Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Good afternoon. Only got up to 55 but feels colder. Not pleasant at all outside.

Busy morning after I got up for real. Met DD at the hair salon 20 minutes away before DGD's 9 am appt to bring DGS here to babysit since he still can't go back to daycare. Today was supposed to be girls day. We had one planned for May 2020 before DGS arrived but it never happened. After the hair cut appt and DGD had a dentist appt then the girls were going to do something fun. Well, we had DGS too. So I baby sat him during both of appts. And we went to the library to get her "1000 books before kindergarten" award. We had CFA for lunch and just played at Grandmom's this afternoon because it was too cold to go for a hike.

No great plans this weekend. Hazardous waste day at the landfill Sunday. DH is having his lawn mower tuned up at University of Delaware by the AG fraternity. Exciting stuff.

Hazardous waste day at the landfill Sunday.

Wow, that is exciting:tongue:
I say that as someone who has nothing at all going on this weekend besides chores! So a trip to drop off HazWaste would at least get me out of the house! Husband brought baby excavator home so we will most probably be pulling fence posts this weekend. It's also time to empty and clean the hot tub, so that is on my chore list tomorrow as well.

Dinner was a mishmash of bisquit bisguits , turtle soup from the freezer and potato chips. I'll do better tomorrow, a proper meal.

Hi y'all.

Well, things moved really quickly here this afternoon. DD#2 + family had planned on coming back to the states in November, and doing a 2 week trip here in FL, then to NE and WA for about 10 days total, to see all the new babies coming this year. DD and SoIL did some heavy talking and decided they couldn't take DGS#2 out of school (Kinder) for 2 months (quarantine before/after trip + winter break)...so they are planning on coming in June! They'll be here for just about 3 weeks, then a few days in NE and WA before heading home. She'll get to see all the baby bellies, but no babies, lol. (Well, hopefully they get the green light to come....since she's already moved their tickets and purchased park tickets....lol.) DGS#2 will not be vaccinated, but the adults will be (SoIL is and DD has her 2nd shot in 2 weeks), and feel the risk is low for DGS.

They also decided that, while they are here, they want to take a 4 night trip to WDW. They were talking to DH about it on the phone today. They asked to take DS with them, and we said that was fine (as he gets his 2nd shot on 4/27)....and then DH asked when they were going to be there and then the next thing I know, I'm booking us 4d passes as well. :rotfl2: The man hates crowds; we both hate heat and humidity....and we are going to WDW in the middle of summer......June 28-July 1. So, I'm now looking for a hotel room (not on property for us, as there are no rooms at the price we're willing to pay)....and I need to buy DS some shorts, as all he has are sweats and pants, and a new pair of shoes (which I need to do anyways, we just haven't been worried about it since the old ones are just a smidge too small, and he wears shoes about 15 minutes a day right now).

Why are we doing this? Because my silly DD convinced her father to go in on a VIP tour (they have to reserve on May 1st) for MK, and to stay and do HS...which snowballed into, well, why not AK and Epcot with the grandbaby?? :sad2:

It's been an interesting day......

Wow, that is exciting:tongue:
You are just jealous. :rotfl:

we are going to WDW in the middle of summer......June 28-July 1.
Two points, I have heard of at least two families who have gone to WDW recently and with the COVID restrictions, there have been no crowds, I can't remember where you live, but we live in Maryland and have been to WDW in August. It is no worse heat and humidity in Florida than Maryland. Go and enjoy!

Hubby was upset last nite. Got a text from one of the managers at work
I forgot to say that it is good your hubby retired when he did.

Lynn, I hope the singulair indeed helps your DH.

You did have a busy morning, Carol. Continued prayer for Carter. Aw that is sweet the book award for your DGD :)

Easyas, I hope you take some time to enjoy your hot tub after it's cleaned!

B&B, so glad you have a WDW trip to look forward to! Prayers it is a lot of fun for all :)

Have a good night, friends.

Busy day and a quick drop in. Please say some extra prayers for my daughter and her family. My youngest grandson Benny now has all the symptoms of Covid and my daughter is showing some mild symptoms. She worked for months in the ICU with nothing but Covid patients and was fine now I have to worry about all of them. Thankfully the oldest grandson seems to be getting a little better. My daughter has ITP which is the condition showing up with the blood clots so she hasn't been able to get the shots yet for fear that she could develop complications. Now I have to worry all over again. I am trying so hard not to cry but I am terrified for them. I know the risks of it being serious are small but Benny and my daughter would be the ones to develop complications.

Hope everyone has a good night. I'm off to bed to read a bit and hopefully sleep.

I am keeping in prayer that the congregation will have input in this! Greater transparency and church wide communication sure is needed!
Prayers for your church. I know what it's like to not be able to have a say in who is minister for our church. I enjoy the church I attend but the board (Elders) are the ones who make the decisions. Of course we can let them know what we think but our last minister was chosen before we even knew that we were looking for one. There was extenuating circumstances, our head minister has Parkinson's so they had been putting out feelers for someone for the time that he said he couldn't preach anymore. The person was chosen and in place fairly quickly. I like him but would have liked to at least been able to say yay or nay.

@TazDev, prayers lifted.

It rained off and on from about 2:00 yesterday afternoon till about noon today. We needed it so much! Had some thunder bumpers but nothing serious. Lil Joe's t-ball game was canceled last evening. I imagine he will make it up next week. Temps have been in the 60's during the day and 50's at night. And I had just gotten used to wearing capris and short sleeved shirts.

Picked up groceries at Kroger in the rain this morning and made a bank run. The tellers at the bank give out Dum Dum suckers to the kids and Lil Joe and Lou Lou love the mystery ones. The tellers save them for them.

