Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Afternoon everyone.

It is very warm here today and I get to spend the late afternoon enjoying the weather watching my grandson play baseball.

PSA - Do NOT get appliances from Best Buy. I had another issue with the dishwasher. Thankfully it was an easy fix but when they installed the new dishwasher they did something to the garbage disposal. It was also brand new and was so quiet it purred. Now it sounds like it is crushing a car and they insist it is old and broken from being old.

I have been trying to get my husband to agree to a trip to Disney in December but he is giving me a hard time and saying go alone. I know he isn't a huge fan of Disney but he always liked it there for the Christmas holiday and it would be the 50th anniversary celebration. I don't know if I should book it and just tell he is going, or go alone as he is insisting. I think he actually likes a week to himself. I just want to book before I can't get a room in my price range. Honestly I like the Value Resorts and thought he would like Pop Century with the Sky Tram.

I found out my nephew was exposed to Covid in his classroom. I wonder if we will ever get back to normal. At least I can go watch my grandsons play baseball.

Have a great afternoon and enjoy this lovely weather.

I just want to book before I can't get a room in my price range.

We are in exact same boat! Want to go for the Christmas holidays and see the decor, but rooms are few and far between.

My sister in law just sent me this delicious looking cake..

Man - I wish I could cook like that!

My news - I saw a otter today in the creek! Went down to walk thru the woods and visit my stumpery and take my husband a beer. I'm down there chatting with him and there it was! So cool!

Hello! I was excited to learn that the splashdown for SpaceX Crew 1 has been moved to Saturday morning! Which means I should have the opportunity to watch it. "Should" being the operative word... I normally sleep in on Saturday, and am due for my 2nd COVID vaccine on Friday, which means I may not be coherent on Saturday morning.

In other news, I got a text from the music director at my church on Tuesday morning asking if I'd be available to sing again on Sunday, with practice being Tuesday night. So I had less than 12 hours notice for practice. Then Sunday evening is our congregational meeting where I (among many others) will be voted on and appointed to the various boards and committees. I'll be on the missions committee. The missions committee overseas the missions budget, which is completely separate from the general fund, so the church can't decide to take away from missionaries because we want new carpet. (I'm exaggerating a bit.... I hope!) We also coordinate with the missionaries themselves when they are on home assignment, plan short term missions, fund missions training opportunities, etc. It's a three year commitment with the unwritten expectation that you will stay on for a second three year term. I've done it once before, but only did one three year term because that that point, as a single in my late 20s, I didn't feel "settled" and wasn't ready to commit to saying I'd stay three years. Now I'm basically like, "Uh... I'm not goin' anywhere. Why not?" Ha! (Don't worry. there was mor thought put into the decision to say yes than that.)

For the past year or so with COVID, I've driven my car basically once a week, maybe twice. That's... not the case right now.

Sunday: Church (twice, because I forgot something and had to go back home)
Monday: Work at the further of my two offices
Tuesday: Church
Thursday: Work at the closer of my two offices for a "special assignment" to help some coworkers figure out new software we're starting to use
Friday: Driving an hour and a half each way for my second COVID vaccine (long(ish) story, but short version is it's a special vaccine event just for state employees.)
Sunday: Church, and once again, two times. Morning service and evening congregational meeting.
Monday: Work at the closer office
Tuesday: Work at the closer office (we are starting two days in office in May)

My car is going to be like "What in the world is going on?? I'm not used to this!"

lol I wasn't going to share all of that (at least not quite yet), but one thing led to another, and, well... now you've got my schedule for the next week or so. 😆

I'll be on the missions committee.
Thanks for what you do - I'm not a religious person BUT I am related to many of them! My cousin is a missionary, and he and his wife are very passionate about what they do!

I didn't want to do it, but I put the AC on. I could dealt with the momentary warmness- but my husband has been up since 2AM and he's tired. And hot. And been working hard all day, so I put the AC on in hopes he could have a good nights sleep. But I'm turning it off and opening the windows tomorrow!!!

