Quick post while the Dis lets me do so. I've tried to post a few times already this morning. Each time, a spam add comes up that prevents me from doing so :P

Hugs and Happy Monday to each of you from rainy LA. I hope you're keeping safe and cozy today, my friends.

Prayers to all in need of dental or medical work. Of course, love and care always to for all Quackers.

Welcome home, Carol! Prayers for Carter indeed!

I will check back later.

My sister in law keeps talking about “forever”, as well, as in, “this is now forever my life and circumstance”, etc.

I totally understand where your SIL is at this point as I am at the same place. I try to take it a day at a time but keep thinking down the road and say this is my life now. When I close the door on my room or house or condo at the end of the day I am alone. I am hoping that this attitude changes over time. Right now it is too raw to even think that it will. My therapist is a big help with these issues and she is very supportive. Every one grieves on their own time line and no one is the same. She tells me to cry all I want and don't feel bad about it. She recommended a book, It is OK not to be OK by Megan Divine. The author went through losing her husband and she was a therapist. So far I like it but I am only a few pages in as I cry as I read. I have a physical next week and I am sure my PCP will want to give me anti anxiety meds. I really only want to take meds if it is absolutely necessary. Plus I don't want to gain weight back or have trouble taking off more pounds. Most of those meds lead to weight gain. I don't need any more problems right now. I talked with my DS and he said he would recommend meds for people who could not cope at all or wanted to be on meds for a short period of time to help a bit. I may look at over the counter options especially for sleep. That is my biggest issue.

@lynxstch My DH loved Donald Duck and hated going back to work on Mondays. The Monday morning greeting you posted this morning with Donald Duck made me smile and think of Chris. Thanks for brightening my day a bit.

Now I am off to get my Moderna booster. While I am at CVS I think I may do some stocking stuffer shopping for the little ones. I always get them electric toothbrushes with Disney characters.

:grouphug:❤Snowysmom, so proud of you and continue to admire your courage. One day at a time, God is with you forever and by His Grace we are, too, my friend as is, of course, Chris!

I am extra thankful to the Good Lord right now. Rainy day that needed both dad and I to go out to a medical appointment. I'm safely home, dad will be so shortly. Main thing is how beyond blessed we both continue to be by His Mercy and Love, protection.
At our Quacker meet we definitely, being Quackers, of course, need to take a picture with Donald :donald:Would be fun if Daisy were there, too. I've always wanted a picture with a pair of characters like that especially with our favorite mice ::MickeyMo::MinnieMo

Hug and good afternoon/early evening to all!

I may look at over the counter options especially for sleep. That is my biggest issue.
A lot of people today use Melatonin. It’s OTC. It’s practically all we use in the hospital now, unless someone comes in using something else, and it works for most people, who are often surprised. It starts at 3mg, but you can also get 5 and 10mg tabs, or take two 3mg, etc. But try one 3mg to start. Don’t wait to take it too late in the evening. Another thing great for sleep is Tylenol. Some people use Tylenol PM but it has benadryl in it and can dry you out by morning. Plain Tylenol gives you a few hours, usually. (And don’t be surprised if you sweat as it does lower the body temperature that way.) Talk to your son about it, but some people use a short term, low dose of Trazadone. You would need a prescription for that. DH had to use it for a medical issue he was having that was keeping him awake, and I was surprised how well it worked for him. Our PCP pleasantly surprises me sometimes.

I got mine the other day. Was really tired afterward (like, dozing sitting upright), with some chills, but not too bad. I hope yours goes well, and I hope you had a nice time shopping for stocking stuffers!

Quiet here! 👂

I remembered to take a pic of our pork roast dinner last night. I’d gone to a farmer’s market yesterday w DS and bought all fresh vegetables there, so we combined them (Italian beans, Brussels sprouts, two colored carrots), but cooked the butternut squash separately. It was yummy. Trying to figure out what to have tonight.

Weather is kind of lousy here, we’re expecting that tropical storm, I guess, maybe two from what I hear. So it’s overcast and a little rainy. I heard thunder overnight.

May try to tackle some clothes in my room today if I get some of my energy back.

DD just got home from work, one of her patients tested positive for Covid overnight, so she just hopped in the shower. (And brought me a Dunkin‘ coffee - love that girl!) Thankfully she had her PPE on. You never know these days who may have it. DH and I got our boosters, it was an easier choice than for the young adults in our lives. They have to decide whether to get their boosters or not, balancing possible side effects of the vaccines with how they might do getting Covid. Have any of your young people gotten boosters?

