@Meriweather, when DGD was here yesterday she helped me make banana bread. I thought of you.

We drove to WDW once and stopped at South of the Border at 0430. :scared1:
:scared1: It's creepy in the daytime. When we took the autotrain, we passed SOTB at 11 pm or midnight. Kind of interesting to see it lit up.

I gotta get to San Diego - I understand it's a great place to visit.
DD went there summer 2019 and loved it. Thinks we need to go.

Just got an email from Dairy Queen--fall flavors. Caramel Apple Pie Blizzard, and Pumpkin Butter Cookie Shake (they also have the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard)--
I got that email also.

What's funny is for years I would think what was the point to any dessert treat when chocolate was not involved?
I felt that way too but now really enjoy caramel and vanilla.

Rained most of the day here, sun just now came out. I didn't feel great (bad headache), so did a whole lot of nothing. I had 5 episodes of Love Island on the tivo, so I binge watched those. Not usually my kind of show, but wanted something I could mindlessly watch, lol
We have to go to his office tonite to drop something off, so thinking dinner will either be Chic A Filet, or Domino's Pizza, I just don't feel good enough to cook.
Have a great afternoon everyone

((feel better vibes))

If only the weather would cooperate and start feeling like fall, lol. This morning, it was so humid that I was a sweaty mess walking from the front door, down a flight of stairs, and out to my car (about 3 minutes total)...

Hooray for more new replies to our thread. Thank you all again for sharing with us smaller tourist places you have visited. They have been a lot of fun to read about :)

PollyannaMom, I admit to having no coffee interest. The smell is not pleasant to me so I have no need to taste it. I was always one of the few adults during fellowship time after church who always had water only. I'm really glad you enjoy a coffee/chocolate treat :) What a heartwarming share X2 about your DS' lost wallet being returned in tact twice, love that. Reading that reminded me of the one time my wallet fell out at a restaurant. This was at a smaller local place up in Northern, CA that my Grandma and I went to weekly for dinner. Thankfully I realized about the wallet soon after getting home and the restaurant was already holding it for me :)

Apirateslifeforme, love that you have been to so many fun sounding places. Thank you for taking time to share. Your post reminded me that as a kid I often went to the LA Museum of Science and Industry. There was an IMAX as part of the complex. I remember loving the Blue Planet film and seeing that multiple times (on different visits). I saw Blue Planet on DVD years ago and wondered why it had captivated young me so but it sure did.

Carol, hooray that you also got to do some baking with your DGD :)

Wednesday Extra Gratitude:

All the fun shares about tourist trips. Positive to think about for one day ahead :)
Dad was able to get his car washed this morning at the same drive thru car wash he brought my car to recently.
Slept better last night and was able to rest a bit today as well.

Another excessive heat watch :rolleyes2 from Friday morning through Monday night. Enough all ready!

Ugh....I'm sooo over the heat. It was 95 by 11am this morning. Its supposed to be over 100 over the weekend and I'm so tired of it. I went to a grave side funeral yesterday morning for a family friend at 10am and it was sooo hot already. One of the family members almost passed out, her dad had to car her to their car to run the AC and get some cold water on her face....she ended up throwing up, poor thing.

@flyingdumbo127 I love the Trees of Mystery...we stopped a couple years ago and took the gondola ride up through the trees Ports O Call, we used to go there a lot with my grandparents. We LOVED it. We always got the choice of a toy from one of the shops, an ice cream cone, or some candy from the candy shop. I always picked the knick knack or some kind of toy from one of the shops, my sister always wanted ice cream and my brother would hold out for the candy shop which was our usual last stop. LOL I took my family for the first time not to long ago and it really changed. :( Most of the shops were like thrift stores and not the specialty shops they used to be. I was so disappointed.

Actually so many touristy places I like have been mentioned...Lion Country Safari, wow....haven't heard that in awhile. Santa's Village...its not to far up in the mountains from me. They remade it into an adventure park called Sky Park at Santa's Village with ziplines, mountain bike trails, hiking...they still have some of the building and Santa in the winter but no rides. Another place close to home is Calico Ghost Town , which was an old west mining town from the late 1880's. Walter Knott who started Knott's purchased it in the 60's and restored the original building. We love going, not in summer of course, since it's in the middle of the desert. LOL They have fun holiday events and do a civil war reenactments every Feb, we really enjoy when we go. Knott's Berry Farm...I love Knott's. Seaport Village in San Diego, which is near the USS Midway....haven't been there but we did go to the USS Yorktown in Charleston, SC a few years ago and it was incredible to see. I LOVE Medieval Times, too. Its so fun for me no matter how many times we go. LOL And of course, Las Vegas is the ultimate tourist destination. We go to Las Vegas ALOT.....hubby gets lots of comps from gambling so we always have "free" rooms. LOL We like to go to Fremont Street and walk around the different casinos. @apirateslifeforme we've also done the Titanic and Bodies exhibits, Tournament of Kings, and we really like the fountains at the Bellagio. We usually stay at the Mirage and can see the volcano eruptions every night.