Not my flavor but such a pretty looking cake, Lynn! Go you indeed for making it. Hope it turns out very tasty.

Aw, that is so cool, Easyas about spotting an Otter. I hope both you and your DH sleep well and cool tonight. That's cool about your cousins. I have never known any real life missionaries just have read/heard about them.

Thank you for all your church service, Allison! Prayers your vaccine goes smoothly!

Have a good night, friends.

@Kirby, what did you read for book club?
We just caught up with each other and suggested books we might want to read over the rest of the year. We are going to start off with A Killing in the Hills by Julia Keller for May. It takes place in West Virginia.

I’ve heard of but never had spaghetti pie. What is it?
lynxtch has it right. I put eggs, butter and parmesan cheese in the spaghetti to form a crust in a deep dish pie plate. Then I put cottage cheese on the spaghetti crust but not to the edge. Next is a hamburger mixture (you can use pork too) with diced green bell pepper, diced onion, canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano and garlic salt which goes on top of the cottage cheese. Bake for 20 minutes and then put mozzarella cheese on top and let it melt before serving.

I've had our A/C on for about two weeks now. When it gets above 70 it's too warm for me.

Well, we've been waiting on the rain, none yet. Lil Joe's t-ball game was canceled just in case it did rain but it's dry right now. We've got a chance of storms overnight but the cap we have over us is keeping everything away for now. It's good because we won't have severe storms but bad because it doesn't rain.

Dinner was cheeseburger macaroni, corn and salad.

Good muggy Thursday morning! It rained overnite, the temp stayed at 65. Its very sticky outside, and warm in here. I even left the windows open and the fans going all night. If it doesn't rain more today, I am going out to uncover the ac unit and get it ready to turn on. I don't mind the heat so much, but I can't stand mugginess. Hubby finally said he was warm last nite, I should hope so, the thermostat said it was still 81 in here at 9 pm, lol. He hogged the whole bed last nite, and tossed and turned so much that I couldn't sleep. Finally got up and slept on the couch for awhile. Going to have to go back and get a couple more ZZZ's now. All cats are fed, and I have no major plans for the day. Do not feel like cleaning, but may do the bathrooms and pass the vacuum.

Have a nice day everyone!

Taz sorry to hear about your bad experience with appliances from Best Buy. I have had good luck with mine. Though DH did haul the microwave in when we got one to replace our it was so old it had a prob for meats one that we got off free cycle finally died and DH and 16 year old who was not much past 15 hauled in the washer and dryer and set them up.
Actually the only appliances in our house that have been even partially set up by a professional were our 2nd dishwasher which was used and gifted to us from friends who had it removed from their house thinking that was why their garbage disposal was not working only to discover the garbage disposal still was not working. Her brother who happens to be a licensed plumber came for a visit took one look at things and figured out that when the dishwasher was installed they switched a wire. Since both their old dishwasher and new dishwasher still worked and they didn't want to hassle with removing the new one and returning it to the store they gave us the old one. Her brother came with them and got it installed for us. Interesting thing is he mentioned that what we thought was one that was only about 5 years old was actually a model closer to 15 years old. We found out that modular home companies will purchase them in bulk when models are being completely discontinued often getting them from the manufactures warehouses and use those until they run out hence the kitchen will be outfitted with white brand name appliances and never specific models of that brand. Sadly that dishwasher died on us a couple of years ago so it is back to handwashing all the dishes and just using the dishwasher as a large drying rack. DH does not want to spend the money to get a new dishwasher.
We did have our new larger freezer set up by the store we bought it from though DH did have to lift it up and put the wheels on it. We choose to go with the wheels because while we have them locked and don't plan on moving it if something should fall behind it will be much easier to get the items or even just sweep the floor under the edge being on the wheels and able to move if just enough to do those things.

Got my walmart order for later today done and ready to go. Wasn't able to get tator tots in the store brand and only could get small bags in the name brands, since I would need 2.5 bags for a tator tot casserole large enough to feed my family without cries of she got more and I wanted seconds but she got it before I could I decided to skip it this time and not have that on the menu rotation for the next week or so. Got taco shells in both hard corn and flour along with some buritto flour shells. Plan is to use a large number of the flour ones to make enchaladas sometime this next week though if we don't have any enchalada sauce we will need to pick some up at either Albertson's or Winco. DH was pretty sure we had some when he got home but did not actually go and look. That was out of stock at my store as well.

