Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Hi y'all and happy Tuesday. So I realize I have been doing this a month now and kudos to all who is hanging in there with me just letting me and encouraging my rambles. Especially as the dis just keeps getting more difficult to read and navigate as emotions flare higher.

It's beautiful and windy cold day here. Mother Nature is really messing with me at this point. I didn't even go outside today just because I'm trying to prevent any asthma flare ups. My mom isn't having the best day, which means the rest of us hear about it frequently and at length. It just difficult time right now. Overall a quiet day here. I met with some people that needed to talk with anxiety everything going on. I also had my zoom meetings with community obligations. We didn't have most uplifting conversation talking about current and future fall out and how to prepare and prevent most we can.

Dinner tonight is honey garlic lime chicken with sticky rice and stir fry veggies. It's new recipe and I hope it's good. Nothing aggravates me more to buy all the stuff and go to all trouble and then the dinner not turn out good. Probably why I just stick with tried and true. I'm also little lazy lol Tomorrow I'm cooking the Easter ham in crockpot. Only a little late but at least some easy meals for a few days.

Gratitude today:
1. Full freezer and pantry of food. Blessed to find and buy all we need.
2. The medical and science people that are are trying their best and hardest to find medicine or vaccine or any idea how
to battle this virus. I can't imagine the pressure they are feeling. They want to be back to "normal" too.
3. I'm always thankful for the nursing home staff where my mom lives. It's very small facility and they understand my mom and her needs
and balance that with actual real medical issues and her safety when she doesn't always care.

Peace and good health to all.

Question of the day: 4/21: Burgers? Do you like them and what do you eat on them?

So I love a good hamburger. I don't mean the dollar one at McDonalds. I love a good real burger. I can be happy with Five Guys (love the fries!) We tend to make them at home now even before all this started. We make variety of them from turkey Greek burgers to Western style bacon burgers with bbq sauce and onion ring. My favorite tends to be loaded with a bleu cheese sauce we make and cooked mushrooms in pepper and butter. My Matt really likes when we make green chile cheeseburgers. They are acquired taste from our time in the Southwest and they are good! What about ya'll?

I have never been to a Five Guys...there is one near us, I've just never been!

Burger? I like a simple lamb burger with cheese & green leaf lettuce, maybe some raw onion, just a bit of mayo. I also like a turkey burger w/ loads of cheese (american), carmelized onions, a bit of mayo and green leaf lettuce both w/ fries and mayo mayo Yum!
For the record, I'm anti boardwalk fries, they always seem under cooked and oily to me (yeah, had them several times over the years at several places - just not the taste for me).

Dang - pizza and burgers, I'm hungry!

Today was a good day, the past few days have been busy with work and I have been absent, but I could talk about pizza for days so it is probably best that I was unable to chat your eyes off about that topic.

I have been having every problem with FedEx deliveries the past three weeks, but two of my packages were delivered today, at last, and the third was officially designated as lost today so I was able to call the vendor and they are dealing with FedEx and refunding me for my purchase.
United canceled our return from Hawaii flight and my husband was able to get a refund to his credit card easily, so I am not at the point where I can say that 100% of my out of pocket expenses for our canceled Hawaii vacation have been refunded in full to our original form of payment, that is a win if ever there was one!!!!!

I hated burgers growing up, I don't think I really started liking them until my mid to late 20s, they aren't my favorite food ever (see pizza above) but I do enjoy a really good burger from time to time. There is a place that my husband and I frequent that does a really nice mushroom swiss burger, with house sauce and they do a delicious split of onion strings and fries, everything is always made to order and is hot and delicious. Otherwise, if you have a spicy burger on your menu that's what I am ordering, chipotle mayo, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, etc. I also love onions on a burger, any kind, I just think they go really well together.

I wish we had a Five Guys, or an In and Out burger. Our granddaughters love them! I love a good homemade burger. Not too lean on the ground beef either. I like an 85%, some chicago steak seasoning added. Put it on a bun, or sourdough bread with some mayonnaise and a fresh tomato and I am in heaven!

Tina, thank you (and everyone else) again and always for keeping this thread going and uplifting. I pray all of you know it makes a difference! Summer in April is slowly coming to LA. The rest of the week may be near 90! It is nice to see the sun though :)

I am so grateful today to have gotten a postcard from a friend I had not heard from for quite a while. She has various health concerns and is out of state so that can make being in touch harder.

Grateful to have slept well last night. The night before we got a late night call from an unknown caller out of state, who was promptly blocked, but it was just enough to make me restless for a while.

Thinking positively on warmer days ahead and truly praying that will help stop this horrible virus.

Question of the day: 4/20: Pizza? What's your toppings? What's your favorite place to order from?

Who is pizza person? What's your toppings? Do you make it at home or have favorite take out place?
I used to LOVE pizza and still like it but totally got spoiled by real Italian pizza in Italy last year. LOL There is just nowhere around here that even remotely compares to real Italian pizza. We don't get pizza often anyway because my hubby and daughter prefer pasta to pizza but when we do get it, I like pepperoni, mushroom and black olive, I also like pepperoni with pineapple but no one else does so I never get that....LOL I also like a veggie pizza but most of time find them pretty bad, soggy dough and undercooked veggies. blah...lol If we go somewhere with personal pizzas or flatbreads on the menu, I'll usually order a white pizza. My dream pizza would be something with with caramelized onion, fig, prosciutto and goat cheese....maybe with a balsamic vinegarette drizzle....YUM!!!

