Wow...last week flew by and again, I've missed so much.

@lynxstch so glad DH is doing better, hope he continues to improve and it home soon.

@tazdev3225 hope you SOiL is doing better.

@dazedx3 I'm so sorry about your poor pup. Huge hugs for you.

@Breezy_Carol hope you and DH feel better soon(and your grandkids too...)

@Kirby hope you have a safe drive. I hope the judge does something for your DD about her ex and his handling of the visitation....that's terrible. My cousin and her SO just got full custody of his daughter after her mom tried pulling junk like that over and over again. She most definitely did not have her daughters best interest in mind, just trying to stick it to her dad. :guilty:

Thanks to everyone else for sharing all your fun photos and trip details....I enjoyed them while trying to catch up.

And I'm sure there is more I'm missing but know I'm thinking about you all....

So after I posted last, I ended up going to San Francisco for the week with my hubby for work. So our really good friend started working with DH and this was his first time going to this job site. They knew they would be there the week so his wife and I ended up driving up the day after to join them. They guys had some early days off so we spent a lot of time at the hotel pool, met up with them for breakfast and lunch a couple times and even grilled some steaks one night at our hotel. We stayed at a residence inn so they have kitchenette and a lot of common areas to enjoy including a fire pit, picnic tables and BBQ grills. One day my friend and I drove into the city, we went to Chinatown and Fisherman's wharf. We ended up getting all kinds of goodies...sourdough from Boudins, chocolate, almond and fortune cookies from Chinatown, my friend got a lobster sandwich and I had popcorn shrimp....yum and ended up bringing back clam clowder for the guys for dinner that night.

Headed home Friday(with what seems like the rest of Northern California heading south...) Saturday, we relaxed during the day but ended up at their house for dinner and swimming.
Sunday, we celebrated the 4th, again going to their house for swimming and some yummy food.
Monday, we went to breakfast with our friends(we spend a lot of time with them...) and their kids(I can't remember who asked about still calling them "kids" when they are late 20s...because we do too....). The rest of the day was relaxing at home and getting ready to leave Tuesday, again to SF, with just DH for the week. No friends this time, but we'll still have a nice time. We had a good drive yesterday(about 7 hours from our house), got here fairly early and just enjoyed the room for the evening. I'll spend more time just at the hotel this time since I won't have a car but I don't mind. I have thank you cards to get sent out and I can go in the pool while DH is at work.

So if I could get some opinions or advice.... I'm sending thank you cards to everyone who sent flowers, plants, sentimental gifts, anyone who helped with the celebration of life by shopping for me, came early to help set up, and who sent money to help. But we got a lot of sympathy cards and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to send a thank you for those too...is that something you would expect a thank you card for?? I personally spoke with everyone who sent a card to thank them but I wasn't sure if I needed to send a card too.

Hopefully I can keep up again this week and don't get so far behind.

AuntieMe3-- I do not believe that a thank you card is necessary. It's just my opinion but that would seem a bit over done. I would send them out for anything more than a card. A card means they were thinking of you and wanted to express their concern, I don't think they expect anything more.

Thank you for your wishes about our dog, we are waiting for the pathology reports.

@tazdev3225--I actually like the first names..the middle not so much, lol.

Its thundering here and a few raindrops falling. Temp is 90

@AuntieMe3 I don't think you need to send a thank you card for a sympathy card. For gifts, help etc, yes. Sounds like you had a nice week, and that makes me happy!