Wishing everyone a good day!

What would happen if you let the sheets go for a week or two? I wonder if that’s something that’s aggravating your back? If you do have a disc, or even musculoskeletal issue there, all that bending and turning could be un-doing any progress you make the rest of the week. (?) If it really bothers you to not wash the sheets, coulf you sleep on top of the bed linens for a while with a blanket or two, so you don’t feel like you have to change the sheets? Sad to see you feeling this way. Hugs.

My son and DIL got theirs as he works in a hospital she is an elementary school teacher. Myself and both DD's will be getting very shortly.

Oh and if you were close I'd be inviting myself for dinner! Not really, I'm not that forward, but it looks delicious and I may just copy it in a day or two.

I’d love to have you over!! :goodvibes I noticed that pork roasts were reasonably priced in our area. This is the second one we’ve had this month! But everyone likes it and it feeds a crowd, with leftovers, so it works out well.

Good Morning, friends,

So far, so good, and the Dis seems to be cooperating, yay! Missed you all yesterday though it was a longer (but beyond blessed) day here.

Shopping for stocking stuffers sounds like such fun! In fact, I was/maybe still am working on a secret Christmas surprise for an elderly friend. When I spoke with her on Sunday night, she was scheduled for surgery in November. Now it sounds like that was suddenly called off. I did not hear that from her but someone else. Before I knew the surgery was called off, according to one person, I had begun to plan a big secret surprise for Barbara Ann. I have a giant felt stocking that I was going to try to get a many folks as possible to fill with Christmas cards and if anyone also wanted a small stocking stuffer.

I absolutely do not want to impose on my friend ever by asking her whether she is or isn't. To me, that is her choice on whether to share! She may very well still be in the process of getting other opinions. I know she was probably having two different surgeries. What matters to me, always, is going forward as called by God and praying to do the kind and right thing. I believe in my heart that is to simply update all that I have already asked by saying the truth (of course and always, only) that surgery may be postponed for now. It is not my place to ask. I would still love to go forward with this as our friend had regardless of whether she has or does not have surgery this year, been through a ton health wise (and most likely will continue to do so). I am simply letting all know that she may not be recovering. Leave it at that. What do all of you think and thank you!

Pea, I LOVED your post to Lynn! Big hug to both of you ladies. Dear Lynn, indeed the sheets can wait, friend, really they can.

Much love to all of you. I will check back in later.

Hug to you mom, PollyannaMom and prayers for your Ds in his decision.

I did email all who I had asked to contribute simply sharing that regardless of whether surgery is a go or not, let's still try to bring extra cheer to our friend who has been through so much already. Feel better about having done so.

It's still cool here but thankfully dry! Dad is doing laundry and some shopping so I hope it stays dry.

Will check back later.

We are home after a wonderful week

Glad you had a good time!

I think I read in other threads of folks having a similar issue-

I'm safely home, dad will be so shortly

That's good - it's always good to get out of the house.

Weather is kind of lousy here

Here, too. Think we are enjoying the tail end of the weather the east coast got yesterday/overnight. I hope the dogs haven't talked my husband into starting a fire for them...

Will be back later to check in if I feel better

I hope your afternoon went well and you are feeling better. There is for sure something very blah about today given it's so damp & gloomy.
Forgive me for being so forward - but when was the last time you were seen by your Dr.? I'm guessing it was well before your husband fell ill? You seem to have been run down for a long time now, I wonder if you might benefit from going in? They might be able to help you bounce back. Or help with resources if you need some assistance w/ your husband. You are going to run yourself into the ground if you haven't already.

What would happen if you let the sheets go for a week or two? I wonder if that’s something that’s aggravating your back? Good idea! Make it easier on yourself, not more difficult.

Well, yeah. It's a proper gloomy, damp chilly type of afternoon out there today, at least in our neck of the woods. I took out some of the last of the venison to make a thick, hearty stew tomorrow for dinner. Should hit the spot. I think pasta might be on the agenda later this week. Saturday afternoon we have a family obligation but other than that I think we have a quiet weekend on tap. Still mowing, so that is about as exciting as it's getting. Was on the road for a fair bit of the afternoon and now I'm watching the VA election coverage from afar. Interesting election, especially with what is going on in Northern part of the state.

Time to head home - have a good one everyone!

