Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Hello everyone,

First off, thank you for all the prayers and well wishes! Thank you especially to Pea-n-Me for reaching out to me, it really meant so much.

I'm really not sure where to start. Life has been a challenge the last few years. My niece was diagnosed with breast cancer, My sister-in-law passed, I had cancer, my sister passed, had to take over the care of her two disabled adult children, I had a knee replacement, My DH had cancer with a very major surgery done, DH's cancer returned, all during Covid.

I was doing ok until we got the news that DH's cancer had returned and it is stage 4, no more can be done. He is undergoing Chemo, with the hope that gives him a bit more time. He is 66, and we had so many plans for our retirement years. I am so gutted, I don't want to be alone. Chemo is rough, and I don't know how long he can keep it up. It's so hard to watch him decline.

I'm sorry, for not posting. It feels too real when I write this down. I cry multiple times a day and just don't know how to go on.

Sorry

F cancer.
I'm so sorry you've had to deal with all of this. ((huggles))
You can always reach out to us here, when/if you are ready.

56 and sunny, slight breeze. Made it perfect weather to get the lawn mowed. Tomorrow I am going to spread the lime, fertilizer and manure/compost in the garden. It's supposed to rain on Sunday and that will work it in. Then I will till it one more time, and it will be ready for planting. My tomato seedlings are being very weird this year. I planted them weeks ago..they all came up, but don't seem to be growing much. They should all have their second sets of leaves and only a few of them do. I know it's warm enough in the cellar,,and I have a grow light over the planting table , same as every other year. I have had at least 3 other people tell me their's are doing the same thing. Very weird and none of know why. We all use different brands of seeds, most of us use Miracle Grow Potting Soil and Seed Starter.

The whole lawn looks nice, guy next door and the guy next to him were all out mowing and weedwacking..so our lawns look really nice. There is a guy across the street who hasn't mowed his yet this year..and it looks awful.

Off to take a quick bath and wash my hair and figure out something for dinner.

Have a nice afternoon all

Good afternoon thread bump!

I hope you are enjoying your trip, Carol, thinking of you :)

That is odd about the tomato seeds, Lynn. I'm sorry to be of no help there, plus I don't even care for tomatoes, lol. Dad does though. I do hope they come around!

Classic (Plain and not ridged/wavy or with sea salt) potato chips seem to be the latest pandemic item hard to find. I've asked this before but what are your favorite brands? Years ago, Lay's was what we got. Lately those seem to taste like oil and the same with Kroger Brand from Ralph's. Market Pantry from Target is not much better.

Dad and I really liked Smart and Final's brand. Smart and Final is very difficult to contact at the corporate level and not much help if you do. The stores are very kind and are also baffled by why they have had NO First Street (their store brand) chips pretty much going on two months. Various workers think it's a factory issue. I understand that as workers/delivery trucks even are in short supply these days. It just seems odd to have gone now for so long. Plus, other store brands of plain chips are not available either. So if you have Favorite plain chip, grab them while you can!

Afternoon hug to all.

Hello ALL.

@dazedx3 - I am so sorry you are dealing with all of that. My husband's cousin was in a similar situation. Her only sister passed away 2 years ago from an aggressive breast cancer, then her husband passed away from pancreatic cancer a year later - all during covid. To make it worse is she had to deal with it while having metastatic breast cancer like her sister. She takes things one day at a time but is so upbeat it amazes me. I will keep you in my prayers.

My grandson stopped by today to do some more of the finishing touches on the house and he had LJ with him. I forgot how much energy toddlers have. LJ was fascinated with the stairs as they live in an apartment. He spent a lot of time going up and then giggling as he "butt bumped" all the way down. He is such a happy baby, but he has a temper. When it was time to leave, he said NO and pushed his father's hands away. We had to fight to get his shoes back on him. He did giggle a bit after that though. I do need to get a sippy cup to keep here for him. Thankfully I have a whole bag of matchbox cars and some building blocks, so he liked that. I was very happy to see my dog tolerated him quite well. She will be 8 this week and is not used to little humans. LJ came over to pet her and she just licked him a few times. He giggled and she was content.

I spoke to the cardiologist today and got the name of the group he wants to consult with my husband while he an inpatient in the hospital. My husband's cardiologist was on staff at this hospital until about a year ago but switched to a different practice. He does know our foot doctor and said he is good. He also explained some things for me as did my daughter. They will admit him inpatient to get all the tests done and then set up the surgery, so I am looking at a 5-day hospital stay at least for my husband. The surgery itself is relatively easy as my daughter explained but because of his multiple health issues they will keep him in for a few days to make sure he is ok. She has even said she will come and change his bandages for him every day once he is home. I have a very weak stomach and will vomit.

I think what has hit me so hard is that April 23rd was the 5-year anniversary of his first stroke and May 24th will be the 5-year anniversary of the second stroke. I will NEVER forget the dates since one was my Mikey's birthday and the other was my son in law's birthday. I am trying to keep a positive attitude but that is in the back of my mind.

