Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

@easyas123, I sent you a message with details. I am going to a state run test site in New Castle at a church. DD has done this type of test several times since March. Even the baby was tested once. And the Middletown Walgreen's could be busy with flu shots too. DD went there for hers and said it was busy with the over 65 crowd, like me. LOL

Speaking of the baby, who is now 5 months old, DD put him in the crib in the nursery last night because he was getting too big for the bassinette. Carter slept fine. DD had trouble with her baby growing up.

The video ad is extra annoying this morning! It just keeps popping up! :P I'm using Edge as a browser.

Good to see you B&B!

Prayers all who are getting tested for the plague have an easy experience and negative for plague result!

The oddest Jury Duty summons I have ever had was once when I was a very young student living in the dorms in rural Northern, CA. I was summoned somehow to a courthouse in Oakland a good 5 hours away! At the time I did not have a car on campus either. Thankfully a local older adult friend helped get me out of that! There is a pretty good Touched by an Angel episode about Jury Duty called Reasonable Doubt, that I have not watched in years. Might be time to check it out!

Well, so much for COVID test. It was cancelled due to inclement weather. Because the testing is outside and it is raining, it was cancelled. Rescheduled for tomorrow at a different location.

But I did get an email that my absentee ballot was received but the board of elections. I can follow when it is counted.

@Breezy_Carol I got an email that my absentee ballot was received also...2 days after I mailed it. So that's out of the way. We had some rain this morning, currently have sun and the temp is up to 63. Debating whether or not to light the wood stove for tonite, but leaning to not lighting it. If it's cool, we can just turn on an electric heater in the morning. I hate starting the wood stove before the end of Oct..and I was hoping that the heating company would call this week and say the units are in and that they would be installling them soon. Invoice says will be installed in October, and since Monday will be the 19'th, they better get a move on, lol
Have a nice Friday evening everyone!

Yes on the annoying ads here too. :(

And yes on all different levels of "normal" jury duty (in no particular order):
- received card, had to call the day before, didn't have to report
- received card, did have to report, but everyone dismissed at noon
- received card, reported, interviewed, but rejected by one side or the other
- received card, reported, let off because of probable length of trial vs. other responsibilities
- received card, reported, served on a trial

(Never, thankfully, got one for grand jury! - Fingers crossed it stays that way. 🤞)

Thread slipping almost all the way down the page is not allowed! So nice to see a lot of new posts :) Prayers all of you are enjoying a nice Friday and will have a great weekend, too.

Friday Gratitude:

A nice phone call with a friend who recently moved out of the area. So nice to catch up.
Texts/messages from other friends
As always on Fridays, clean laundry!

@Bianca and Bernard You are my new hero! Great story! :lmao: (But scary!) Here’s to donuts!

@apirateslifeforme Glad you had a nice Anniversary! Nice time of year!

@PollyannaMom Love the pics, looks very familiar! :goodvibes

I’ve been called for Jury Duty several times but only went to the courthouse twice, and left by noon. Not bad. I had one for this past summer but it was cancelled. Those were nothing, though, compared to a DUI case I was involved with as a witness. I showed up in court four times only to have the defendant not show up or other ongoing problems. So on the fifth time, I slept in - only to get a call from someone at the courthouse call me to ask where I was. Wound up on the witness stand that day, finally. Interesting experience. Repeat offender, hit a lady with a baby in the car, who thankfully were ok, and could’ve hit my husband and son, who were in the next car, though they were unaware. I happened to be following them but had stopped at a red light and watched in horror as things transpired.

Speaking of covid swabs I had to send one on someone this week who had a nasogastric tube, which at first had me scratching my head a little bit. But I went in the other nostril and it was fine. I have never done an oral swab so not sure how that’s done. Had a challenging week this week work-wise. Glad to be off now, and looking forward to tonight. Celebrating the kids’ bday with drinks around the fire pit followed by a dinner at home rather than going out. It should be easier and more relaxing. (Not going to say cheaper because I think I spent as much in the grocery store as I would’ve at a restaurant!) Having steak tips marinated in home-made teriyaki with rice pilaf, green beans and salad with Italian bread. DH picked up a cake at a bakery we like so we can spend the day straightening up and cleaning today rather than baking and dealing with that mess. I spent two hours last night paying bills, straightening up stuff that had accumulated on my table and going through mail. Today mainly have to do bathrooms and maybe outside a little bit, just some plants that have died from the frost and that sort of thing. Hopefully the weather is decent for an outside fire tonight. Cool is ok, but hopefully no rain!

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Beautiful day here. Was at least outside a little mowing the front yard.

DS texted yesterday that he was supposed to fly home this morning but didn't want to make plans until it actually happened. Got a text this morning that he was at the airport in Detroit and had his luggage checked to DC. So, the birthday celebration from 2 weeks ago is happening tomorrow. Some of the things I bought are still ok, like rice and tortillas, but I need to shop again, tonight. Went out to buy some hard cider from a local cidery. We are all bringing local beer or cider and doing a tasting. Cake is baked and ready to be frosted.