Good afternoon everyone.

Been busy the last couple of days. The funeral was today for the extended family member. I couldn't stay but my husband did. Mu daughter drove him home and I picked up the boys from school. My husband decided since so many people weren't wearing masks he would take his off. That lasted 2 seconds. Thankfully the extended family made sure he kept it on for me. There were so many people there and I don't know their status, I was NOT taking any chances. We did decide to have Christmas Eve this year. My daughter will keep her distance or wear a mask as will the boys.

My Disney trip is paid off and the credit card is paid off. I should have a nice rebate check available in about a week which will cover expenses while in Disney. Even better I got triple points for the last payment. MagicBands are also on their way, I bought a 50th anniversary one. I have issues with the app so I prefer the bands plus my husband doesn't have the app.

If you could keep my cousin in your prayers I would appreciate it. He is finally getting surgery for the cancer he has. I hope that it hasn't spread. He had no insurance having just lost his job when diagnosed. It took forever to get that straightened out with the pandemic. He was diagnosed over a year ago. On the bright spot he finally married his long time girlfriend. They have been together over 20 years, lived together but he just wouldn't commit to marriage.

Dreary weather here today. Dinner is easy though, leftover Chinese food.

Waving hi with prayers for sweet dreams and a good night for all of you.

Good advice, Easyas! I'm sorry about the gloomy and damp weather out there. I hope you and the pups, too, enjoyed a cozy evening.

Hugs to you and big prayers for your cousin indeed, Taz.

Carving Jack o' lanterns was our big treat this evening. The GK's had a lot of fun. While I was helping Lou Lou with hers, I was getting a marker out of my back pocket and found $20. It looked like it had been through the wash a time or two. Don't know when I put it there.

We're expecting some rain tonight. I heard on the radio that it was a spin off of the big storm that hit the West Coast. Expecting temps to drop down into the 50's at night and stay in the 70's during the day. Love that kind of weather.

Had our Book Club meeting last night. October's book was Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. I really enjoyed reading it. We had a great discussion about it.

QOTD: Are your medical and dental memories good ones, or hard ones?
I am the only one in my family that was dental fear. My childhood dentist was awful to me. Filled cavities with no pain killer. He used to say "It won't hurt, it's just a little cavity." My blood pressure goes up at the dentist. They've begun using gas on me that last couple of years but it doesn't seem to help. Getting my teeth cleaned doesn't bother me though until the dentist comes in to look over my teeth. I've got an appointment to get a crown in December. I've let the tooth go long enough, I hope that it will wait that long. I'd rather that they just pull it. They've mentioned a drug called Halcyon but I would need a doctor's clearance for it.

As far as medical, I can have major surgery without skipping a beat. No problems there.

Pea-n-Me, your dinner looks delicious!

I need to look into when I can get my Covid booster. Are hospitalizations going down in ya'lls area? It has here for now. I'm thinking about forgoing a mask tomorrow at the grocery store.

Dinner tonight was vegetable beef stew.

I love your pumpkin carvings! Great job! I love a good beef stew. (Sadly, I can’t make it as good as my mother used to.)

And I’m sorry to hear of another with bad experiences with dentists growing up. 😤 I wonder if they’ve addressed these types of experiences in today’s dental schools? Many dentists of the past seemed kind of rough! The thing about pulling the tooth is the possibility of teeth shifting and misalignment and all that. But I hear you. My dentist keeps mentioning a crown for one tooth and I‘m not in any rush to go down that path. The tooth doesn’t bother me but it’s been filled a lot and there’s not a lot of room to work with fillings anymore. So I baby it, ie try to remember not to crunch pretzels on that side, lol. After cleanings, he brings it up, I sort of laugh and say it’s holding its own, he laughs back and says I’ll see you for the next cleaning, etc. (DH, otoh, is always getting things done. :lmao: ) We used to use halcion in the hospital years ago (for sleep) but not in probably twenty years, at least. I’ve seen threads here about it if you do a search and want to research it more.

Hospitalizations in our area are way up, not down. Because a lot of people waited to go to hospitals and doctor’s offices during Covid, and things snowballed. A lot of people in the hospital now have multiple and complex problems, and ERs are overly full with no place to put extra patients that come in. Not to mention areas that are still high in Covid cases, which have changed the landscape of hospitals everywhere. Empty beds can be hard to find. Do you mean that Covid hospitalizations are down?