I don't have any plans for the weekend other than going through pictures to pick out some I want to put up on the family wall. I picked a few out today for my husband's family. My mom is supposed to give me copies of some of the ones she has on her wall of my family - she has pics of my 2X great grandparents and my great grandparents wedding anniversary. I think she even has a 3 generation of my great grandfather, his mother AND his grandmother.

As far as potato chips I am not that fussy about brands. I do like Herr's and Lays but the store brand is actually fairly food too. Every now and then I get in the mood for Kettle chips because I like that extra crunch. I only like the salted, non ridged chips though. I really dislike flavored chips. If I want onion flavor I will use an onion dip. Some of the flavors I have seen are just odd though.

Not much else going on here but I do need to get dinner started. I am still undecided on burgers, pork chops or hamburger helper. I also have a LOT of ham left but need a break from that. I need to stop getting the largest ham I can find just because it is free. There are only 2 of us and I really didn't need a 12 or 15 pound ham.

Have a good evening.

@dazedx3 :grouphug: I am so sorry and that is really not enough for what you have been through. Please take things one day at a time, one tear at a time,. Everyone here is very supportive so please vent, yell, talk, or just tell us about your day or how you feel. I have been very grateful for everyone's support during the past 7 months. Everyone here really cares.

@TazDev It is nice that you know what to expect when your DH goes to the hospital. It sounds like you have a good plan.

I like Cape Cod potato chips, the 40% less fat. I don't eat them much but sometimes have a craving.

I was in the office today for a lunch get together. I really am disliking the ride down 495. I feel like I play dodg'em with the tractor trailers.

Saturday I have a hair appt in my area, will check on the house, and then we are having a late Easter get together with the kids and grandkids at older DS house. I bought the grandkids some books on bird watching and identification, age appropriate. I loved watching birds with my Nana and I want the grandkids to appreciate the birds.

Have a nice evening.

Thank you all for the chip recommendations. I would definitely prefer less salt with a potato-y taste. The "catch" is I'm picky and don't like sea salt! Dad is actually walking up to 7-11 right now (it's just at the corner practically) to see whether they still have their own brand. Years ago, I did get him as a surprise 7-11 brand hot dog flavored chips. I really only eat a handful of chips at a time and always half the suggested serving. Not a big junk fan that way.

:grouphug:Taz and so very much loving prayer to you and your husband!

Continued extra love and prayers to you as well, Snowysmom.

As of right now we Dad's bookcase will be this one. I also just found this unit as a night stand. We may get two of these and use one with the wheels and one without the wheels. I like that it has a drawer (for my Holy Bible and Devotional) and also a door with a shelf for extra books. I just wish the inside of the cabinet were visible. I don't suppose any of you have this piece?

Have a good rest of the day, everyone.

I don't have either of those, but I really like the bookcase!

 Dazedx3.......

Favorite potato chips, hmmm, I guess it would be Lays but my favorite all time chip is Fritos.

DD took Lou Lou and Lil Joe to Urgent Care the other night and they both have ear infections. DH feels better but still has a cough.

My Irises are blooming. There are more than normal which makes me so happy. I thought for sure that most of them had died. I also have a flower blooming in our berm. I scattered wildflower seeds there last year and a pretty light pink flower is blooming.

It was a little cool for a couple of days earlier this week but it's back up in the 80's during the day now. I was really wishing for 70's for a little bit longer.

Dinner tonight was Chicken and Rice soup.

I have iris also but they need to be dug up and separated, although some flowers are getting ready to bloom. I need someone to dig up as I don't have the strength right now to do it all.

Love the pictures! Just got up and started my dishwasher as I had dozed off. DD still had dishes and I was waiting for her to bring them down earlier. Now to try to get back to sleep!

Good morning..30 and had a hard frost overnite. Going to be 70 today. I can see my neighbors little garden from here, and the 2 tomato plants she put in the other day are bent over, she just wouldn't believe me when I told her to put a piece of heavy plastic over the garden. This is the second batch she has lost. The weather is too crazy and it's still not viable to plant tomatoes around here till almost Memorial Day! I am going to get all that stuff into the garden today and mix it in with the tiller..then let the rain on Sunday do the rest.

Have a nice morning all~~

Happy Friday! :butterfly

Not much going on for today, just working from home. I'll get out for a walk sometime today but first I'm going to dye my hair. Oh, almost forgot, I have to cut the grass today. Since I'm working this weekend and it's supposed to be rainy next week, today is the only option. I'll probably do a quick clean to the main rooms around the house in a little bit.