Love cheeseburgers but its not usually my top choice when we go out to eat...love a good western burger with BBQ sauce and ideally onion straw not rings. At Red Robin, my favorite burger right now is the Southern Charm burger...Brown-sugar-glaze, candied bacon, Whiskey River® BBQ Sauce, extra-sharp Cheddar, caramelized onions, shredded romaine and mayo on a toasted brioche bun. Its kinda messy and I can only eat half there and have to take the other half home, but I like it. When we make burgers at home, they're pretty basic but I'm always surprised they taste so good and wonder why we don't make them more often. I like to put mayo and little mustard and ketchup, red onion, thin sliced tomato and lettuce...always with cheese and NO pickles. LOL If we have thousand island, I'll put that on but we usually don't soo....

Love In n Out cheeseburgers with grilled onions and https://www.originaltommys.com/ which I'm pretty sure they only have them in So Cal and Nevada, the closest one to us is 40 minutes away but worth the drive. I LOVE their single cheeseburger(all burgers come with chili unless you specify you don't want it) with NO pickles.

Bacon
Cheese (cheddar, pimento, american, pepper jack will do)
sometimes BBQ sauce, sometimes A1 or Heinz 57, sometimes ketchup
Duke's mayowith spicy mustard OR the Walmart brand Garlic Aioli Mustard
Dill pickles (the crisp, cold ones)
big thick crisp juicy tomato
iceberg lettuce
red onion OR carmelized onions
Prefer a good bun that doesn't fall apart. Pretzel buns are good.

Tonight, we're having the ham I didn't make for Easter, baked potatoes and roasted cauliflower/broccoli/brussel sprouts/corn.

Amazon has delayed 2 of my puzzles. One isn't until mid-May now; the other is for this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath. Still waiting on a puzzle from Walmart (Ceaco Thomas Kinkade Disney), but it's not schedule to be here until Apr 30. 'sok

Had a blah day yesterday. I usually get that way on the 20th (my true cake day). No presents or anything from anyone; I told DH all I wanted was for DS and DH to do something thoughtful for me. He thoughtfully asked if I could make burgers for lunch instead of dinner. :sad2: I understand they couldn't go out and shop, and no one is delivering flowers right now (DH's usually m.o.)

DD#2 had 2 coworkers who were exposed to Covid-19 a few weeks ago, through their family members (and one knew he was sick when he was in the office, but she doesn't know from what). The last couple days, she's been very tired and nauseous; this morning, she woke up with a fever. Took tylenol, went to work (wearing a mask) as she is supposed to be in the office to answer phones (every one else is remote working or out in the shop). Fever kept going up and down (from 99 to 100.4). She called the nurse line at the military base, and they asked her to come in for a test, since she was potentially exposed thanks to the coworkers. She had a fever of 102 when she got to the hospital (over an hour later, since she was coming from work). Long story short, they are waiting for results, and the three of them (DD, SoIL and GS) have been quarantined at their home for the next 14 days. She's going to see if her pet sitter can take their dog for her follow up (spay surgery last week) and to do grocery shopping for them (she'll pay her, obv) since they can't really get grocery delivery on base. SoIL is ecstatic that he is on paid leave for 2 weeks.

I like a good quality beef, pepper jack cheese, and a high quality bun. For toppings, I can handle leaf lettuce, sliced tomato or onion, or sliced dill pickles. Lettuce or tomato require a dash of salt and pepper.

I do not want any condiments or sauces of any kind on the burger. I don’t eat condiments on any sandwiches, with the exception of marinara sauce on a meatball sub. Condiments just gross me out.

If I go to a burger place and I see sauteed mushrooms and swiss cheese offered, I will go for that one. Always. That's the one I get at Red Robin and Steak 'n Shake (we can only go to SnS when we're in Florida).

Surprisingly, last year when we went to Universal Orlando, I had a FABULOUS mushroom and swiss burger in the food court at the Aventura Hotel (where we stayed). My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Prior to that, the best burger I'd had was the bacon cheeseburger at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando. That was in 1997...

We have a Five Guys here, but I've never been there! I had returned to the community college in 2009-10 to obtain a new certificate, and they built it in the area in front of the college during my 1st semester. In my 2nd semester after they opened, my classmates would often walk in with bags of fries (shake in hand as well)...when spring arrived and we could open the windows, the entire school smelled of french fries. And I still haven't gone there!

If we have burgers at home, I like cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and depending on my mood, either ketchup, BBQ sauce, or Heinz "Kranch" sauce.

Tina and everyone, thanks for keeping this going. It is a diversion I look forward to each day. Tina, I am going to try to message you a question suggestion.

Question of the day: 4/21: Burgers? Do you like them and what do you eat on them?
I don't eat a lot of burgers, mostly only out or at a cook out but I prefer hot dogs. Not a huge fan of beef. Often a turkey burger with cheddar cheese. When we were in CA, enjoyed In-N-Out Burger. When DS travels there for work he'll try to find one. On the east coast, I like Bobby Flay's Burger Palace but the one closest to us closed.

Good things today:
1. Got out of the house to help close up DH's office.
2. Made up dinner of chicken, onion, mushrooms, peppers, zucchini, and tomato sauce over rice turned out very tasty.
3. Nephew celebrated 600 days of sobriety.
