God Bless dear Lou Lou and Lil Joe, Kirby! They are such extra precious gifts from God. Much 🙏Lil Joe has a wonderful time with his mom. I love that they are going on a Mother/Son dance. Dear Lou Lou and her whole ⚽team. They just wanted everyone to win :)
:hug:Bobbiwoz, I'm so happy the postcard brightened your day. Doesn't the dog look a little like Gus? :dogdance:

🌺Pea and hope you're having a good day.

Good afternoon to all!
Sure does look like Gus.

Good Afternoon. Fall is definitely in the air around here. Woke up to low 50's yesterday and today. Definitely pleasant weather.

Playing catchup here.
@lynxstch - hope your stepdaughter gets some answers soon. Trying to understand medical terms is hard.

@Bianca and Bernard - Prayers your son is OK. That can be scary that he just moved away like that.

@bobbiwoz - Glad things are going well with your husband post surgery. How nice that someone from your past stopped by. Did you say you lived in Yardley? That's not very far from me.

@dazedx3 - I am so sorry to hear that Kris isn't doing well. I'm glad you are making memories and how wonderful to have a new grandchild to look forward to. I agree about cancer. My husbands cousin lost her sister and her husband to cancer a year apart in 2021-2022 and she has been fighting metastatic breast cancer for a couple of years. She also lost her dad to cancer.

@Breezy_Carol - Sorry Marty is under the weather. Hope he's feeling better

@Kirby - I love the little ones playing sports when they first start out, as long as they have fun and enjoy the sport. I coached T-Ball and older for many years. My number 1 rule was always HAVE FUN!

@frog3101 - Sorry your soon to be ex is still acting like that. I have never understood the reasoning of hurting the kids to get back at the ex. Hope your attorney is helpful.

I took Crystal to work today and had a nice conversation with her. Sadly, I think she is more mature than some of the adults in her father's family. Her cousin is going to be a father; he's 17, not working and doesn't want to work. He also dropped out of school. They had a baby shower for the baby last week and my granddaughter went with her aunt and great-grandmother. Her other grandmother and the family were there. Crystal has seen her father's mother and the family maybe 2 times in the past 6 years. She is angry at them, rightfully so. One of her father's cousins came up to her and tried to bully her into going over to her grandmother and Crystal said no! She said, "she couldn't be bothered with me for over 6 years, ever since my aunt lost custody of all her kids because she's an addict. Mom-mom knew how to reach me and my brother and sister and chose not to. I am choosing not to have a relationship with her." I was so proud of her because she stood her ground and wasn't letting anyone bully her. She is very angry at her father's mother. She saw her postings on Facebook and how for every 100 pictures of them there might have been 1 mention of her or her siblings. She heard the other grandparents blame ME for her not talking to them and she told them they are no longer her grandparents, just the people that gave birth to her father. They should be happy my Ella wasn't there. She would not have been polite about it. I never once told the kids to stay away from the other grandparents. They saw what was being said and done and are now old enough to voice an opinion.

Oh well, I am off to get Crystal from work and then get dinner on the table. Not much, just a hoagie and some chips or side salads. Chat later.

:hug:Bobbiwoz and I'm so glad! I hope Gus liked it, too :D

:grouphug:Taz, you are absolutely a blessing to all of us and to Crystal along with the rest of your family!

I attached a picture of our current microwave cart. I realized while doing some early searching, that a lot of the choices have a closed shelf to place the microwave. We want it to be open like our current one is. Also, a new cart would need to be on wheels. Dad was able to make the drawer much more useable which gives us more time to consider options. Trying to ideally not have to replace both this cart and fridge this year. Would prefer to do one next year. I will keep all of you posted.

PollyannaMom, much prayer your son is continuing to improve!

It's near 90 here, definitely not cooler weather! Prayers you are keeping cool, AuntieMe3 and enjoying some pool time this weekend, as well.

Have a great rest of the afternoon (AuntieMe3) and evening (everyone else)

Good morning everyone. Cloudy , calling for rain, temps will be low 70's. I can live with that. Started washing the windows yesterday, did about 1/4 of them and got tired of doing it. Will finish them in the next couple of days.

All laundry is done, dinner decided on (bone in chicken breasts), and it's football day. Which means I will be on the computer, or on my phone watching tv shows or playing games, or DIS'ing

Have a nice morning all

@bobbiwoz Glad to hear you and Tom are recovering well.

