. I wonder if she will tone it down once she feels more comfortable at home?
I feel like with Grady it’s only been a month or two where he really thinks of this as his home. (Got him in May.) I sort of felt like I could see him still thinking about getting back to his old home, somehow. We took him to this one place and let him off leash and he tried to run away - twice. That was hard for me because, well, I never had that happen before w my Shepherds. We still haven’t attempted to let him off leash again where it’s not completely fenced. But when we come home now he pulls toward the house, instead of looking kind of apprehensive. I still wonder about it but not sure what would happen if he got out. He does love Toto and wants to be with him all the time. He won’t even go out into our backyard if Toto’s not coming, too. (And a lot of times Toto just wants to chill, he’s 9 now, lol, but he goes, and once he’s out there, he acts like he’s young again.) BTW we have a yard full of holes now that we are going to have to do something with in the spring. Never had that happen before, either. Grady has a lot of anxiety which is why we need to exercise him hard every day.
Our front yard isn’t fenced at all so it’s always a challenge trying to make sure the dogs don’t get out the front door. We do have a front porch with a gate that is our saving grace. But the porch fence is only a couple of feet high. Grady could go over it but he hasn’t tried yet, thankfully. They like to sit out there sometimes waiting for people coming home from work. We have had some epic rundowns in the past when Toto’s gotten out. We call it Catch the Cairn. He thinks it‘s a huge game and runs into the woods. DD’s chased him barefoot before and gotten all thorns in her feet. DS actually got a tick bite once and had to be hospitalized. We bought fencing for the front but never got it up. It would sort of be a nightmare with trying to park all our cars. Our backyard has a 6ft stockade but it’s not as exciting back there as it is out front, lol. Fence woes, ugh.
Off to make my coffee.

Thankfully I am off now. Had a very sick Covid pt my last shift hacking away (too sick to ask to put mask on) and lots of spitting stuff up.

And lots of staff sick.

I stay healthy for my days off.