Hubby was a little better today. The stepsons stayed for 1 1/2 hours, so I waited down in the cafeteria since you can only have 2 people up at one time. They wrapped the leg that had the blister on it,,and restarted 2 of his meds to try and keep his heart rate down and steady. They said his kidney function improved even more today, so that's good. I had a real issue with them this morning though. The nurse called me last nite, saying the pharmacist wanted to know if I could bring his Anoro in since they don't have any in the hospital. I said no problem. When I get there with it this morning, hubby tells me they gave him 3 different inhalers this morning. Albuterol, Spyriva (sp?) and another one that starts with a D. When the hospitalist came in , I asked who ordered those,,he said respiratory. I said how do we know he's not allergic to those 2, since he is allergic to Symbicort and it almost killed him??? He looked at the nurse..asked her if I gave her his Anoro..she said yes, and then said cancel those other 2 and don't give them to him again..DUH! They are saying 'maybe' Friday', but I am not counting on that. They had him up with the walker and he took a few steps,,but his leg hurts him so that's all he could do.

I waited 2 weeks for a tech from our cable co to come out. The guy comes in, I say I recorded a show, let me show you. He said I can tell you what it's doing..pixelated picture and 'video unavailable'? I said yes??? He said he has had 30 service calls in 2 days for the same thing. They know what the problem is..there is a broken chip inside a microwave thing up on top of a mountain that is affecting all stations coming from Baltimore and DC. I said then why isn't there a recording when you call telling you that. He said there was one,,for 1 1/2 days,,and then they took it down. So I waited 1 1/2 hours on the phone 2 weeks ago..the guy then told me they had noone else calling about the same problem..when they already had a ton of calls? This poor tech is going from house to house today,,for the exact same problem. All he can do is check the signals..which were perfect. He is on his way to the next call ..to tell them the exact same thing..He says I don't mind,,I get paid by the hour..and if I go past 6, which it will..it's overtime,,lol

I have time to take a nap before dinner now!
Have a nice afternoon everyone!

@dazedx3 🙏🏻 I hope you get some sort of good news. :worried:

@TazDev Congratulations! I actually like the names! :teleport: (I was going to ask you if Genevieve was pronounced JOHN VEE EV (as was the name of a girl I used to work with who was French), or GEN A VEEVE, but Evie makes it a moot point!

@Breezy_Carol Sorry you’re family is under the weather and hope you all feel better soon!

@AuntieMe3, So glad you had a beautiful trip like that, and glad you enjoyed the photos. We loved San Francisco when we visited (sister got married while living out there). I wasn’t sure what to do about thank you notes, either, but I took my cues from others I’d sent cards to who sent a Mass card back with a pre-printed thank you note (from the funeral home). It was a Herculean task, but when it was over, I didn’t have to worry about it anymore. (Kind of OCD about things like that.) I kept all the cards and gift cards on flowers, plants and Edible Arrangements, etc., so that made it easy.

@Flyingdumbo123 Thanks for your nice thoughts about Toto. He was in the pool today with DS before his afternoon shift, and he had a good time. He adores DS as I think it’s like young male bonding or something. He is very sensitive to his moods, and if DS is upset, he gets very upset, too. He only does it with him.

@lynxstch Continued thoughts and prayers. ❤

Got a lot accomplished around the house today. Spent a long time with my outside and inside plants, they sort of got away from me while we were away and afterward with the bad week we had. Made some plans w DS about updating his room while he starts his career and saves some money living at home. Paid bills. (Prices have gone up on everything. 🤕.) Made some banana bread. Hopefully can get out to the supermarket today or tomorrow. Haven’t decided about dinner tonight yet. Forgot to mention, last night when we went out to dinner we were by the ocean and had NE clam chowder, and super fresh fried scallops and haddock with tartar sauce, FF, onion rings and cole slaw. Too hungry to think of pictures, but it was good, and I still have half of the seafood platter! (Actually, gone now! :lmao: )

Taken from the house, not great quality, but he loves the water and the more splashing the better! :P

Do you have a walker for him at home? It might be helpful. Not understanding the inhaler issue as far as ordering goes, as orders have to come from a physician (not respiratory). When they order something/anything, a pharmacist has to check it against all other medications before it will be dispensed, so it should’ve been checked out pretty well. Just to assure you. Hope you can get some rest, it’s been so stressful for you these last several days! (Since last week, really!)