Oh another couple places from our road trips to and from WA, Tillamook Cheese factory, Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, and Lake Shasta Caverns

I’ve been to Disneyland twice , and Disneyworld 15+ trips in the last 20 years. Forgive me, for my lack of knowledge how large cities are and crazy traffic times around California. Would love to visit the state more some day , but will call you ladies to be my tour guide. I do remember a restaurant called “ The White House” in Anaheim we had a fancy dinner at then they opened the side door and we could see Disneyland fireworks as we ate dessert

For you east coasters, I love Ocean city, MD. But must say really I love north OC above 80th Street. ( Boardwalk stops before 40 th right ). And Fenwick Island, DE. Nicer people and less crowded then myrtle beach. Try albertinos wood fired pizza ( maybe 118-123rd street area). Great seafood pizza, meatballs and other fun food. Sad they closed Phillips seafood north several years back, but got decent crab cakes. No fillers at The original crab cake factory.
Have a great night everyone !

Good Thursday morning.

We had some good thunderstorms last night. Lights flickered off once. That triggered the motion sensitive light at our driveway which was still on at 3am. Luckily it is off this morning.

DD coming with the kids again today. I think we are going yo a playground. DGD is going to start at daycare next week. She misses it and will do well with the instruction. I just hope she stays healthy.

Before the storm, our AC air-handler in the basement started making a terrible noise. We turned it off. Tried it again today and still making the noise. We called and got a maintenance appt for Tuesday or Wednesday. Luckily the high is only 85 today and less the next few days. We will survive with fans.

I work in a daycare/preschool. We've been open this entire time because a few of our kids have essential parents. I haven't worked the entire time because there was low attendance but we are back to full again for a few weeks now and I will tell you, this is the healthiest our kids have been in I don't even know how long. We haven't had as much a runny, boogery nose and in childcare there is always someone with a boogie nose. With all the safety protocols not just at school but at home too, the kids just aren't getting germs like they usually do and if they have been feeling a bit under the weather, parents are keeping their kids home and not sending them to daycare Iike they usually do....its been great. I hope your DGD stays healthy and enjoys her new daycare.

@Breezy_Carol, my grandkids have been in daycare for almost three weeks. So far so good.

@AuntieMe3, DGD had a runny nose the first week of daycare but both are free and clear right now. It could have been allergies too for her.

I love trees! I googled Trees of Mystery and it looks like a neat place to visit. I don't know if I'll ever make it back to California, there's so many other states I haven't visited yet but I can definitely put it on my list. I've seen the Redwoods but I would like to see the Sequoias too.

I think dinner tonight is going to be Hamburger soup. It looks cold outside but it's not, will be in the mid 80's today which is wonderful.

Somehow this week has gone by a bit quicker! Happy Thursday morning to all.

Prayers to all kids staying safe at school that is for sure!

I don't have a clear Trees of Mystery memory but I think one part of the appeal for me was that it was a simpler time you experienced being there. I think our world could really use returning to simpler and kinder times especially post plague!

Raining again here today, and very very muggy. Temp is only 75 at the moment. Supposed to be sunny and upper 70's, low 80's thru Labor Day so that will be nice. I got ambitious this morning. After I did laundry, I gave the kitchen and bathroom floors a good old fashioned hands and knees scrubbing. Looks so pretty and shiny now! I have the urge to start Fall cleaning, but it's way too early for that. By Oct it would need it again, lol. Have a great day everyone!

Happy Thursday
Back from grocery shopping.
Movie day here. DH's choice, so we'll see .
Supposed to be 107 today.
Actually starting to do more planning for the Grand Canyon trip. 2 of us have specialized diets, so seeing what is available will take some time. Not many food places there.

Chicken Caesar salad for dinner tonight
LOL.....we already did fall cleaning. Except I need to go through clothes, but too hot to try a bunch on, so it is waiting.

Hot and muggy again today.

Decided I wanted comfort soup, so made Greek Lemon Chicken Soup with feta pita pockets for lunch. Needed to use up some rice krispies and marshmallows that got opened, so made dark chocolate chip salted rice krispy treats. Tomorrow, I'm making zucchini fritters and feta pockets; and the day after, burgers/fries/veggies.

I have meals planned for the whole month, and the only things I have left to pick up are the fish, and any dairy/bread/buns/fresh veggies and fruit, that we need weekly. /happy organized dance

Since we've been eating the 'big meal of the day' at lunch instead of dinner, I find myself eating less (a yogurt in the am, big lunch, then a small snack about 3pm....dessert type, then a small snack at 6pm...like some popcorn,)...and I've lost 4 lbs. Plus I'm sleeping better, not having heartburn or acid reflux all night.

Ears are still plugged and draining, fun times. After we finish eating, I need to clean the kitchen, then the bathroom (again). Need to vacuum but have to wait for that until DH is done working (too noisy while he's on the phone or zoom).

When DS was little, and we lived in NV, we took a side trip to the GC, on the way to the AZ Ren Faire. I was all "yep, it's a big hole in the ground. Let's go." Kids were hungry, and we wanted something quick and easy, so stopped at McDonald's for a quick snack for them. I swear, we paid $25+ for a happy meal and 2 cheeseburger meal. It was so expensive there! DH and I snacked on beef jerky and cheese cubes until we got to Phoenix, lol.

We'll be packing some food. We have a small fridge at each place, but no micro wave.
DGD likes McDonald's. but prohibitive for the 2 adults.
The places around the canyon area only have 4 restaurants, a small store and a ice cream place.....not sure they are all open.
DD has a wheat allergy, so not sure about finding bread, etc. there. We might have to take some and just switch out the burger or meat onto that.
