Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Scouting, no I have not. I remember in grade school a lot of Brownies, and the Brownie uniforms. I expressed an interest in joining. Unfortunately, my parents did not really think it was a good idea (or want to mess with it), or knew me better than I knew myself. Not trying to make my parents sound bad or anything, they probably figured I would lose interest quickly or something, I dunno.

We have been busy doing yard work , getting ready to lay mulch today. But I’ve missed you guys.

Scouting - I was a brownie and then a junior scout until 6 th grade when basketball and piano lessons took up my time. Our Girl Scout troop was an arts and crafts troop. We made many things. Our “camping” was an overnighter in the school gym making craft projects, movie and popcorn.
If you have a teenager, encourage them to help out with a brownie troop a great volunteering opportunity.

Yoga- I like how my body has to stretch and use muscles I don’t move much, but the pace is so slow. I prefer a Pilates class that has yoga moves , but also cardio and core training. Although I haven’t done either in almost a year due to busy schedule

Trees- oh I’ve got lots of interesting stories , I’ll share another day.
Enjoy this summer Saturday everyone !

I found a picture of my one tree!

With my big boy being a rascal! (This is my soul kitty.) I learned a very neat trick for having ornaments with cats: secure the ornaments with green pipe cleaners instead of hooks. He full-on bunny-kicked ornaments and never managed to knock them loose.

Never did scouting, not a fan of yoga.

It has been a heck of a week here. I got to work Thursday to find my little princess Evie had chewed up my glasses... the actual lenses (they're acrylic). Almost half of the lens has deep punctures and gashes from tiny teeth... sigh.

Then yesterday, my husband locked his keys in his truck - along with his spare key. This is about the 87th time in our relationship he has managed to lose, lock, or otherwise bungle his car keys. SIGH.

Then last night we went to dinner with his friends. And then I spent the rest of the night in the bathroom. Every calorie I have eaten in the 24 hours was evacuated one way or another. And you know what I believe we have discovered as the cause? An unknown intolerance to scallops. There have been three times in the last year that I have been violently ill in this manner, and I realized last night that every time, I had eaten a scallop or two at dinner. Alas, I will have to simply assume that this is indeed the case - because I absolutely will not be collecting any further data to find out for sure. No more scallops, ever. My stomach muscles still hurt.

Let's hope things start looking up this week.

Missed you Sparkle, good to see you back, my friend :) That would be so cool to know someone whose family owned a Christmas tree Farm! Years ago I enjoyed a book by Luanne Rice called Silver Bells about a father and his two children who had a small Christmas Tree farm and each year would go to New York (they were from Nova Scotia) to sell some of them. Another book to check out from the library post plague!

Happy Birthday to your Grand-daughter, Meriweather! She might enjoy the My Secret Unicorn Series :)

Thank you all for sharing memories of scouting both from your childhood and that of your kids. I am so sorry that some of you that wanted to try out scouting did not get to do so :(

I'm going to PM a few of you shortly with more information about the kindness project I am working on. Thank you in advance for reading it! I do not know how to PM more than one person at a time so absolutely please know if I do not initially contact you it has nothing to do with you! There are no words other than my sincere thanks to God for bringing us together through this thread. I appreciate all of you! Please do PM me about this or again if you just need/want to share. I care. ETA: To the few of you kind ladies who have already been in touch with me on this, I pray to have clarified some initial ideas on it :)

What is an alicorn, Meriweather? LOL, maybe 2 or 3 summers ago one little boy at one of the camps brought a book all about different types of Zombies! We had some nice chats about that. It was so sweet how he chose to share with me about them and in general. He and his family are dear to me. I do remember having to make a "no Zombie play at church" rule because inevitably this would lead to rough housing and pretend fighting, someone getting hurt! I clearly remember this child's sweet mom agreeing with me that this was a good rule sadly to her son's dismay! I miss them this summer that is for sure :)

I was a Brownie, junior girl scout, and cadette. I lost interest in junior high especially when my best friend moved away. We went to the meetings together. My Dad was an Eagle Scout back in the 1930's. He was so proud of that accomplishment. He also become a scout leader when my brother was in boy scouts.

@Pea-n-Me I am sorry that things got mixed up with joining Brownies.

