The 30,000 mile maintenance is basically the usual 6 month maintenance oil change, tire rotation, top off the fluids, check brakes, cabin air filter. They add things like check over the car to be sure everything is OK, new valves, new plugs, and a few other things. Certainly not $610 worth of work. I read what is included on the signs they have on the walls when I was there yesterday. I have a friend who has her mechanic do the maintenance and she keeps the records for warranty use if needed. I also want to get new tires in the Spring as these I have now are original equipment and not the best. Chris researched tires and told me what he was looking at to get when we had to replace the tires so I know what I want. I will not be doing it at the dealer. I heard the service guy tell someone how much it would cost for new tires, a repair that was needed (not major) and maintenance. It was 4 figures. The customer must have asked how much for just the tires and repair and it was almost $1000. Prices really are getting out of hand.

Good morning friends,

For me, it's chilly around here. I woke up at 6:30 this morning realizing it was really 5:30. I rested and read for another hour which was lovely. Any time change always throws me off some for a couple days at least. Already at not quite 9am, it feels much later! I truly wish we'd choose one time and stick with it year-round. I know I've said this often but it's so true that it will get light or dark when God wants it to regardless of what time we humans have set. I would prefer one time but that's okay, all good. We did get very late-night mail delivery last night. It seems we may be getting most of our current mail just not older mail such as from two friends in TX one mailed over a month ago and the other 2 weeks ago along with one envelope from my friend Connie in IL. Eventually!

Dad is out right now doing some morning shopping. He's going to try get more errands done today as tomorrow and especially Tuesday may be very 🌧️

What a nice evening you got to enjoy, PollyannaMom. I’m so glad!

Snowysmom, extra :grouphug:, and care always. So proud of you and your spirit. What a sweet tribute to Chris and I pray also extra time of healing for you to enjoy one piece of cake and write to him. By the Grace of God, my friend, Chris will be extra with you on Tuesday, as will, of course Jesus every day. We’re here as well and so very much care.

:hug:Lynn and I’m sorry you had to deal again with cable trouble. Wishing you a much calmer Sunday! ITA about the $610! Yikes that is so much money. Snowysmom. I’m sorry whatever work was needed on your car cost that much!

Enjoy some warmer weather for me as well, Maple Moose and have a great Sunday:sunny:

Wishing all of you a blessed Sunday. I will check back in later.

@flyingdumbo127 I have not spent the $610 yet thankfully. If I do the 30,000 mile maintenance with the dealer it will cost that much. When I do need that done which is at least 6 months down the road, I will look for a less expensive place to do it. I have a mechanic in my current area that Chris and I went to and Kenny has a good mechanic in his area. I should be good. Thank you for the kindness. Everyone here is very kind.

@Snowysmom, I know Sullivan Tire has “service” specials, and they are less than what the dealerships charge. I, personally, don’t go there anymore (due to other issues with them overcharging), but I think it would be fine for the service. On the other hand, it is really nice when selling a car to have “all records from the dealership”, but today I don’t think it’s really worth it anymore, especially if one has all records, but not necessarily from the dealership. I have to go to the dealership for a recall, and I have an issue with the lift gate not opening, but I’m dreading it. They always tell you you need this and need that, etc. Good luck with it!

So good to see you, dear Pea:grouphug:Telling me or my dad that my car absolutely needs this or that has absolutely been my experience at the Nissan dealer we bring my car too! There always seems to be something extra when we simply bring the car in to have the low tire warning light reset once a year. Until just before Covid, we had a local mechanic just a few blocks away that dad went to forever. They were a kind blessing, very trustworthy. Due to a would-be huge rent increase, this auto shop chose to move much further away from us. Dad has been out there twice now. Not as convenient as it once was. He will eventually bring my car for an oil change/general check to a mechanic about 6 blocks away that we have gone two now, twice I believe on the recommendation from a friend of mine from church. Carols has always provided excellent service. Years ago, when I lived in a small town up North, I well remember a family-owned car repair shop that even had home-made cookies out each time. :car:repair options are an extra blessing to have indeed.

Dad did his first shopping trip at Ralph's, came home to drop off perishables such as 🥚and is currently at 99 followed by Target.

Have a wonderful rest of the morning, dear friends🌸

@Kirby Your DD's ex is such a mean spirited person. I don't mean to be insulting but really, the kids come first. It hurts the kids when he does this stuff that he thinks is just hurting the adults involved. :grouphug: to your DS and your family. I hope you can go with him.

Nice morning here, warm but breezy. It is nice to wake up to light! I will be able to take my early morning walk at least for a while until it gets dark again in the mornings.

My car maintenance went well. The next service is 30,000 miles which is a biggie I guess. The service guy told me it would be $610. I almost passed out. Chris and I bought a service package which included the first 2 years of maintenance at a discount. It was a good deal. Now, that is done. I may see if a local mechanic can do the service for less. Kenny has a good one in his area and I may be living in his area by the time I need the 30,000 mile service. Some places will do the same service as the dealers for alot less. I like this dealer for buying the car and they are honest but dealer prices are crazy.

Off to Trader's Joe's then a quiet day. Kenny is off to Puerto Rico for a few days. Jeff is dealing with older DGS having a stomach bug. I just hope it does not go through the family. So, my weekend is quiet. Chris's birthday is Tuesday so I am baking a one layer cake tomorrow. Then I hope to bring to Jeff's house on Tuesday for his family to enjoy. I will just eat one piece. It is my way of remembering. I also write a card for him for every occasion. Writing helps.

Have a good day.

I haven't done my 30k service yet but I have priced it out. Dealer - $800.
AAA garage - $412. AAA also does 15% off for Costco card holders on parts and labor. I'm a AAA member as well as Costco member but this quote does not reflect a Costco discount as I didn't ask at the time.

