Is anyone on the Dream right now? How did a girl fall overboard?

has anyone seen the update on this?

Supposedly its now confirmed he didn’t put her on the rail and authorities are confirming those were all online rumors

Honestly, I don’t think that putting plexiglass or closing off those port holes is gonna really mitigate any type of future risk. I’m mean, seriously if they cover those up, they might as well do every balcony in every balcony state room. So easily a kid could pull a chair or table over, climb and fall over.

This was a freak accident.

What do you know. I wonder if all the folks who “knew exactly what happened” will apologize for jumping to conclusions (that was sarcasm, they won’t).

I am shocked the mom is still blaming Disney. Equally shocked we got any answers as I expected crazy lawsuits to be filed

I am not shocked at all. If you are clueless enough that you think it’s a good idea to perch your kid on a cruise ship railing, you are clueless enough to convince yourself it’s someone else’s fault your kid fell overboard.

Some people should not be given responsibility for a house plant, let alone a child.

I read it, I thought she told her daughter to sit in the porthole.

Yeah, the open porthole with just a low railing designed to protect a person standing on the deck looking out the porthole, not someone actually sitting or standing in the porthole itself. Portholes are windows, meant for looking through, not for sitting in or on, and especially not sitting or leaning on the porthole railing for a photo op.

My mom always told me that railings are meant for your hands, not your butt. She would have dragged me out of the porthole the second I tried to climb up, not posed me for a photo. Probably why I’m alive today, since I really would have done a lot of stupid stuff as a kid if she had encouraged (or ignored) me rather than actively preventing me from doing whatever it was.

What caught my eye was this quote from the article: "The mom later told officers she had taken several other photos of her daughter on the ship’s railings during the trip." This wasn't a one-time lapse of judgement thinking there was glass, mom had been ignoring the rules all over the ship.

Agreed!

When I was on the Wish in August, there were parents just sitting their kids on the stacked chairs near the rail on Pirate Night. I might add - the night after the possible MOB muster station time. By the time I got one of the CM's attention, and she ran over to tell them that wasn't allowed, one of the girls was practically leaning against the plexiglass. Which, I might add, only came up to about her waist. And then, of course they pulled the "Well where are they supposed to be?" before grudgingly moving away.

Shortly after, another family got the same "brilliant" idea. Kara, the CD, happened to be standing close to where I was so she was the easiest for me to get to. She went down and same basic interaction. But they did move - and one of the CMs spent the rest of Pirate Night standing by them.

You'd think the parents would look at how close their kids were to the actual side and care - especially since we'd just spent time mustered because of a possible MOB. But nope - just wanted their little one to have a "good view" of everything.

And there are still times I've watched sail away on the webcam and seen parents sitting their kids on the rail - or even standing in the case of toddlers. It's like they left their brains at home while they went on vacation.

and that quote is why I'm surprised charges were not filed

There's no room on these portholes to sit and pose for a picture. So stupid and dangerous.
Exactly. To take a picture of a kid with the backdrop of the ocean, it would be easy and safe to have the kid stand on the deck in front of the railing (as long as the kid was old enough to know not to climb). A 5 year old might be able to sit safely on the lower ledge in front of the railing, but even that is risky and unnecessary. There is no reason to allow anyone to sit on top of the railing.