COVID test today was a breeze. Less that 10 minutes from when we arrived to when we left.

Better get back to work but wanted to say HI!

QOTD 10/17: What was/were the coolest birthday cake(s) you ever had?

The ones I remember best were:
  • A cat made by my aunt. She just cut a sheet cake and rearranged the pieces before frosting it, but she covered it in coconut for "fur" and made whiskers and a collar out of licorice, and I just loved it!
  • One of those Barbie doll ones, where the cake is like a dome, and you stick the doll in the top and frost the cake as her skirt. My mom made that one, endless piping bag stars and all! :)
  • A giant chocolate chip cookie. This one was store-bought, but they were trendy at the time, I was 13, and it was exactly what I wanted!

QOTD..not very cool, but it was always my favorite cake. My Mom would bake me a pink lemonade cake, with pink lemonade frosting, and those silver dragee things on it every year. When I spotted pink lemonade cake mix not long ago, I bought it and made it, but somehow it just didn't taste the way it did when I was a kid, lol

Did grocery shopping this morning, Walmart is back to not counting people, and people are piling against one another at the registers :(

We also stopped and bought the laminate floor for the kitchen. Our wood guy is going to install it for us, but we got it while it was on sale, they had a good selection, and a coupon off on top of it. Still waiting to hear from the heating company, luckily it only got to 36 last nite, so I turned 2 elec heaters on this morning and it took the chill out of the house. Have a great Saturday everyone!

So glad your Covid test went quick and easily, Carol. Prayers it is negative! Glad you get to have a fun birthday celebration tomorrow.

What a fun QOTD indeed, PollyannaMom :) That was sweet of your Aunt! A chocolate chip cookie cake sounds delightful. I do remember years ago Mrs. Fields had these mini chocolate cookies that were semi rounded at the top and indented enough to put a frosting piece in the space. Those were so good. I preferred regular size chocolate chip cookies from maybe Original Cookie Company? I for some reason think either "America" or possibly even "SF" were part of the name?

Aww, so nice to read another positive cake memory from childhood, Lynxstch! :( about Wal-Mart. Enjoy your new laminate flooring when it's installed :)

QOTD 10/17: What was/were the coolest birthday cake(s) you ever had?

The birthday cake that meant the most to me was the one a friend at church made me as a complete surprise 4 years ago at least now. I mentioned it on here before. She used ice cream sandwiches, mint cookies n cream ice cream, and Hershey syrup! It was scrumptious. I have a related sweet memory of later that evening my old choir director who was/is a dear friend enjoying some leftovers of this cake!

As a kid, I loved Baskin and Robbins ice cream cakes (minus the cake)!

Good morning all. We need some of our missing family on here to start checking in so we don't worry about them! We were on page 2 this morning, so bumping it up.
We were at a balmy 33 degrees this morning..brrr! Going to be mid 60's and another beautiful Fall day. Got laundry done, and stripped and remade the bed already. Got a roast and veggies ready for the crockpot for dinner tonite, and another small crockpot ready for hubby to make himself some split pea soup for his lunches.
This made me think of a QOTD if anyone wants to answer. What is/are your favorite soups? Do you like them to be homemade or just canned?
Mine would be New England Clam Chowder made from scratch. I like to make it a few times during the cold winter months. That just reminded me to add those things to my grocery list so I can have them on hand when I feel like making it. Campbells Chunky will do in a pinch, but I don't like the Manhattan Style! If I have a cold, or aren't feeling well, Knorr (used to be Mrs Grass) chicken noodle soups in the little boxes with the little ball of flavor in it are my go to.

Have a Blessed Sunday all!

Good morning.

DH and I got out of the house early for us these days. First stop, he needed to get something notarized having to do with his mother's estate. Then to the county administration building to turn in our ballots.

After a stop at the post office, I am home and he has gone to office to break down computers to bring them home.

Heard from DS this morning. We were trying to reschedule his and DIL's birthday celebration to this Sunday. Now he has to travel for work. During the campaign season in 2016, there was a lot of travel for the 18 months before the election. This year it is just getting under way. He is off to NC this morning and thinks he'll be going other places before he gets home. In 2012, he was gone for a month at a time, campaign rally to campaign rally. At least only 3 weeks left before the election.

QOTD: Do you do your nails? If so, do you do them yourself, or do you have them done? What do you usually wear on them? We can talk fingernails, toenails, or both!! 💅

When I was working I had to keep finger nails short so I didn't scratch my patients. I only got manicures for special occasions, like the kids' weddings. I would mess up the polish before I even got home. Just wasn't worth it.

Pedicures are another story. I started 5+ years ago to get pedicures about once a month in the summer during sandal season. Would also get them to pamper myself on my birthday or before a cruise. Haven't been since last summer and miss them.

I like OPI also. My favorite color is "I'm Not Really a Waitress".

@gwynne , sorry to hear about your son's job.

And just to bring a smile to your face. From Monday, DGS finger painting a pumpkin.
