Beautiful day here. Will go for a hike after lunch, if I can turn off the news.

This morning went to the fair grounds to pick up the 40 pounds of chicken I ordered. They sell by the truckload and it is a fundraiser for the county fair that didn't happen. Got some in the spring and it was good. Sharing with DD. Then went to church to do altar guild duties. Several quick stops on the way home.

Morning, All.

DGD is scheduled to take a test today for access to a variety of academic scholarships so made her a special breakfast of cod, ackee, okras and johnnie cakes. Here’s hoping the meal gives her the opportunity to use all her “little grey cells“ productively.

May today go just as All wish wherever you are.

Good luck to DGD.

Three weeks today I've stuck with my workout classes at local gym - so far I'm still dragging my fat butt outta bed early to head in!

Good for you. I really need to start doing something. I have my dang treadmill just sitting collecting dust, I really need to start using it. I've lost 5 lbs in the last couple weeks just watching my portions and not snacking as much. I know if I start moving, it will help get rid of the 20 lbs I've gained this year. 🤦‍♀️

Its actually raining here right now. We haven't had rain, not even a sprinkle, since March. I love it. DD had to work this morning so it's just the dogs, hubby and I relaxing under a blanket on the couch. I think I'll try to clean my room today and go through some clothes...see what needs to go and what I need for the cool weather that looks like it here to stay. :lovestruc

Its another gorgeous sunny day, currently 70 heading for at least 77. We'll take it for at least another few days. Just back from doing errands and grocery shopping. Walmart was busy , but not packed. This one made me laugh. Big open/no top freezer case in the meat department. Giant sign saying $.68 a lb..there were exactly TWO turkeys in the case! Aldi's had a lot more Butterballs today for $.87 a lb. From 12 -18 or so lbs. Bath and Body Works sent me coupons this week. One for a free (up to $14.50) product with any purchase. They have Wallflower refills on sale today and tomorrow for $3.25. The line was insane. We don't have a big store to start with , and it's inside the mall. I waited in line for at least 20 min. When I came out..that line was now outside the store, across the mall and 1/2 way down the hallway towards the movie theater. People were taking advantage of coupons and sales I guess. Going to wash the car after lunch, then maybe take a nap, maybe not. Have a nice Saturday everyone!

Ohh...I hope I get some. I was just saying to my boss they haven't been having some of their sales like they usually do. Last year by this time, I had already bought regular size lotions for $2.95 and the little mini size for $1.95. Our store in the mall is always crazy crowded during the holidays, we just got a stand alone store in an outdoor shopping center right before Covid but its tiny so I can imagine it doesn't hold a lot of people. I've been buying hand soaps online for the last couple months so I'll probably just do that for Christmas gifts. At least I don't have to buy as many this year as I usually do.

Hello, friends...long time, no post ;)

@AuntieMe3, prayers to your cousin (and baby!) and friend!

@Snowysmom, still praying for Jasper, too.

It's an unusually nice day here, in the 70s. We may hit a record. Josh had his last soccer game this morning, postponed from last week. He got a trophy at the end...DH and I are not into the "everyone gets a trophy" trend, but we're okay with it for 4- and 5-year-olds. Josh has been playing outside all day with the 9-year-old girl next door.

Maybe that can be a QOTD--what traditions do you or you and your family do for Thanksgiving and Christmas (or Hannukah or Kwaanza, whatever you celebrate), and what do you think we might all be able to do to make them special this year, despite Covid?
So for Thanksgiving, we typically go to my SIL's house. Her partner is a farmer, and they live on his family's land - his parents live up the road from them, and his brother and his family live across the street from the parents. Among the animals that they raise are turkeys, so we go to their house for a fresh HUGE turkey. All of our families are there - so that's my SIL, her partner, my in-laws, my BIL and his family, SIL's partner's parents and brother and family, our other SIL's parents, her sister, and the sister's daughter and partner. And us and my mom. 24 people. We take up 3 rooms elbow-to-elbow at the table. Everyone brings something to the meal - my mom makes a couple of pans of Bell's stuffing, which my BIL and SIL's partner fight over - so we'll be making extra this year and probably delivering some to everyone!

Christmas has been at our house since Josh was a baby. It's us, my mom, my in-laws, and again, my BIL and his family, my SIL and her partner, and our other SIL's entire family. It ends up being 17 people in the house and our living room is so crowded that Josh and I usually sit in the living room doorway! My mother cooks a huge meal - she refuses to do potluck, she insists on making everything herself so that it "goes together." Last year we had a taco bar and that went over quite well.

