Good morning everyone...

Aww, I would love to meet him, he looks like a sweetie! Toto has been just the opposite - he was very light when we got him, but he’s darkened. Kind of ironic since I wanted a dark one to begin with, but circumstances were such that we wound up with him. And slowly he changed to dark! Dogs are the best, aren’t they? 🥰

Had a very nice morning. Picked up Tessa from her mom's office. Came back here and I read her 2 books I'd gotten from the library and she had her swim lesson. Then DH and I took her blueberry picking. Came back and had lunch here before taking her back to mom's office to go home. I had fun and I think she did too. I know she ate a lot of blueberries.

Selfishly I am also concerned about our vacations this year and not having a place for Jasper to go. I am hoping his kennel takes new reservations soon.

I get it - this past year & a half was supposed to be a big travel year for us since we had a live - in dog sitter in the form of our eldest son. There is nothing like being able to get away and not having to worry over your dog(s). One of our boys gets stressed out during boarding, and I hate to do it to him. I make special arrangements way ahead of time so the two of them can be together in same kennel area and get extra outside time, but still...his brother doesn't mind it, so at least he has his buddy there to keep him company.

He was up sitting in a chair when I got here, looking sooo much better. Heart rate is down where it belongs, BP is up where it belongs , oxygen still ok but set a little higher than I would like but,,,, Dr was in before I got here, said he might go home tomorrow, but I don't want them rushing him just because he is on Medicare. I was so surprised to see him up I cried!!!

Great news, hope he continues making leaps & bounds!

and a joy filled Thursday to each of you!

You as well, glad your father is doing better.

we decided to get a puppy.

Those are some big puppy feet! And a handsome boy! We are trying to transition from big dogs to small dogs, but I'm finding it hard, we've always had big boys but as the seasons change, as does our lifestyle, I see the wisdom in it.

Chatter on local news radio about them closing down the bridge from western shore to eastern shore due to winds later today from the tropical storm. Of course my husband had to go up to central / western PA to pick up a mule. He's on his way home now, and I think he will be on this side of the bay long before the wind picks up enough to limit travel - or travel with trailers - on the bridge. Still I'm keeping half a ear out for traffic reports!

I took some chicken breasts out for diner this evening, I think we will have them with roasted potatoes & roasted cherry tomatoes.

Sounds like a fun day, and it's only 2 PM - you guys packed a lot in!

Half sun here..temp is 80 . Just got home and going to try and get the weedwacking done. If they send him home, I will be afraid to go outside and leave him alone to do it. He finally got to take a solid 1 hour nap. I looked in the hallway, told the nurse I was shutting the door, and for noone to bother him till lunch came. I shut the door, turned around and he was sound asleep already, lol. Woke up when lunch came, at it all, and was going to take another nap when I left, so I told the nurse I shut the door so he could sleep. She said she would only go in to give him some tylenol, and if he needed anything else.

Precious dog, AuntieMe! Buddy is another canine Quacker for sure :)

Pea, dogs are absolutely the best! One day, God-willing, should I be living in a bigger place that has at least some outdoor space, I will absolutely adopt a dog in Champ's memory. Champ was a wire haired fox terrier, so a small dog, huge on love  For some reason, I've always thought should I get another dog, it would be a little bigger, maybe medium sized. I also know, dogs pick us, not the other way around! God sure led me to Champ that is for sure. I also believe Champ was waiting for his family to find him already! :)

What a fun day, Carol! I'm so glad.

Easyas, thank you along with Snowysmom and everyone else, of course, for the doggie care and compassion you give. Be safe!

:cheer2:Lynn and Hooray!

Holy smokes..out of nowhere, wind and rain just appeared. 15 minutes ago I was out there weedwacking in the sun? This is eerie!
His daughter got there and he was asleep. She was standing in the doorway, when someone asked her how she was..and that woke him up. He said he was still tired, so she had them put the blizzard she brought him in the freezer and went to the cafeteria until dinner trays come up. She told him he couldn't have the blizzard unless he finished his dinner,,lol..she says turn about is fair play, since he always told her things like that when she was younger,,lol!