Prayers for the new babies, Taz Dev! I agree with Lynn that I don't much care for the middle names either. I do like the name Finn for a boy. Genevieve is pretty, just IMO, a bit old fashioned.

So good to see you, AuntieMe3! I'm so happy you have had some fun this trip. Please continue to do so and safe travels home. I agree that no thank you cards are needed. I'm sure you thanked all the guests for the present of their presence and support and love to you and your family, that my friend, is what counts.

Big hug Lynn and please do rest! Continuing prayers for your DH indeed! Yikes to the cable issue! Poor technician and I sure hope he resolved the issue for you!

Hooray for Toto having some water fun, Pea!

Please continue to lift my Dad in prayer. He had an unexpected update at a doctor appointment this morning. I have been purposely being vague simply to respect his wishes that not many know details and of course protect privacy. Just know that I am able to turn to my Quacker family means more than I can say. How grateful to God I am for each of you. Thank you all :grouphug:

Going in now myself! Shopping can wait! :rotfl2:

Yes we have one from when he was in Cardiac Rehab..the insurance company paid for a nice one. He also had a good cane. And the heart failure dept sent someone up to check on him, and said if we need a scale, or anything heart failure related, they will provide it. The hospitalist is the one who told me that respiratory is the one who ordered it..I get one story from one person and a different one from a different person. His cardiologist knew what inhalers he was on, so he wouldn't have ordered odd ones. And when they prescribed symbacort a few years ago..it supposedly wouldn't interact with any of his meds, or cause problems,,but yikes, it sure did! :( Yes,,stressful since last Friday night,,and it's not going to get much less stressful till he's home and settled comfortably. Thanks pea-n-me!

I have to edit and add, as I just got a call from the cardiologist office. She first wanted to tell me that they weren't going to send lab orders as they have done all the tests there in the last 2 days. Then I asked her WHO ordered those inhalers. She says it couldn't be respiratory as they cannot order the meds. It wasn't the cardiologist that she knows of , since it's not in his notes. So that means it had to be the hospitalist,,who says he didn't? You better believe I am going to find out tomorrow. I am going to stand there while the nurse looks at her computer and tells me who's name is on that order! Vent over (for now,,lol)

Having a lazy day here.

I just have a really good cold. Anyone remember the commercial “a summer cold is a different animal.” DD has sent pictures of the kids. Poor Tessa is just laying around. Carter does not look sick at all.

@AuntieMe3, I don’t think a thank you card is necessary for a sympathy card. When I send a sympathy card, I certainly don’t expect a thank you.

@flyingdumbo127, keeping your father in prayer.

I honestly don't know how they intend to pronounce it but she did get the name from a book of French names.

I think Fin would be ok if it were a boy but they are identical twin GIRLS, Just odd. I will keep your dad in my prayers.

I think my issue with the names is that I am not fond of my niece. I find her to be a bit snobbish and the names just sound pretentious to me because of it. I think a lot of my issue goes to when she got married and told me she didn't want me wearing my custom ankle brace because I had to wear a pair of sneakers that were slit on the side to accommodate it. Yet her photographer was wearing combat boots. But I was really hurt when her mothers 2 best friends were escorted and part of the wedding ensemble and in the "family" wedding pictures. When they announced they were taking family pictures I told my aunt we weren't family when she pulled me along to join in. To be turned away while the friends were included really hurt. Also the friends kids were all invited but my kids, her COUSINS, were not. She was like this even as a child. I don't think she has ever addressed me as "Aunt Lorrie" in her life but yet her mother insisted on good Southern manners. I must have missed the memo where your elders don't get titles of respect. I have tried explaining this to my mom who just doesn't get it because she thinks money equals quality. My niece makes a lot of money and her husband comes from old money, he's a trust fund baby that paid for his college and gives money towards their first house. Of course it is a huge single, with lots of space. I do get back at my mom now and then when she gushes about how wonderful she is. Mom doesn't like that.

