@apirateslifeforme :grouphug: 's to you, and thank you for sharing your story about the funeral. I am so glad that Josh stayed with you during the calling hours. How sweet that he told someone that he 'also looked like Granpa', between that and his picture, I had a few tears in my eyes. That picture was so appropriate for him to draw . (when you said Stateline Potato Chips..wow did that trigger an old memory, I haven't heard of them in years!)

His service was in my old home town, Agawam. RIP to your FIL, prayers for your whole family, and thank your FIL for his service

Just back from Ollies and Walmart..neither were very busy. Still not much cat food on the shelves..so glad that my Chewy order is coming tomorrow. Got the few things I needed and got out.
Was sleeting lightly when I went in, and snowing lightly when I came out, but it's all stopped now..till at least Sunday!
Dinner tonite is hubby's pick..he picked Stouffer's Lasagna with salad and garlic bread..that will leave enough leftovers for another meal

Have a good afternoon

Good afternoon.

I can't get warm this afternoon. It's cold and dreary out. We backed snickerdoodles this morning. Rolled some in red sugar instead of cinnamon sugar for some and I made a plate for DD and family for Valentine's Day.

Hey! I should get started on that photo consolidation and order! I won't, but I should!
I've had the last year to work on the two photo books I want to have done and haven't started them either.
the limos (that Mom insisted upon) When they play Taps, though...OMG, that just gets me
My mother also insisted on a limo to the cemetery when my dad died. And when the Marines came into my FIL's funeral, I about lost it. Sounds like things went as well as they could. I was thinking of you Wednesday.

@apirateslifeforme Thank you for the story about your FIL's funeral. The obituary was very nice. It sounds like Josh handled things very well. The picture he drew was so sweet. I am sure you have some great stories and memories. I understand about Taps. When they played Taps at my Dad's funeral I lost it. It is very emotional.

It is a sunny day again today with temps around 25. We ran around doing errands all morning. We did some grocery shopping, got a takeout breakfast, went to Kohl's, picked up some wine, got valentine bags for the grandkid's goodies, and got gas in the one of the cars. We ordered DGD's gift on Amazon. We got her a Little people house that has sounds and furniture etc. She likes the Fisher Price play sets so she should love this one. Time to chill a bit before our walk. Supper tonight will be takeout at a local place.

Happy Friday.

It's 3 minutes to afternoon (noon) here. Wishing each of you a warm and good afternoon!

Hugs, Carol. I appreciate your Dad's service. I hope you feel warmer soon!

I was able to watch all but the last ten minutes (cable box went out) of The Color of Rain. Very touching and well done. I Googled and read about the real story behind the movie. Inspiring families.

Spectrum is scheduled to come within the next 2-3 hours. Praying this time they resolve the cable box issue for good! One thing that is cool is we can see in real time (email link) when and who from Spectrum is coming. For safety reasons, extra right now, this is a great feature! ETA, forgot to say earlier the last time a technician came, I could hear him from where I was hiding (to keep my distance) in the back of the apartment, assure Dad of the precautions he was taking including wearing shoe covers. I'd love that see that stick around post plague for when maintenance folks of any kind come in to do servicing. Dad and I have come to immediately remove shoes upon coming home and later clean with a disinfecting wipe--amazing how dirty they get even for me just going out to move my car for street sweeping.

we did tell a lot of stories about Dad. He was truly funny and we are all going to have some wonderful memories of him.

Sounds like your family had a nice send off of your FIL, I hope that brings everyone some peace in the day and weeks to come.

My running around for the day is done, and my groceries have arrived and are in my car. Husband snitched the giant bag of cat food on his way out to put out for the barn cats, but not any of the groceries to take home! Stopped at liquor store on way home, picked up some wine, and so no where to go or be until Monday morning. How utterly boring...I do have some laundry to fold... Plus the tub is due for it's 3 month empty/clean & refill so there is that to look forward to.

What's on everyone's agenda for the weekend?