Going back to the 4th on posts here...

@lynxstch, many prayers to you and your DH. I sometimes think there may be too many hands in the pot in hospitals. My mother and I hated that, when my grandparents took their turns in the hospital. I remember when my grandmother was there in 2005, she had about 5 different specialists, and none of them communicated with each other or us. We were confused daily by what diagnoses and treatments/medications she was getting. I'm glad to hear your DH is improving and will keep praying for him!

@dazedx3, I'm so sorry about your dog. I wish our pets lived much longer lives. They bring you so much joy, but it goes by much too fast. I've had to let go of 3 dogs and a cat so far, and now our remaining cat is 14 years old. He was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism - which apparently is very common in cats; our other cat had it for 5 years before her kidneys failed - and I'm so scared that he's rounding the corner now. So many hugs to you

@AuntieMe3, just agreeing with others, that you don't need to send a thank you card for a card. For flowers, donations, gifts or food, yes, but not for a card. I will say, though, that when my FIL passed away in February, my MIL did send thank yous for cards from people with whom they were particularly close to. For example, her 92-year-old aunt, who just had a stroke and can't afford to send flowers or gifts - she sent a lovely card, so my MIL sent a thank you back to her. She just used the preprinted ones from the funeral home and wrote a quick message to express her additional appreciation, and enclosed a prayer card. But in general, there's no need to send a thank you for a card.

@tazdev3225, many prayers for the twins! I've grown to like the name "Finn" now - it will always remind me of the kid from Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard. I know yours is a girl and it's spelled a bit differently, but I do kind of like it :)

An old friend of mine just posted on FB last night that her 15-year-old daughter got her 2nd cancer diagnosis this week. She literally just passed the 5-year anniversary of her first diagnosis. They don't yet know if this is the same cancer or something else. She will be spending at least a month in-patient at the children's hospital here. I'm so sad that she will be dealing with this again :(

So we did make it to the fireworks on Saturday evening. We went to the Kohl's parking lot early, as they were posting that they would start anytime between 9 and 9:30, whenever they got a "dry moment." We parked backwards, turned off the interior lights, and sat in the rear of the car with the door up, keeping us dry from the drizzle. It was a lovely 25-minute show and I got some good photos.

Sunday morning we started off by going to the cemetery to "visit" my FIL. It was sad to see at least 5 new graves in the row behind his. We also went to the memorial section next to Dad's and found his uncle's stone. He was shot down in the Pacific right at the end of WWII, a week after his 21st birthday. I got a chill when I noticed several stones dated December 7, 1941, all from the US Navy. Then we spent the day with my MIL and SIL, at my MIL's house.

Monday we just hung out at home. Tuesday, DH went back to work, and my mom, Josh and I went to the library in the morning. Josh started his new gymnastics class in the afternoon - NO FEAR. He actually stood up on the parallel bars  It was also quite funny to watch him bounce on the springboard, go pretty high into the air, and then dive down into the foam block pit. He's not the most graceful gymnast, that's for sure (you'd have to see the strange positions he was in while "diving" into the pit) ;) A nasty storm came whipping through while we were there, but when class let out, there was a lull, so we ran for the car. As I was strapping him into his car seat, one foot still on the ground outside, a heavy gust of wind slammed the car door shut on my leg, right under my knee. Oh, the pain...! I couldn't feel my foot for the rest of the night. I had trouble going up and down the stairs yesterday, but things seem better today. Still getting a tingle through the lower half of my calf/shin and foot once in a while, but otherwise okay :)

Yesterday was our movie morning. Our friend and her 3 kids met us there. We saw the Lego Movie 2. We won't be going this coming week; we already have a magic show at our library and our friend has to work, but we're planning on the week afterward when they're showing Dora and the Lost City of Gold (which we saw at our library back in 2019 and it was surprisingly good!). This morning we went to the library for Storytime, which I'd forgotten is much more than just getting a book reading. Miss Lisa reads 3 books, they get to dance, play a game, and do a craft as well. Then we went inside because Josh already got his first 50 points from his reading chart and won his first prize (a "brag tag" necklace). Stopped at Costco after that - they now have my favorite Hint water, and we found a new 3-in-1 winter jacket for Josh. Came home and Josh got another 20 points on his chart toward his second prize - at this rate, he'll get his 100-point and 150-point prizes next week! (I've got 60 points so far on my chart, but adults only get prizes at 100 points ;) )

I think we're looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow...