Morning everyone. Looks like rain here today.

My grandson played great last night. He went 3 for 3 and stole home twice. He also made some great plays in the field. The coaches are still being cautious with his shoulder, which I really appreciate, so they had him play 1st base. This is not his normal position and honestly he has never played there before except maybe in T-Ball, but you would have never known it to watch him play. It truly did put a big smile on my face, I am thrilled I can share it here and have a great Grandmom Brag moment. My mom doesn't like sports and only cares about grades. She will brag about my nephews to everyone but I am not allowed to brag about my grandkids. To be fair I could brag about Anthony's grades, he is a straight A student and very good looking. OK enough bragging lol.

I did tell my husband that WE are going to Disney. He can sit in the room all week for all I care but we are going. He said he still wants to stay home because he can watch college football all week. I laughed at that. He watches it anyway, I watch TV on my laptop. Now I just have to decide if I want monday to monday or tuesday to tuesday. Airfare is slightly cheaper on tuesdays for some reason.

Unfortunately my husband was never handy and the strokes make it impossible for him now. My brother always handled most things for me but since Covid he is really weird. He gets mad if we are not wearing a mask outside and 10 feet apart. Yet he goes to my parents house and my other brothers house all the time. The same house they were at on friday for my nephew's birthday to find out the other nephew was exposed to Covid and is now in quarantine.

The issue I have with Best Buy is just with the dishwasher. The first one was dented on delivery and didn't work right. The second one had the minor issue but they screwed up the garbage disposal when they finally showed up. They completely skipped the one delivery appointment after I waited 13 hours. The fridge and stove were no problem. Unfortunately I can not find the receipt anywhere for the garbage disposal so I will have to buy a new one and replace it. I can do some electrical work, I can't do plumbing beyond changing a toilet so I will have to get someone to install it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning. A very rainy one, but the flowers need it and i would rather have sunshine on the weekend to start pulling weeds and other yard work.
appliances - we have been in our house almost 16 years, I am now on my 3rd dishwasher, 2nd fridge. Meanwhile, the tiny microwave that barely fits a dinner plate from my husband’s first apartment is still going strong after 23 years!! The lawnmower also still works after 16 years, so he just says I’m hard on appliances.

Good morning everyone....I've been missing a few days. Have had a tough week(yikes I don't even think it's been a whole week), my mom was transferred from her rehab to the hospital for a bad infection they can't get rid of. Hopefully what they are doing will help, it was kinda iffy for a day or two so I've been emotional exhausted. I tried to post but would get too worked up and just moved on to something else. Things are looking up a little so I'm feeling better today. If you don't mind to keep her in your thoughts and prayers, I'd really appreciate it. ❤

My dad and I are going for our 2nd shot this afternoon, hubby goes tomorrow. Just like the 1st one, I slept terrible last night. I'm such a hypochondriac, I'm totally expecting and stressing about feeling sick from it. LoL I feel like I have a fever already and keep taking my temp, which of course is normal. :sad2::laughing:

I picked up my new glasses the other day. They are progressives and I'm not sure they're working out for me. I'm giving it until Tuesday, which will be a week since I've had them. I can see distance at the top and the reading part part on the bottom, even though its a little awkward but the middle part which is supposed to whatever is between distance and reading, I can not get into focus....I keep trying different distances and it's just not working for me. Hubby says maybe they just got the prescription wrong on that middle part.

I'll be back to catch up on what I've missed a little later. Heading to the store to stock up on some supplies in case I do feel sick later tonight and tomorrow. Expecting the worse, so it would be wonderful if nothing came of it. I only felt tired and had a headache after my 1st but I also didn't sleep well the night before so that could've been it.

Prayers that your mom is better soon.

