Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good morning.

DH and I got out of the house early for us these days. First stop, he needed to get something notarized having to do with his mother's estate. Then to the county administration building to turn in our ballots.

After a stop at the post office, I am home and he has gone to office to break down computers to bring them home.

Heard from DS this morning. We were trying to reschedule his and DIL's birthday celebration to this Sunday. Now he has to travel for work. During the campaign season in 2016, there was a lot of travel for the 18 months before the election. This year it is just getting under way. He is off to NC this morning and thinks he'll be going other places before he gets home. In 2012, he was gone for a month at a time, campaign rally to campaign rally. At least only 3 weeks left before the election.

QOTD: Do you do your nails? If so, do you do them yourself, or do you have them done? What do you usually wear on them? We can talk fingernails, toenails, or both!! 💅

When I was working I had to keep finger nails short so I didn't scratch my patients. I only got manicures for special occasions, like the kids' weddings. I would mess up the polish before I even got home. Just wasn't worth it.

Pedicures are another story. I started 5+ years ago to get pedicures about once a month in the summer during sandal season. Would also get them to pamper myself on my birthday or before a cruise. Haven't been since last summer and miss them.

I think OPI nail color names are pretty amusing, my favorite is Aphrodite's Pink Nightie.
I like OPI also. My favorite color is "I'm Not Really a Waitress".

@gwynne , sorry to hear about your son's job.

And just to bring a smile to your face. From Monday, DGS finger painting a pumpkin.

Good Morning Dis Family!

Carol your DGS is precious! :)

Hug and prayer, Gwynne, that your son finds a new job that he's happy with. I am glad he has gotten to work with such a great group it sounds like.

I'm not a nail painter. I have enjoyed reading the replies and thank you Pea for asking the QOTD, we needed one for sure!

Dad dropped off our voting ballots yesterday!

Happy Wednesday All!

Your son has popped up in my thoughts a time or two over the past 2 weeks, hope he is (and can stay) well and the next few weeks goes by quickly and safely for him.
Heck, I hope it goes by quickly for all of us!

Beautiful day here, at least it looks it from inside my office and my car, where I've spent the first 5 hours of the working day. I'm hosting a training session for some employees and I've had to split it into two sessions, one this Friday, one the next. I'm trying to juggle not to many people (social distance and all that happy stuff) and carving a spot out big enough to distance 15 or 16 men plus a trainer and his equipment. I've settled on the shop - less than cozy, but everyone will have their space at least. So I've been working on that, getting ready for those guys.
A pre-trial conference I had in Annapolis tomorrow has been postponed, so that is off my agenda as well - I'm not sorry about it.
Not sure what dinner will consist of for me, myself & I this evening. Oh! speaking of dinner, the chickens started laying eggs! One day last week my son started getting one per day, yesterday he got three in one day. We are about to be knee deep in eggs I'm thinking. They built a laying area for the chickens that allows the egg to carefully roll away from the nest in a separate area. Maybe that is what I'll have -

I have a flu shot scheduled on Saturday, my very first ever flu shot. I may or may not have rescheduled it once already - I hate getting shots.

Carol your DGS is precious! :)
Thanks. We think so.

@easyas123, thanks for thinking of my son. Luckily his first event is with Kamala Harris. Was talking to DD and we agree this is probably saver than the White House.

And your comment about flu shots made me think if my PCP . I was getting some shot, maybe TDaP, and he didn't like giving shots because he didn't like getting them. Flu shot isn't bad at all and you are good to get one.

@Breezy_Carol aww that picture made me smile..what a cutie!
Beautiful day here, sunny , 73, nice breeze. We went to the office this morning, the local food bank once again donated enough food for all of the consumers houses, and for all employees. The boxes were FULL! Gallon of milk, 6 delicious apples, 6 potatoes, giant head of cabbage, quart of egg beaters, quart of half and half, pkg of processed american cheese slices, pkg of chicken drumsticks, 2 pints of sour cream..quite a haul! They had so many left over, that they said to take 2..so we gave one to my sister in law and her husband..hey , free food is free food! I just finished 3/4 of the lawn, just have to mow the back. I might get away with one more time just to mulch leaves..and I cleaned the gutters again. Walnut tree is now empty, maple tree about 1/2 emtpy of leaves. Husband officially gave his boss his 'last day of work' before retiring as Fri Dec 4. Boss wasn't too happy, but she knew it was coming, so it wasn't a total surprise! I hope everyone has a nice afternoon!