Thanks everyone for puppy love and I also forgot to say it earlier for the thank you card advice.

@Pea-n-Me dogs are the best. We are super attached to the two big guys we have right now, like moreso than any 9ther dogs we've had to far...DH says he doesn't think he can handle having anymore dogs after these two are gone. :sad1: He doesn't even like talking about that happening...I can understand how he feels but I just can't imagine not ever having another dog again.

@easyas123 I'm thinking if(hopefully when) we ever get another one, we're definitely going for smaller size, not small but medium....our guys are just huge(like double the size of our friends German Shepherds...lol) and a smaller dog seems more manageable. Oh and definitely shorter hair....lol Our dog hair situation is out of control.

We keep saying....a dog that can fit under the plane seat in front of us :rotfl2: , but I can't imagine a life without a Great Dane or Mastiff in my life.
Big dogs are all I've ever known. Before we got our bulldog, I'd never had a "small" dog before - which is how we got into fostering for the brachy dogs. I know one day one of them will become to hard to give up, maybe that is how I'll find my way into small dogdom!

Rain has started, cooled down a fair bit and looking forward to a rainy night.

I know. We always say that, too. We get so attached to our dogs. But when they go, or before, we always get another, and we wind up loving them just as much! :goodvibes

I’ve mentioned before, Toto is the first small dog we’ve had. We always had German Shepherds, too. (And loved each one so much!) It’s different, but good in a lot of ways. All that dog hair? Gone. Big poops? Gone. Messy car? Gone. Costs? Down. (Except grooming; probably evens out.) Our biggest issue is thinking about retirement and knowing if we want to go into a retirement community, a smaller dog will be preferable there. We can also take him away with us if we want to and it’s kind of fun. Nobody crosses the street anymore, lol. One of our female Shepherds was 106lb all her life. The vet used to always say, “Those six pounds are costing you a lot of money!” :P Of course, if the right dog comes along for us, all of that will go right out the window!

Yet her photographer was wearing combat boots.
Forgot to say the other night, that made me laugh! :lmao:

When Champ passed away, I truly was devastated. At that time I did not even want to think about getting another dog. I would not currently anyway because this apartment is so very small that it's not fair to a dog. Champ was only 10 1/2 when he died, too. for a small dog that is early :( He moved in here at age 5 so wasn't a young puppy though had plenty of energy. Our doggie friends don't live long enough, that's for sure. I am so glad a lot of you have gotten (and still are getting) to experience the love and devotion that only a canine friend can bring.

Wishing all of you a good night's rest :)

Good morning DIS family. 67 and muggy out, must have rained overnite, calling for 82 today.

I did not sleep well at all last nite, kept waking up after having bad dreams. I called the hospital at 3 am to voice my concerns to the nurse on duty about Don possibly being sent home today. He is not ready. He has only taken a few steps, to the chair, to the commode, etc. He needs to be able to walk at least a little distance, and we have 1 step coming into the house. Nurse said he didn't see anything in notes that indicated he would be discharged today. He said PT has to work with him more, they have to make sure the new antibiotic isn't causing other issues, infectious disease has to determine that the leg has healed enough etc. He said all depts involved have to sign off before someone can go home. In this case its PT, infectious disease, cardiologist, and last would be hospitalist. I know he doesn't like being there, I don't like him being there, but I also can't chance his being sent home just to fall and end up right back there again. The hospitalist has been in before visiting hours started so I wasn't there yesterday to hear anything that was discussed. And I was afraid the same thing was going to happen today. I figured if I talked to the overnite nurse while it was fairly quiet there..he could pass it on to the next shift nurse who will pass it on to hospitalist about my concerns. You guys are my sounding board, and I thank you for letting me get it out on here.

Have a nice day everyone