I went from not needing glasses to progressives with my 1st prescription. I had an issue because they put the lenses on the wrong sides. I get the fun of being nearsighted AND farsighted with an astigmatism so I also have a prism built in to help my eyes focus. You may just need a minor tweaking. I wouldn't change them now although this reminds me I may be overdue for a check up. I do hope you get it worked out.

Well Disney is booked. I told my husband he had one choice - pool view or no pool view. We also made our park reservations. That is one thing I am really hoping changes. I spent years OCD on vacation, I finally learned to go with the flow and now I have to choose parks 7 months in advance.

Oh well my husband is watching baseball so I may go out for a bit or not. It looks like rain here.

Prayers said for your Mom, @AuntieM3. Not uncommon, unfortunately. :( Hopefully they can get a handle on it. I’m glad you got your shots.

That cake looks delicious, @lynxstch, definitely my bag. Love lemon, cheesecake and blueberries! (Though the ones I bought the other day spilled and scattered all over the front porch when the grocery bag broke! 😬) I did look through the recipe and it’s a little more than I’d take on. I hope you post pics and give us a review if you decide to make it!

Baseball is so great for kids. It’s been a huge part of DS’s life and he’s the better for it, for sure. I believe that background just got his foot in the door of a job he applied for. Hard work and dedication to a sport really can pay off in so many ways.

About to head into a long work weekend. Hope everyone has a nice upcoming few days. :flower1:

Glad you heard from @PiratesLifeForMe, @flyingdumbo123. Nice they’re enjoying some good weather outside. Glad everyone’s enjoying better weather and seeing family and friends again, and going out a bit more after vaccinations, etc.

Almost forgot, took this pic the other night when DS’s girlfriend made tacos for us. They are so good! Pic not great because I was first in line (mistake) and felt sort of rushed, especially by the hungry boys 🙄, so I didn’t exactly make my tacos as well as I could’ve. Even forgot the cheese! But the Spanish rice and corn with onions were delicious, too!

:grouphug:🙏 AuntieMe3 to you and your mom, my friend. I will also keep in prayer that your second doses go smoothly!

Hug, to you as well, Taz Dev, I'm glad you have Disney book. You definitely need something to look forward to

Pea, your post snuck in just ahead of mine. Always good to see you. It was good to hear from Apirateslifeforme. So glad you had a nice meal :)

Dad is safely home from errands and it's feeling warmer in here, too, so thankful :)

Looks like its going to rain here too. Temp is 76 and its very breezy. I gave in and took the cover off the central AC unit, put it in the washer on the hand wash cycle,,and it's as clean as new. Just ordered a mesh cover for it to keep the leaves, maple tree 'helicopter' things off of it for the season. That will be here on Saturday. Washed all the kitchen rugs. Moved everything big in the kitchen except the fridge, and cleaned, dusted, whatever it needed. Hand scrubbing the floor now. I cannot wait till my handyman gets that new floor down. I will be so happy to have a floor that looks and stays clean. This old one is 12 x 12 tiles of some kind of hard linoleum that someone put down when they redid the house,,and over the years they have been cracking, breaking etc. And to top it off,,they are white with gray, black, brown specks in it..so it always looks like spots of dirt to me, lol. I also just ordered new blinds for the kitchen windows. Some thoughful person put in these huge 22 x 72" windows on 2 walls,,it's nice for light coming in, but it's a pain to find blinds to fit. I bought new ones when we moved in here in 2003..so it's time for new cordless ones. Dinner is going to be herb marinated swordfish, rice and salad, if I have the energy left to do it.
@AuntieMe3--Prayers for your Mother,,and for your shot to be side effect free
@flyingdumbo127--glad your Dad made it home from Target
@tazdev3225- Laurie, I'm so glad to hear you booked a Disney trip (wish we all could!). So, did your hubby pick a pool view room or a non pool view room? lol! It will do you both good to get away, and give you something to look forward to!
@Pea-n-Me--I will post reviews and pics if and when I make the cake! I'm not a taco person, but yours look pretty yummy!

Have a nice afternoon everyone!