In the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we try to do lots of holiday-related experiences, most of which won't be happening this year. We visit the Festival of Trees that our women's club holds, to benefit the Food Shelf. Josh enjoys putting his tickets in for the toy-themed trees, and DH and I go for the trees with money, lottery tickets, and gift cards (and I'll usually throw in a ticket or 2 for the wreaths that come with a signed piece of New England Patriots memorabilia). Last year we also discovered the Shriners' "FEZ-tival of Trees," so we did that as well. We go to the Bright Lights at Forest Park, a drive-thru light display, and usually stop for the 3 kiddie rides and walk through the gift shop. Some friends of ours join us for Winterfest at the CT Trolley Museum. We walk around the museum part first, where they have all kinds of trees and they've decorated the non-running trolley cars with lights. Then we go outside for the unlimited trolley rides through the Tunnel of Lights; our final ride of the night is always on the open-air trolley car (because it's COLD!!!). We like the Torchlight Parade in our town, typically a short parade with all the town fire trucks decorated with lights, and Santa arrives on his sled at the end, but due to weather it's been canceled the past 2 years.

I've been doing photo cards on Shutterfly since Josh was born. I usually do a Christmas-themed photo of him on the front, then on the opposite side, I include a birthday photo and his school photo. I also have been getting free ornaments from Shutterfly each year; on one side I use the Christmas photo and on the other, a birthday photo with his age showing, and I just print "Joshua" and the year on it. Josh also gets an advent calendar, starting 2 years ago. The first one was just a Paw Patrol one with a piece of chocolate every day, but last year we got him the Hot Wheels one and this year we got him a Lego City one. On Christmas Eve, we put out a (very decadent!) snack for Santa - not just cookies and milk - and carrots for the reindeer, and because our fireplace is kind of blocked off, we hang a special "Santa Key" on our front door (which we then leave on the table with Santa's empty cup and plate).

DH and I haven't gone out for NYE for years. We typically get Chinese food and watch the Twilight Zone marathon on TV. We can't make it to midnight.

How lovely is your weather, Lynxstch, enjoy! :)

AuntieMe3, I hope you get your lotion! :)

I love the Santa key idea, Apirateslifeforme, very clever! We have neither a fireplace or a mantel! Usually hang stockings on a closet door knob. Not too festive but it works. :( Hug, I'm sorry most of your fun Christmas festivals may not happen this year.

Hug to all and hope you are keeping cozy this afternoon!

@apirateslifeforme , Hi! Just wait until Josh is grown up and you have to figure out what to do with all the trophies. And you reminded me, something we do at Christmas that I think we will be able to do this year, is go to Herr's Potato Chip factory. They put lights in all of their trees and there is a nice free drive-through light display.

DH and I had a nice 2.5 mile walk in the woods. We are so lucky to have the Fair Hill NRMA so close to us. He is out picking up carry out now.

Palm trees.....we all light up Palm trees....either by spot light or hired workers to string lights. Yard lights are the most common tradition, I have never seen so many yards with Christmas lights...many are starting now...color to see in the desert night in the retirement community/snowbird community/impoverished family community

Feelling pretty spiffy today. My house is clean (ok, almost..I still have to vacuum and put up 2 loads of laundry, but hey, the rest is done...) Discovered a new silvery white streak in my 'do, which makes me happy...I like 'em! I'm ready to go silver all the way, I think. Did some online shopping for Christmas (found some really good deals on Amazon and Walmart). Played Animal Crossing for a little bit, then WoW, and now I'm back to Everquest 2. Can't settle myself down, lol.

DH and I opened a bottle of Stella Rosa Moscato Rose sparkling wine 🍾 this morning (it's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?😉 ), and then a 2nd bottle just a bit ago. LOL DH ordered pizza for lunch/dinner, said he didn't want me in the kitchen playing with knives in my condition. Feeling pretty giggly. :rotfl: I've got black cherry chocolate chip 🍨 for dessert. I'm probably going to be paying for it tomorrow, but today....today is worth it.

I'm off to watch some....Netflix or Hulu or D+ or Amazon Prime shows (or one of the bajillion shows I have on the DVR....). And to drink more champange. :teeth:

Welcome, Chickapin Parterre :) As always so nice to see extra posts :)

I watched A Bramble House Christmas. Get gets a thumbs down from me which is sad because the setting was beautiful! The story would have been (to me) very touching had the lead actor been honest throughout. I don't do intentional especially deception! At least at the end, to his credit he apologized as did his sister who played a role in it. I would have loved getting to meet the elderly man Mr. Conrad who was cared for by the lead actress until he died. I also would have enjoyed seeing "what happened next" in the lives of the characters. Does anyone know whether this movie ever had a sequel? I know some Christmas movies do. Thanks :)

Windy and rainy off and on all day, even some thunder and lightening in the afternoon. We had some wood left over from last year stacked in the garage so Hubby made our first fire of the season tonight and ordered more wood to be delivered next week.:lovestruc

I don't think there is a sequel. I didn't really care for that movie much.