Good Morning. Cool here again but going into the upper 60s today. I went to Kenny's house yesterday. The grandkids are acting out a bit more most likely due to the situation. They are having more tantrums if they don't get their way. We were able to have a nice time with them riding their bikes and my son and I walking. He needed to talk about things so I listened. He just seems less stressed in general and has a good plan to move forward. We went out to dinner to a local place and the kids were well behaved. Now both grandkids are looking forward to Disney. They got their magic bands in the mail and love them. They like to wear them for a few minutes each night before bed. When they were told they could wear them on the plane they were so happy. That and sour patch kids candy and snacks on the plane made their day.

Today I hope to go to Jeff's house. I love playing with the kids and catching up with Jeff and Aimee. I bought a couple of little sleepers for Sam which were on sale and I could not resist. This is last time for me to buy baby clothes so I will indulge once in a while. I got the other 3 chocolate Halloween lollipops. They always ask Nana, did you bring us anything? I just bring over little treats like maybe a snack or a book or a lollipop. They are happy with whatever I bring.

Have a good Sunday.

Morning all!

Got DH off to the airport this morning. He had a flight at 5:45, and I told him that he needed to be at JIA by 4:30, since he had a checked bag. He refused to listen; said that the airport wouldn't be super busy at 5am on a Sunday....which is true, but American closes bag check-in an hour before the flight. So, we got to the airport at 5am, and he calls me about 10 minutes after I pulled away (I was just getting on the highway), about being too late to check-in. They did switch him to a later flight, but through DFW instead of Charlotte :crazy2: and didn't charge him to change the flights, which was nice of them.

I came home and showered, and napped for about 45 minutes (I slept about 2-1/2 hours last night...IDK why I couldn't sleep). Headed to Wawa to fill the gas tank; to Target to pick up my little orders (batteries for the portable radio, little propane bottles for the little camp stove, Big propane bottle for the big camp stove, bread, a couple boxes of single serve creamers, and a new 5 gal water jug). Stopped at Starbucks for a pumpkin spice cold brew (extra shot of toasted vanilla syrup, extra pumpkin spice, extra pumpkin cold foam). At Publix, I was able to get the last 4 gallon jugs of water on the shelves (to freeze); 4- 16 lb bags of ice; some grapes and celery; popcorn (both microwavable and prepopped), donut holes (pumpkin spice, natch), jelly, and some free pb (thanks for the replacement coupons Jif). and a half gallon of milk. The water aisle was mostly empty, just the expensive fancy electrolyte waters left, and a lot of Clearly Canadian (I loved that stuff as a teenager! I thought about buying some for old times sake...but the $2.79 PER GLASS BOTTLE price tag made me put them back. I used to pay $2 for a 4 pack in the 80s, lol...)

This afternoon, I need to change the cat litter, and put out all the trash/boxes for tomorrow. I'm doing a load of laundry today, and I need to put away clean dishes, and wash dirty ones...then I'm done for the day. Watching the Broncos game tonight, woot! :cool1:

Jealous of those having cooler weather. We did get up to 61 this am, but it will be in the 90s this afternoon. 🥵
I need to nap. I'll check in later.

Waving Happy Sunday to all,

Cooler here at the moment, heating up later. Dad is currently off doing some shopping. Carol, I didn't get a worship link yesterday. I did get an email Friday that I deleted not realizing it may have indeed contained today's link. I will Google later and for sure watch tomorrow if need be. As always looking forward to doing so.

Dad and I will watch more of marry Me in Yosemite later. We do have a few other Hallmark movies recorded to watch. All is quiet on the CA front.

🌸:grouphug:to all. I'll check back later.

We had a severe storm about an hour ago. Rain so hard that you couldn't see outside, lightening close enough that the power flickered a few times. Now the sun is out and the temp is climbing

Asking once again for prayers for Summer (stepdaughter) . Some of the results she got this week, do not point to anything good. And she has more tests scheduled for this week. There are apparently more than 1 or 2 issues going on, so if you can spare them, they would be appreciated

:grouphug: to y'all. I hope they can get things figured out, and that it is all fixable...

Would it be possible for any of dear you that are techy to delete the string in this picture? Dad and I are still trying to find a smaller Autumn hanging decoration. This craft kit is on Oriental Trading for $12. It also makes 12. We would only need 3 at the very most! Not worth $12 which for us is a lot of money. By deleting the string, we could simply order this as a picture on CVS should we not find anything else. :thanks:

Much 🙏each of you are having a good afternoon in some way.