It is hot here today. The next few days are supposed to be in the 90's too. Tomorrow around 95 and a bit hotter forecast for Monday. Time to stay in the house. At least I work at home all day Monday so I don't have to venture out.

Unicorns seem to be the big party theme this year.

I remember the song Still the One. A blast from the past.

QOTD - Friday 7/17 - were you ever involved in scouting?

:guilty: That is a bit of a sad story for me. I wanted to be a Brownie in first grade. We went to the initial meeting but somehow my mother must not have followed up. There was a lot going on in my household at the time. So everyone came to school in their brownie uniforms - but me. For a long time I thought they somehow didn’t want me, not realizing until much later what must’ve happened. So I never had the opportunity. But I think it’s something I would’ve liked.

:( I'm sorry

I was a Brownie, then a Junior for a few years. I wasn't happy as a junior; it was very....cliqueish. Either you were in the 'inner circle' or you weren't, and if you weren't, you were not invited to things, or picked for partners or anything. :(

DD#2 went from pre-Brownie (IDR what those are called, lol), then into Brownies. I was Cookie mom a couple of times for her, and helped as needed. Her first Junior year, the leader took all the funds (all the fees the girls/parents paid for books, sashes, council fees, etc) and left. Council wasn't willing to move the girls into new troops without more $$$, so we didn't push her to continue.

DS started in Cub Scouts, and left his first year of Boy Scouts. He couldn't find a boy scout troop that wasn't focused on Eagle; three of the troops he tried simply wanted to churn out Eagles as fast as they could, and were passing boys on their tests even if they couldn't do the required items. For example, one kid couldn't even open his pocketknife, but got a chit for knife; another couldn't swim very well at all, not even treading water, and got passed for swim. With the Cubs, DH was DS's leader, and ACM; we both worked summer camps as group leaders; I was pack CC, 'popcorn kernal', camp card chair, and council summer camp director at various times.

An Alicorn is a unicorn, pegasus combo.......unicorn with wings.
She just got 2 for her birthday and a couple of shirts

Good evening DIS family! Well, today was supposed to be our 'cool' day out of the next several hot ones, but we hit 96 degrees a little while ago. I don't even want to go outside tomorrow if it's hotter! Did grocery shopping early this morning. Walmart must have had a run on paper goods as there was very little in the way of TP, paper towels, and kleenex. Meat department was full though, prices up again. Stopped at the farm stand out that way. Got half dozen of nice bi color corn (last week they wanted $12 a dozen, today it was down to $7 a dozen). Had honey battered chicken tenders, Nathans fries, kuta squash (freshly picked out of our garden, hurray), and corn. I have picked about 6 squash and a dozen pickling cukes, still waiting for the tomatoes to start ripening. Tonite I plan on doing nothing but relaxing, all my chores for the weekend are done! Hope everyone is staying cool (especially you @Meriweather ! Have a lovely evening everyone`
Gratitudes for the day- able to get lots of fresh fruits and veggies ( I love summer produce)
Stores weren't crowded , was able to get in and out quickly
Hubby feeling a little better
This thread, it keeps me going, I love reading about everyones families and their days!

Thank you indeed, Meriweather for the alicorn explanation, that is so cool :P Twilight the "Secret Unicorn" can fly! He does not have wings though. Did She-Ra's horse Swiftwind have wings? I don't remember.

Hugs, Bianca and Bernard, that is so wrong that even the Scout kids were allowed to exclude people :(

You were a good shopper, Lynxstch! :)

So grateful extra today:

To have been able to talk with a few friends on my phone. So nice to actually hear the voice of someone dear to me.

Two extra pajamas in the mail from Wal-Mart. Just waiting for them to get the same style in another color to order as daytime pajamas :D

The Price is Right last week was a rerun of Kids Week from last year. It was fun to see different ages of kids (with their parents) playing. I watched Thursday's show earlier which was high schoolers. This has become a fun plague show to watch!

@Nox, cute picture of the cat and tree!

And I have the same weird thing with scallops, so wanted you to know you are not alone! I loved them most of my life, but the first time I ate them after having DS, I got really sick. I thought I’d just gotten some bad ones or something, but the same thing happened the next time, so I gave them up as well.

That would be so cool to know someone whose family owned a Christmas tree Farm!

I had a friend in high school whose family did. It was fun to help trim and shape them as they grew. - I think one year I tagged my tree in August!