This came up when I had my car in for an oil change at the dealer. The tone was totally different than my previous oil change and the guy wanted me to do the work right then and there. I'd never seen him before and didn't get a good vibe so I said not yet. I was still many miles away from 30K also.

I asked him to give me a quote and then took it to AAA and asked them for a quote for the same work.

Good morning. Hard to believe that our temp was 65 degrees at 6 am and has already gone up. I will take this weather anytime! Cats woke up at the usual time this morning,,which means I got up earlier than I planned to.

@Kirby--I agree with Snowysmom and Pollyannamom about your DD's ex. Wow, he really thinks he is entitled doesn't he? So sad that he puts the kids in the middle of it, instead of putting them first. I hear you on the couch situation, ours was getting like yours, when we replaced it. Getting goosed is not fun when you sit down!

@Snowysmom --the last part of your post made me tear up. How sweet that you are making a cake for Chris, and having one piece just to 'remember'. Sending you lots of :grouphug: 's I have to ask--what the heck kind of maintenance costs $610? (no maintenance that we have ever had done cost anywhere near that). That sound ludicrous!!! I too would be looking for a local mechanic to do it!

I had a little argument with your cable company last night. I got our monthly bill in my email and went through the ceiling, finding out they charged us $50 each for 2 service calls. It took me 20 min of waiting for a live chat to ask them what they were trying to pull. It was their defective equipment in both cases. Their new remote they sent us wouldn't work the sound, and after spending 2 hours on calls and chats, that I gave up and told them to send someone. Tech said it was a bad sound button on the new remote, and replaced it with another new one that worked. That's what we pay them so much for every month. Then they tried to charge us for the phone tech. It's not our fault that when they installed their stuff, that they didn't do it right. They tied it into the old Verizon landline wires. They should have just disconnected the Verizon at the box, and taken that line down at the pole. Instead all they did was add a second jack under our desk and wired it to the other jack that Verizon put in. It was their jack that shorted out. The guy agreed with me, and removed both of the charges. I wasn't letting this one go, even if it took me all night, lol1

No plans for the day. Bucs play today, but I am so digusted with their performance so far this season that I don't even care anymore

Going to make ribs, baked potatoes and coleslaw for dinner

Have a nice day all

Dinner sounds great!

And good for you for getting on the cable company!

Hope Don enjoyed his birthday.

:hug:Judique and I am so glad you took the time and care to find a better car servicing price!

I really loved morning worship this morning. I still have some of the sermon to watch. A small group of 6 young kids sang "Jesus Loves Me." Precious! Always fills my heart with extra joy and thanks to hear young voices lifted in praise.

Wishing all of you a good rest of the afternoon🐥:grouphug:

Hi everyone,
I have been keeping up with everyone’s posts. They bring me much joy for the happy ones and some hope that our well wishes and prayers bring some comfort for the sad ones.

Kris was in the hospital this past week. He has a small intestine obstruction. We are home now, but I am really scared it will act up again. We went to the ER and had to wait almost 3 hours to be seen. Then he spent 28 hours in the ER, because there were no rooms. I’m not sure what is going on with that.

My brother-in-law passed away yesterday afternoon. It was only about 1 month since being diagnosed with cancer. I hate cancer. This has been really hard on Kris, he feels a little guilty that he has had his diagnosis much longer and is still hanging on. It’s a little odd, but I get it. The funeral will be really hard for him, I’m not sure if he will be up to it. He was my sister’s husband.

In the past 2 years so much has been happening, I am so tired. My niece, my husband, my brother law and myself have all been diagnosed with cancer. My sister and Kris’s sister passed away. My sister left two adult disabled individuals who have been very difficult to deal with. Our future SIL‘s father passed. It is just too much! And all took place in the midst of the pandemic.

On the other hand, our daughter gets married in Dec. and on new grand baby will be born in a few days. These are wonderful events, but I can’t help worrying that something will go wrong. I don’t mean to sound like a complainer and I know many have it much worse, it’s just hard.

@dazedx3 -- :grouphug: So sorry for all the losses and medical setbacks for Kris. Your ER sounds almost as bad as ours. Prayers for your family.

You can complain to your Quacker family as much as you want or need to. That is what we are here for- in good times, and in bad. Can't wait to hear about your new grandbaby in a few days! That will be a happy time!

No insult taken. He proclaims that he does things in the children's best interest but in reality he is so focused on getting back at DD that he has no thoughts of the children's welfare.

Hugs to you.

Hugs to you also Dazed. So much sorrow in such a short time. It's been 40 years but I've been there and I still remember. And we had joy just like you are having during it also.

Went to the early service today and class. Then out to lunch with friends. DD came got home right after we did. She had a nice visit with her friend. DH cooked hamburgers for dinner. I added Ruffles with Deans French Onion Dip and Bush's Baked Beans. Easy meal, easy clean up.

Kids are home, pick up went well. So glad they are home.

Complain all you want. So many losses! But I'm sure the new grandbaby will be a bright spot!

Blast from the past. I haven't seen Dean's dips in forever but I have Bushes in my pantry. Here we have Heluva good dip.

Good to hear.

Went to sleep early and now I'm wide awake at 1am, with a cat that knows I'm awake and now wants to get up and eat.

@dazedx3 :grouphug: Thinking of you and your family. You are in my prayers. You are certainly not complaining. You have alot going on and so many losses. It is nice that you have the baby and the wedding to look forward to. Let us know when the baby arrives!

It is so warm here for November. I have not been out yet but I think it may be a bit muggy as it is cloudy and looks like it may rain soon.

Have a good day.