If any of you have ever seen the British comedy Keeping Up Appearances you would get the comparison. My mother is Hyacinth "Bouquet" not Bucket. She puts on airs and acts like royalty. I am more like the sister Daisy, down to earth.

I did see the dr. today and a good thing. It was a huge blister on my foot but it was approaching an infection point. He drained it and I need to keep it bandaged with antibiotic ointment for a few days. Hopefully that will be all that is needed.

@lynxstch - glad your husband is doing a bit better. Good thing you are keeping on top of things. Hope he gets home soon.

You don't have to send cards for cards. (I looked it up after DH's brother passed away.)

Feel better Carol..I hate summer colds,,they are always the worst ones I get!

I’m sure the nurse will be happy to review that with you. They can click right on the order and scroll down to view it. (Your DH will have to give permission.) Is your DH in a teaching hospital? If so, then likely an intern wrote it, but it would have to be verbally approved by a superior when they round re the plan of care for your DH. All staff must be on the same page. Generally the hospitalist or Attending will outline a plan in his or her notes first, as well. That way everyone including the nurses are aware of the plan and goals of care, fine points, etc. If it’s not a teaching hospital, I’m not sure who orders things. If you have an online portal you should be able to read the notes, too, as well as test results, etc. I usually tell people you can, but don’t need to write names down as everyone’s name who is involved with his care has their name recoreded in the electronic medical record.

Thanks for the time you spend in answering these things for me! I really appreciate it!

Since visiting hours don't start till 10..they manage to sneak rounds in when there are no wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, etc around..and I don't like that. I like to know what is being said and being done. He does have a patient portal,,but it takes them forever to add something to it. I will have to keep an eye on it and see if there are any notes added soon. There were none yesterday..even test results take forever to get posted. I learned the hard way last time to take names,,lol. I had a list as long as my arm between our hospital and Univ of MD in Baltimore..it shouldn't be quite as long this time!

I don't know if it's a teaching hospital or not..I don't think so,,but its added that to my list of questions..I know Univ of MD is, but sure about UPMC MD. All I know is the hospitalist told me respiratory ordered it..and the cardiologist office says they can't, that it would have to have been the hospitalist. His daughter is there,,and just had to lay into his nurse..who is also the charge nurse. She was nice to me this morning..but tonite she came in to check his vitals, laid him flat down to have someone help her slide him up in the bed (in which position he can't breathe) and then answered her phone and started to walk away. Stepdaughter sternly said..he can't breath like like that..come back here and raise him back up. Good for her..The nurse said to whoever she was talking to.."I'll have to call you back' , got someone to help her shift him up, and did vitals. She said the dressing on his leg needs to be changed, I'll do that after dinner..Stepdaughter said , please do it soon after,,he's really tired and he needs to get some rest.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and love. I do have an encouraging update which is after an explanatory phone call from the doctor, Dad and I both feel very much relieved. Please send out extra Monday morning good prayers in Dad's direction. Thank you. I just wish doctors would take care to be completely upfront when sharing results with a patient! Should all the tests have not yet come back, say so! Don't present the update as though they have, that was what was frustrating earlier. God, always is good and with us, how Blessed we are indeed.

I liked your last post Lynn because of how thankful I am for Stepdaughter, good for her absolutely! It is so sad how patient basic CARE and caring can so easily be overlooked. Your DH is beyond Blessed to have you (first and foremost) along with the rest of his family as advocates and support.

Taz Dev, my mistake. I have never heard of a girl named Fin. Years ago I taught a preschool girl named Flynn which I thought was pretty. I also taught a boy at the same center named Finn. Hugs, to you and you know I quite agree with what you said. Being kind not on airs, IMO, is what matters!

Pea, you are such a lovely lady all-around. Your patients are so Blessed by you as are all of us :)

PollyannaMom, I hope you are keeping cool and having a good day, too :)