Thursday I was distracted by Thaddeus’s visit, and I forgot the best news that came that evening. Operation Fireside will once again be in person. Coast Guard recruits will once again be welcomed to local homes for two meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas!

We have sent our application in!

Here are the rules

The following rules and regulations of the USCG and American Red Cross are necessary to ensure both the safety and security of the USCG recruits and the successful completion of Operation Fireside 2022. Please read them completely before replying to the application:

  • Recruits will be picked up no earlier than 0900 on Thanksgiving and 1200 on Christmas. The later pickup time for Christmas allows the recruits to attend religious services. Recruits are required to be back to TRACEN Cape May no earlier than 1600 and no later than 2000 on both days. All recruits (unless on crutches) should be dropped off at the front gate, even if the driver has ID that allows them to drive onto the base.
  • Host requests for specific types of recruits (e.g., race, religion or gender) will not be honored
  • TRACEN Cape May permanent party members in Training Division and anyone else that has direct contact with recruits on a daily basis will not host recruits
  • All alcohol, drug and tobacco use (by recruits) is prohibited.
  • Recruits shall not drive vehicles and will wear seatbelts when in a vehicle.
  • If a recruit has a problem, he/she should notify the Training Duty Officer
  • At least two recruits will go with every family
  • The program has an established driving radius of 60 minutes and 50 miles from the Training Center to the host's home or per command discretion
  • If a recruit has family living within the established driving radius, the family may request the recruit by name. The Training Division will handle these case-by-case requests and
    keep the family informed
  • The arrival times of host families are staggered by 10 or 15 minutes to match the arrival time of recruit companies, beginning at 0900 on Thanksgiving and 1200 on Christmas.
  • You will not be allowed to access the base until 15 minutes before the recruit pickup time printed on your invitation. Even if you have ID that allows you to drive onto the base early,
your recruit will not be released until his or her official pickup time. Showing up early will only clog the parking lot.
  • Host organizations (who take large groups of recruits) and backup families (who have generously agreed to show up just in case there are any “left over” recruits) pick up last
  • The USCG Security officer will run a background check on all the names on the Host Family List. The list will also contain the name, address, phone number and driver’s license number of the family member who will pick up the recruits Host families should give the Red Cross the name of the person who will physically pick up the recruits. Host families will not be allowed to leave with recruits unless that person is present at pickup; contact the Red Cross immediately if that person becomes unavailable
  • Too much work and too little sleep is a big part of basic training. Hosts should not be insulted if recruits fall asleep, especially after a good meal.
  • Please notify the Red Cross of any special circumstances (e.g., hosts are related to one of the recruits, only vegan food will be served, there will be a special-needs family member
present), so recruits can be properly selected and briefed.
  • Please do not assign chores to recruits, aside from cleaning up their own plate (e.g., no peeling potatoes, vacuuming, or raking leaves); this is their day off.
  • Please bring recruits (more or less) directly to your home. Stopping at Wawa for gas is fine, but transit time should be no more than one hour in either direction
  • The only meal recruits participating in Operation Fireside will eat “on base” is breakfast, although they may be given a chewy bar to carry with them. Be mindful when you pick up
recruits that they have not eaten a meal since 0600, and when you drop them off, that they will not eat again for the rest of the day.
  • You are responsible for personally returning recruits to Cape May (no putting them in a cab, rideshare or public transportation).
  • Recruits will have their own phones for the first time since they arrived in Cape May. They will likely be anxious to talk/text with their family, but they should not ignore their host
    families because of their phones.
  • Please no gifts, especially food, as it will just be confiscated when the recruits return to the base
  • Please do not attend public events with the recruits such as sporting or entertainment events, etc. They should not be put on display.

Before 9/11, you were allowed to go to local football games or some sort community event if my memory is correct.

Years ago, you were allowed to give gifts and cookies. However, we saw recruits going back with gigantic bags of gifts. It is easy to understand the rule when you saw the booty that was brought back by some. We always gave phone credit cards, remember them??

As far as being tired. One year both recruits took 3 hour naps!

We have had recruits on crutches.

One year a guy called his fiancé and she broke up. It was very very emotional for him. My DDIL, Mimi, talked him through not wanting to go back.

We have had as many as 5 recruits at a time. One year there just weren’t that many volunteers.