So far I'm not good at picking shows to watch that have a happy ending :guilty:. A few months ago I was hooked on Schitt's Creek (Netflix), watched the entire series way too quick, love the show and couldn't stop watching. However, the last episode I really wanted the main girl's boyfriend to come back so they could get back together. He didn't :(. Now I'm hooked on Psych (Amazon Prime Video) and I only have a few more episodes to finish the series. Last night on the episode I watched the girlfriend left to take another job in a different city :(. What the hell, I was expecting a wedding towards the end! She better come back for the last episode.

Favorite chips - I would have to go to a brand made and sold in Cincinnati, Grippos. Their BBQ chips are the most popular but they're too hot for me so I like the plain. National brand, I would go with either Cape Cod or Ruffles. If I'm eating chips now-a-days, it's Lays Baked, really good and less calories.

I think that's all I have, guess I'll start my cleaning. Have a great day and enjoy the weekend!

Good Morning! :)

Thank you all for the chip recommendations. Lol, do not waste your money on 7-11 Chips! Awful. We're going to order the furniture over the weekend. I'm glad all of you like what we chose :) Prayers extra for Lil Joe and Lou Lou, Kirby, i love the picture. It feels later in the day than it is already, possibly because it's cooler and overcast. Dad is off doing laundry and Ralph's. I am hoping he will stay home all weekend. Happy (almost) May, everyone. I'll stop by later.

It's supposed to rain on Sunday
I really hope it does rain on our end of the state, too. We could use it, if we don't end up getting any I guess it will be time to get out the sprinklers for the garden.

My husband likes the low salt or no salt chips, and of late I've found them hard to find myself. Usual brand is Lays Low Sodium, flat or wavy. Also like Herr's or Utz no salt. Once in a while I grab crab chips.
Saturday I have a hair appt
I have a hair appt. this afternoon. I've decided to stop coloring my hair (had my colorist match my original color which was nice) as I was, and try to see how much is actually white (I turned young) since I've been coloring it so long! I estimate it to be about 75% white :scared: I am already double guessing that choice because I don't want to look at white hair staring back at me at only 49, but I'm going to stick with it and see the experiment thru for a little while. Plan is to go with some simple highlights in order to ease thru the transition. Luckily my hair is short. I will probably go back to coloring it, I don't find it a hassle to go get it colored every so often.

I still haven't gotten around to watching that show, I really want to. I need to start it -

Good afternoon everyone.

Pea-n-Me , how goes it with this go round w/ a rescue pup? I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Picked up the new blades we ordered for the finish mower earlier this morning, so husband can put them on later today or tomorrow morning and my mowing should look a lot nicer! We ordered blades for the zero turn as well, I hope they come in today or tomorrow.

Not sure what's for supper this evening, two top contenders are chili or pizza. Whatever we don't have tonight we will have tomorrow evening.

QOTD: Mother's Day do you have any plans? Me - not really. I'll head out to the nursery to pick up some plants/flowers for the porch, but it's not a huge holiday for us. I'll send my folks a little something as my father's b'day is the day before Mother's Day, but we have no grand plans to go out for dinner or breakfast or anything. I will take full advantage of the occasion to drink the bottle of champagne I've had languishing in the fridge. The boys will pop by or call, or both!

I remember when my sister decided to go back to her original color. She had been coloring her hair a very dark brown, almost black that was very harsh against her light skin color. I couldn't tell her because when she gets offended she might not speak to you for a very long time. Hmmm, maybe I should have. :scratchin:laughing: Anyway, she went to a coworkers daughter who was a beautician and not only got her hair cut much shorter than she wanted but her hair turned out a light peach. To be honest, the cut and color looked good on her and I did tell her that. But she was horrified. She went to her old beautician, she had left because the woman has said some things that offended her, and was able to get her hair color a steel gray which also looked good. She now has her original color which is mostly gray. She is grayer than me, we are two years apart, me being older.

Mother's Day, no plans at the moment. Now Saturday is another situation. Lil Joe and Lou Lou's birthdays are on the 9th and 11th respectively. They are my 911 GK's, emergency, emergency! DD is taking Lil Joe and two of his friends to some kind of place that has an indoor playground. Then Lil Joe is going to one of his friend's soccer game. After that, she is taking Lou Lou and one of her friends to get a mani/pedi. Lou Lou loves having her nails/toes done. I may go too and get one also so I'll be ready for James' wedding the next Friday or I might wait a couple of days to do it during the week. With it being prom time, the nail places are swamped on the weekends.

I don't know about Sunday. DS and fiance will have to get that all figured out, when they come see me and go see her mom.

My dryer's drum is sitting near the breakfast table, parts all over the place. It began making screeching noises yesterday. DH said that it sounds like the bearings are going out. So he called the repair guy and he was able to come out today. He had to drive to Dallas for parts so hopefully he will make it back here in the next hour or so. He also found over $5 worth of change in the dryer. I've split it between Lil Joe and Lou Lou. She was tickled pink to add to her piggy bank.

Both of the kids go to see their dad tonight for the weekend. It will be quiet around here for a couple of days.