Hug. Easyas123, prayers your flu shot goes easily and smoothly! My Dad got his (I think first ever) flu shot today. He also got the high dose one. So far, so good, thank God! I just want to put out there as a friendly reminder because I wish I had known this as a kid and much earlier in life than I did, that there are both topical creams and sprays to prevent routine shots and bloodwork from being painful.

Summery again here. Hopefully cooler next week!

Wednesday Gratitude so far:

So grateful last night to enjoy a long talk with a close friend.
Truly and sincerely always, each of you!
Again that Dad seems A-okay :)

Your DGS is soo cute.

I feel the same way about shots but this year my flu shot was nothing....I didn't feel anything, which was awesome. Hope you have the same experience.

Thats great you got all that donated food. A neighbor in our neighborhood works at her churches weekly food distribution, she brings my parents boxes that are left at the end of the distribution. Every week, they get a lot of stuff from her and they end up being able to sharewith some friends and us too. Also congrats to your hubby on his retirement date. I'm not retiring but I'm planning on leaving my job at the end of the year. I still haven't worked up the courage to tell my boss my last day.

@flyingdumbo127 this heat really needs to go away. The weekend was so nice and boom...back up to high temps again. It was 88° at 7:30 last night. :sad2:

Worked half day today and then went to Target to pick up some stuff for my nephews. My parents are going up to visit this weekend and I wanted to send some Halloween treats for them. I actually found some small containers of Clorox wipes...limit 1, of course, but I picked one up for work. We've been using generic and they are terrible. Oh...and I got a pumpkin. 👍

I finished watching Schitts Creek this afternoon and moved onto rewatching The West Wing. The fictional politics will get me through the next couple weeks of real politics. :scared:

Morning 😃😊🙂

Nails - I treat myself to a pedicure 2-3 times a year, just getting smooth heals feels nice and the fun OPI polish , sparkles of course, brightens my day.
I don’t get manicures, because I get monthly neck massages to treat my TMJ.
On the radio, I keep hearing a commercial for Vick’s soothing baths. So on my next shopping trip going to pick that up or do they still make Calgon bath salts ?

Good morning all..thank you @sparkle78 for rescuing the thread from near the bottom of the page. I haven't seen a commercial for Vick's soothing baths, sounds like it might be good when you have a cold. I never bought Calgon bath salts so I can't help you with that one. As for the QOTD, I used to get my nails done professionally once every 4 weeks, but yardwork, gardening, and housework was destroying them. So I do them myself once in awhile. And I love OPI nail color, it's the one that works best for me, and I love the names they come up with !

Its a cool 42 out now, but will be 78 later. Then only in the 50's the next 2 days :( I just took the bedroom ac unit out and cleaned it and stored it in the basement. With the new system coming, we shouldn't need our window ones anymore, but keeping them, just in case. Washed the bedroom windows, and figured its a good a day as any to entirely fall clean the bedroom. That will be 2 rooms totally done! Have a great Thursday everyone!

Cool morning right now, heat coming soon! Most grateful for all and each of you, too :) I would love some consistently cooler weather :) Thankful to God Dad still seems fine from the flu shot. I slept much better last night, too.

Sparkle, I am not familiar with bath salts (don't take baths plus use unscented/soap free body wash). I do remember from way back when the old "Calgon take me a way" commercials! I never tried it but hope if you are anyone else here does (or something similar) it will indeed help provide much relaxation :)

Lynxstch, you are a dynamo! Prayers your new heating and cooling system work great!