Glad you're home now, Easyas :)

I'm thankful to have a hopeful Spectrum update. The technician Abel was early and probably was here close to an hour. He did a very thorough job and we have a new cable box. He determined part of the issue was from old cable wiring that runs around the hallway and into my bedroom closet at the back of the apartment. Many years ago when Dad first moved in here, he had a TV in that room. We have just one TV now in the living room (no need for two in this small space). When we ditched the second hookup, the old wiring stayed. Abel said that connection to our one TV is still needed but he updated it. The closet door closed onto part of the old wiring. Supposedly that was a factor in our connection trouble. Now, the easy solution is too not slide that closet door to hard and Dad lol put a foam-y adhesive tape piece onto that part of the wire to "protect" it should either of us forget. Prayers all is now fixed at last! I thank you all again for your prayers and support/listening throughout this mess!

@flyingdumbo127 Yippee, Mona,,I hope this really solves your Spectrum issues. With Covid,,we all rely on our phones , tv's and cable more than ever. You have had more issues with it than you should have, so hopefully you won't have anymore!

@easyas123--Glad you are home for the weekend, and with groceries and wine, you should be all set :P
Nothing is on our agenda for the weekend. They are calling for maybe more snow/ice on Sunday, and maybe more snow on Tuesday and Thursday..lets hope they are wrong. Enjoy your weekend!

@Breezy_Carol--must be the weather. I couldn't warm up this afternoon either. Finally turned an elec heater on in the living room rather than turn the thermostat higher than 72 . It took the chill out of that room, and I put on a sweater and hubby was asleep under a warm blanket so it helped!

@aprirateslifeforme First of all my condolances at the loss of your FIL. Even with all that is going on I glad that you were able to have some sort of a closure with the family and that you were able to include Josh to a certain extent.
It is so hard to know how to include our children in those things even if they are school age and we don't have to worry so much about are they going to be a disturbance to others or not.

The negative tempatures continue her though the forcast next week is calling for warmer weather. It will actually be just below freezing the first part of the week and slightly above towards the later part of the week. Of course this is not figuring in any wind chills.

While the truck started fine this morning I could definently feel the engine struggling a bit with keeping running in the cold when I was having to idle at a light. Idiotic drivers are out in force. Almost got in an accident at a round a bout coming home today. I was in the circle heading West and was just about to cross the Southbound lane of the road that comes into the circle from the North having already crossed the North bound lane when another driver decided not to yield to traffic in the circle and cut right in front of me in order to go East on the road I was on. Luckily for them I was anticipating dealing with a dim whit and was able to hit my breaks and also lucky for them my breaks work and I did not have any sliding on ice preventing me from being able to stop. Today's dimwhit's move was stupid enough to pull on roads that are bare and dry much less on the conditions we are dealing with here. I don't care if there is a trinagle of concrete between the North and South bound lanes at that intersection so it allows some room to stop for drivers who have the right away and you should be yielding to.
Then again we have idiotic dimwhits pulling the interstate is their own private race track to the point where we have had major accidents involving 4 semis and 2 pick ups in one case and a 20 vehicle accident in another with yet more lives of wrecker drivers almost being loss because some people can't slow down and move their rear ends over to the other lane.
As I told someone I know I trust my driving and I trust my truck especially since I have 4 wheel drive I don't trust the other drivers. I have also told my DH that I have 4 wheel drive not 4 wheel stop. Someone find me a bumper sticker with that on it because it would so be on the back of my truck.
I think I have most of my walmart order done for pick up tomorrow. Just waiting on 16 year old to come up and look at some heaters for the basement and decide which one will work best of the ones DH and I have narrowed down. Then I will finish and select a time. I am thinking that I am going to send DH to do the pick up tomorrow and I am going to stay home under the covers.

What's on everyone's agenda for the weekend?
No plans here. And we even decided we are exchanging nothing, not even cards for Valentine's Day, because I don't want to go to a store.

We went down to DD's house to deliver the cookies and take sleds we had here in the attic as they didn't have any. With ice being predicted starting tomorrow morning, wanted to get there now. Carter is really perfecting his crawling skills. And had to check out Tessa's Valentines from her daycare party.

Came home and made a late dinner of grillers and a vegetable, and a single serve mashed potato for DH.

