Thank you all for the anniversary wishes! It's just an ordinary Thursday night for us, however...Josh had his gymnastics class, then we got him to bed and now we're sitting here watching Haven. But for this weekend, we already have tickets to see Nightmare Before Christmas at our now-open movie theatre ("Comeback Classics," $5 for adults and $3 for kids. Josh is excited) and then maybe we'll order Chinese. That's as much celebrating as we can handle.
Happy 9th Anniversary to you and your DH, Apirateslifeforme! I also love the leaf suncatchers. How does that work? I mean do you iron leaves on and through wax paper?
First put a towel down on the ironing board, then lay a piece of wax paper over it. Arrange your leaves the way you'd like (I also trim the stems so they don't get in the way). Lay another sheet of wax paper over that, cover it with a second towel (gently), then iron the whole thing. Make sure the iron is very hot and keep going until you don't hear the paper crinkling anymore. You can also crush crayons and put some of the pieces in between the wax papers, too. I did that with a previous year's batch - unfortunately, a crayon that looked purple was actually a bright berry pink. Not exactly autumn-colored...
A not too exciting day. Moved two desks from DH's office to home. Took another hike in nature. I got a summons for jury duty and my anxiety was kicking in so I had to get outside.
DS had the event he was supposed to work in NC cancelled so now he is flying to Detroit.
I don't think it was me who donated food.
@apirateslifeforme, Happy Anniversary!
These leaf suncatchers are cool. Tell Josh "Good Job!"
This made me laugh. Neither DH or I could eat at our reception, either nerves or visiting tables. The first night at the hotel by the airport, we were looking for snack vending machines because we were so hungry.
Going to watch some of the Biden town hall and DH will watch Trump, just so we can tell the other to change the channel. We are both on the same page for this election and have already voted.
I'm sorry about your jury duty summons. I dread getting the mail every single day because of it. I got called in the summer of 1993; I was 19 and had just voted for the first time in the previous year's election. I got called again 4 more times - 5 times total - in 7 years. I've had to go every time as well. I have a degree in criminal justice, so I'm seen as "on the side of the police/law enforcement," I have an uncle who used to be a police officer and who at the time held public office, I used to work with the police department as it is, so needless to say, I am not wanted on a jury and I usually get disqualified. But there is nowhere on the summons return form to respond with that, so I have to go and explain it when I get there. And when you get disqualified, your service then doesn't count, so you potentially could get called again the following month and you'd have to go back and explain it all over again...
I got called in August 2018 and again in August 2019. These times I was able to go online and respond that I am a SAHM of a young child, and they usually will dismiss you for that. Just have to give them Josh's birthdate and that's the end of it. I'm debating on serving the next time I get called, though, just so I can get a 3-year deferral. Of course, if I do that, I'm "wasting the court's time" since I have a young child and can't sit for a jury trial, so I might get in trouble for that. You just can't win.
We were lucky with our wedding reception, we actually got to eat. It was a very small wedding; with us, only 55 people. Only 5 tables to visit. We tried to go around, but almost everyone was dancing! At the final 2 tables, only 2 people were left at one of them and the other was empty. We either "cut a cupcake" or our photographer took us outside for photos at that point anyway. It was a lovely day...but early; I remember getting back home around 5:30 that evening, still in gown and tux, unloading our car (crammed full of gifts) with our neighbors coming out on their decks to congratulate us. By 7 p.m., DH was snoozing in his chair while I was on FB, changing my name on my profile