Happy Thursday, everyone! :)

I don't know about bath bombs to much, but my sons girlfriend was telling me about some hot chocolate bombs she ordered from a local bakery last night. Theory is you put the (I'm assuming) ball/bomb in bottom of mug and add hot milk. I gather it's some sort of compressed chocolate, and they come in several flavors.
It's been a long time since I've had hot chocolate...
While in Disney Springs for the day last week we did pick up a three pack of instant ciders, we may have to break those out this weekend as it's promising to be a bit chilly!

Josh only has 3 online meetings on Wednesdays, but for some reason that's one of our busiest days! He enjoyed his music assignment, as one of the videos she sent was to keep time to the Addams Family theme song (which we are all VERY familiar with in this house!). When school was done, we impulsively decided to go to Target. I had received a $5 coupon for getting my flu shot at their pharmacy, and I tried to use it, as it expires next week, but for some reason their system wouldn't accept it (yet my mom's coupon worked on her purchase, and we got them at the same time :confused3 ). So the cashier gave me a $5 gift card instead, which is fine with me - I couldn't use it on that purchase, but I didn't spend that much anyway and now I don't have to worry about an expiration date!

When we got home, Josh wanted to stay outside, so we walked up the street and collected leaves from the neighbors' trees. They all have such pretty colors, but our trees are still green (and will be well into November - whatever kind of trees we have, the leaves usually don't come down until after the snow flies). I convinced him to go back inside when we got home, where he had his supper and I made the wax paper leaf suncatchers...

MVIMG_20201015_141929.jpgMVIMG_20201015_141947.jpg

Then we had soccer practice. It started off fine, but Josh is now having a few issues with a little boy who is also in his kindergarten class (who goes on Thursday/Friday, but we see him online). During one drill, he kept kicking Josh's ball away, into the next field, then he started kicking another boy's ball over as well. Then the 2nd boy joined in as well, kicking each other's ball, and finally kicking Josh's ball, too. Josh just stands there, looking like he doesn't know if he should get out of line, until we yell to him to go get it. In the end, I just got fed up and retrieved it myself, then kept it (as practice was almost over anyway). All 3 boys just stared at me like, "Wow, Josh's mom is REALLY mad now..."

So today is our 9th wedding anniversary! Seems like just yesterday! 9 years ago at this time, we were probably having our meal. I can't even remember what I had (I think the chicken?), but I do remember that it was good ;)

QOTD: Do you do your nails? If so, do you do them yourself, or do you have them done? What do you usually wear on them? We can talk fingernails, toenails, or both!! 💅
I haven't done my nails in years. I've rarely painted my fingernails, as they never seem to last more than a day or two (even with a base and top coat, and decent polish like OPI, Orly, China Glaze, etc.). I used to ALWAYS paint my toenails in the summer or in Florida, when I'd be wearing open-toe shoes. Even when I was 9 months pregnant with Josh, I did my toenails. I thought it was easy, even with a big stomach in the way - just pull your leg/knee up on the side of your belly. I think the last time I paid for a manicure was for my high school prom! But now I'm lucky if I do my toes once or twice a year. Just don't have the time.

I actually am a certified nail technician. In the summer of 1993, I took a nail tech class at the hairdressing school and got a certificate. I couldn't quite get the hang of the ones that you had to build up using the powder. I did like doing tips and gels, though, and regular old manicures were easy. I couldn't find a job afterward, however. Even the chain salons, where you'd be an employee rather than renter, the first they said to me when I inquired about a job was, "How much of a client base do you have?" So I spent some time doing nails for family and friends and eventually gave up. Now you need to be licensed in the state of CT to do nails, not just certified.

I also have sold off a lot of my collection. At one point, I was up to 186 polishes! I've sold off much of it over the years...many colors actually were quite similar, so I kept my favorites of each. I love black, purple, blue, and red polishes. OPI's Black Satin is my favorite, and Orly did a lovely black with silver glitter called "Goth" that is really nice. Josh sometimes asks me to do his nails, and he has own blue nail polish that he likes. I usually only do his toenails, although once or twice I've done his fingernails (to Daddy's dismay ;) ).