@apirateslifeforme, was a beautiful send off. Hugs to your family.

Had a follow up visit with the eye doctor this morning. Then off to Kroger to pick up a grocery order. I was going to go ahead and go inside to shop but with the cold temps and all the people in the store stocking up for the next couple of days, I decided it was better to stay in my car and let them bring my groceries to me.

When I got home, I found out that Lou Lou had taken a flower bouquet out of the trash that I had thrown away and was hitting the flowers together spreading petals and dead leaves all over the family room and kitchen. I got home just in time to see DD finishing with the clean up. It must have been a sight!

The high was 29 today. We've had some lake effect flurries on and off today. That's a new thing for us. We're expecting snow on Monday. We may get above freezing next Friday, The forecast changes hourly sometimes. We have cold temperatures every winter but single digits is not the norm. And the cold has reached down to Houston and San Antonio.

This is what has been circulating around Facebook, thought I would share it with you. :cold:

Good morning all. Light dusting (very light) of snow outside. Temp is 27 and they say that will be our high for the day. West of us could get freezing rain -didn't think you were supposed to get it @Breezy_Carol? They say more wintry mix on Tuesday and possibly 3-5" of snow Thursday before changing to freezing rain. I don't like snow much, but I would rather that than freezing rain!

I had to lol at your post @Kirby. I could just picture Lou Lou and the flowers, and the mess it must have made. Yippee that your daughter was cleaning it up!

No plans for the day. Just going to work on puzzle, do beauty treatment later, and change out the bed linens. We are doing a very low key Valentine's Day also. Since hubby hasn't been inside a store in 1 1/4 years, he doesn't buy cards, he makes them for me. I got him a card and a box of chocolate covered cherries (his favorite). He told me to buy myself a box of chocolates, but I didn't feel like chocolate candy. Got myself a pkg of Nabisco Marshmallow Pinwheel cookies instead, and a new pair of sneakers, lol

Have a nice Saturday everyone..stay safe if you are in the freezing rain zone! Just walked down the driveway to get the paper out of the box,,and there is a light freezing rain falling..making the roads slick quickly :( And it was supposed to miss us !

Morning everyone.

FlyingDumbo that's great that your cable issues may be fixed. When I lose Cable I lose my internet too and that is really frustrating.

Lynxstch It is cold here and we are on the side of the line getting the freezing rain. I am so over this winter. This time last year I was preparing to head to Disney World, how I wish I was going again.

Not much on my agenda today. Need to do a second coat of paint on the kitchen walls. Then I just have the ceiling and woodwork. I am debating doing the ceiling today or tomorrow since I have a few days before we start the demo in full scale. Hopefully by the beginning of March we will be moving onto the rest of the downstairs. That is more work on my end with painting and stripping ceilings. My grandson is replacing the one long wall and the floors. We are also adding a ceiling fan with lights to the living room. 38 years in this house and I have wanted to do it all of those years. My house does not get very bright and I chose dark colors for the walls last time we painted. Huge mistake, I am going to a very light gray like the kitchen. I love that paint and I joked with my husband we are now living in Scotland or Outlander. The paint color is called Inverness.

Pizza tonight and I may get a salad mix before the icy weather hits to go with it. My husband is treating me to our favorite Hibachi place for dinner tomorrow. We order to go because I will not let him out in public like that. He is high risk and the vaccine is not easy to get in Philly. My SIL spent 9 hours the other day trying to get appointments for my 80+ year old parents who are both in the high risk category on top of their age.

Do any of you have exciting plans for Valentines Day?

Have a quiet and warm day those of you in the cold.

Good morning Quackers.

Dreary and cold. This weather is getting old.

-didn't think you were supposed to get it @Breezy_Carol?
Unfortunately they are calling for mixed precipitation with 1/10 inch of ice. Where DS is (Calvert County) they are calling for 1/4 inch of ice. His home is surrounded by trees so I hope he doesn't have a problem.

@tazdev3225, that is a shame that it is so difficult to get an appointment. We consider ourselves lucky how easy it was with our health department.