Good Sunday morning everyone! Sunny and bright out there, going into the mid 70's again today. Might put up the outside lights while it's so nice out. Hubby is on 'vacation' for the next 2 weeks, wanna bet he still gets calls and emails from work? Since he's been working from home since March, it won't be too much different having him on vacation, other than I will get nothing done because he will need this, need that, etc..lol! Then he goes back to working from home for 2 weeks, and then it's retirement day. Coincidentally, they sent him an invitation to the annual "awards and recognition' thing. Its on his last day of 'work'. Usually its a dinner, this time it's a luncheon. But with his compromised immune system, I am thinking we won't be attending anyhow. They said they want to recognize him for his 14 year dedication to the business..which is odd, cause there is no '14' year award, lol. It's 5,10,15,20,25,etc...but he thinks they added him because he's retiring. They are having it at the local country club, but with covid cases on the rise, it's not something I think we should be going to. He was the on call person for the final time this week, ending tomorrow morning, and yesterday he got 2 calls of positive testing employees, and 1 positive testing consumer..so things are not going so well as far as covid around here!

Have a lovely Blessed Sunday everyone, enjoy the nice weather if you are having it, it won't last too much longer here!

I was just stopping in to report that I finally remembered some other shows that we streamed earlier this year (from our QOTD about a week or two ago)...we also watched Tales From the Loop (well done, but kind of mind-bending and it kind of made me feel sad), Glitch, and The Man in the High Castle. That last one was VERY good, but hard to stomach. I thought it was just an "alternate history" show, but it's actually sci-fi. Very well done.

And we just had an earthquake here in north central CT! I was sitting on the sofa and literally shook from side to side for several seconds (someone on the forum said that it lasted 20 seconds in the next town over). My mom was upstairs sitting on her bed and she felt it. Unfortunately, DH was out in the garage and Josh was having a meltdown in the living room, and neither of them noticed. There are posts coming in from all over the area on our town forum - the towns around us, Coventry, Cromwell, Storrs, East Hartford, then up into MA and even some from RI. There was a 4.2 magnitude quake in Bliss Corner, MA, which is on the coastline near the RI border. Josh is now upset that he didn't notice it.

I know what you mean about the trophies! DH has a whole box full of his, collecting dust and dirt out in the garage. We really don't have any place to put them all. I've seen it suggested to pull the personalized plates off to keep, then see if a trophy or memorabilia dealer would take the actual trophy itself. We have a trophy supplier here in town, but DH isn't ready to let them go yet. I have 2 ballet trophies and one for softball, none of which I care about - ballet was only for perfect attendance and softball was for participation. I'd like to let those go.

We have the Herr's Potato Chip Factory on our bucket list! When we do our PA trip someday, we will visit!

Wow on the earthquake!!

I'm in southeastern Massachusetts, but I was at the grocery store, and didn't feel a thing.

ETA - Just checked with DH. He said he did feel it, but didn't realize what it was. He was in the basement den, and came up to investigate, but found nothing wrong. He thought maybe a really big truck had just gone by or a plane had just flown low overhead.

Herr's Potato Chip Factory

that was a common field trip from school for both my boys! I’m guessing it still is around here!

I realize this sounds odd, because they are a source for such destruction- but I e always wondered what a earthquake would feel like. We had a small one here in MD few years ago but I was driving and totally missed it.
Glad you got the experience but not destruction!
Watering trees today, once take gets filled up. Takes it a while, then it takes me about a hour to drive the line& water. But, this is last time for year, so after this I can stow tank away in barn along with finish mower, bush hogs and zero turn! All done with yard stuff.
I hope/think!!!!
Gorgeous day today-

Good Morning, everyone from cool CA!

AuntieMe3, that fire looks cozy. I hope you and your DH enjoyed it last night. The movie was odd. I wanted to like it, I thought it had promise but fell flat, oh well.

Lynxstch, much Congratulations to your husband! Hug, It doesn'r sound this would be the safest year for him (or you) to be attending a luncheon like that. I would certainly hope one day post plague, his company would put together a celebration!

Wow indeed, Apirateslifeforme. I didn't even realize CT really got earthquakes. So glad it wasn't anything more, still scary indeed! I am not a quake fan, no thanks!

Easyas123, especially after the 1994 earthquake, I'd happily have no quake experiences! I can understand someone having never experienced one (trust me you want to keep it that way) being curious.

Sunday Blessings to all! :)