Had dinner at Cotton Patch with a couple we used to go out to eat with just about every week before Covid. It was good to see them. And wouldn't you know that another couple that I have known all my life walked in. It was good to see them, we went to the same church growing up. I haven't seen them in a long time.

And then DH and I went back to Kroger for some groceries that I wanted to pick out for myself. He snuck in a box of Hostess cupcakes. Or at least I only saw one box, I discovered the second box when I was putting away the groceries. 😄

Good morning DIS family! Going to be another low 50's day here, then the temps starting going back up. Will finish yardwork today while it's cool. At least I can move this morning, last nite I was so stiff, I could barely get up from a sitting position. My knees just aren't what they used to be.

@easyas123--I am not jealous of your getting to take a trip to HazMat just to get out of the house, but am jealous that you have a hot tub to clean and then get into. I have wanted one of those forever, but since I am the only one who would use it, and have to take care of it, it never made any sense!

Hubby's leg feels better, he was walking around the house last nite without his cane, so things are looking up there. He took his first singulair last nite before bed,,and at 3 am he says to me (while I am 3/4 asleep), "I think the singulair is working , I don't feel as stuffed up". I hope it is, but I don't think it could have started to work after only 6 hours? LOL!

Have a nice morning everyone, make it a nice weekend!

Good morning! 🐣 Been working, and pretty exhausted. Had some nice and interesting patients over the past week.

Prayers said for all who need them. 🙏🏻

Not up to much. Working on estate stuff. Ugh. Hope to get some yard work done this weekend if weather cooperates. Got soaked yesterday in freezing rain leaving work so DH rain into the store instead and made us a meatloaf dinner with carrots and mashed. It was so good on a cold, rainy day! We watched a movie last night with DD, A Star Is Born. I watched it last week and wanted DD to watch it as I thought it was interesting about addictions (for her role as a newer nurse). Anyone see it? Thoughts? I enjoyed the movie and liked the cast and music.

The water heater in our in-law apt cracked and water was all over the cellar floor. Guy who built the place coming tomorrow. And our gas dryer STB. Thankfully we have another laundry area in the apt. Will try to fix it as it’s a matching set. Always something!

Going out to dinner with friends tonight. First time doing that in a long time. We’re all immune but will still wear masks and such. Now just deciding where to go. Decisions, decisions.

Has anyone talked to @apirateslifeforme? I hope everything is ok there, they had those losses.

Where do people buy men’s suits? DS has to get one for job interviews. Probably best to find separates as his torso is muscular but waist is slim. DH always had the same problem, but we don‘t buy many suits. (Last time DH went out to get him and DS suits it cost $1K when all was said and done 😳 , I think at Men’s Warehouse. I’m sure we can do better than that, can’t we?) Was looking online at Kohl’s and Macy’s. We got him an outfit for Mom’s services at Macy’s last year and they didn’t seem to have much to choose from. And it was appropriate for that, but not for job interviews, so looking for something classic. We don’t have any JC Penney’s around, and I think he’ll need to try things on, so can’t really order online. Thanks for any ideas you might have!

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and the weather is good! 🌷

Just a quick update. I am not doing to well this morning. My daughter worsened overnight and went to the hospital this morning. She was vomiting all night and pins and needles through her body. She has always dehydrated easily so hopefully that is all that is wrong but she does have platelet issues that can get bad when she is ill. I am just so scared and worried that I cannot think straight. Thank you all so much just for being a sounding board and a support system.

I HATE this virus.

Sending prayers for both you and your daughter to feel better soon! We are always here to support you! :grouphug:

We live in FL, lol...about 2-1/2 hours from the backside of WDW. I just dislike the humidity. We lived in So NV and in AZ for about 6 years and I coped better with 'dry heat' than I do with the 'sauna'.

We started walking....seriously....this morning, to get ready. We've been doing little walks for the last few months (I struggle with a bad hip/knee/ankle combo, on one leg, along with an inner ear issue that makes balance hard for me) slowly, but today we ramped up. For me, I can walk slowly for longer distances, with a few small breaks or I can walk fast for short distance with more breaks...trying to amp back up to walk fast for long distances with few break..... So, for me, to have walked a mile in 20 minutes, at a faster pace than I usually walk, is a big thing.

(((huggles)))

Stay strong, mama.

Tazdev.... Sending many prayers that you're daughter has a quick recovery. Moms never stop worrying about their kids. Keep us informed and we are always here.

I am having surgery on the 30th to repair a torn meniscus, hoping it will give me some pain relief. It happened back in October, but we had so many other medical issues going on that it was put off. We reached our out of pocket so now is a good time.

Finished weedwacking,,am watching Prince Philip's funeral now. Sad to see Queen Elizabeth sitting all by herself. I guess they have to stick to the 6 foot rule..but it seems a lot of them are farther apart than that. Kate is all by herself in a box. Such a long life the Prince lived..RIP

Good morning.

Dang. I started this then got distracted. Must finish. I have a short attention span sometimes.

@tazdev3225, prayers for your family, especially your daughter, and for you. I know what it is to worry about family. And as dazed said, mom's never stop worrying. I remember my mom in her 90s worrying about me driving home from her place.

Re: minister placement at churches. In the Methodist church, the bishop and district superintendent appoint pastors. The term usually begins July 1 so if the chair of pastor-parish relations gets up to speak in March, we know something is changing.

We watched a movie last night with DD, A Star Is Born. I
I assume you watched the Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga one. I think the Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson version was better but I enjoyed them both.

Where do people buy men’s suits?
DH has gotten them at the Brooks Brother outlet store.

This is ironic. We went to Phoenix, AZ several years ago. Living my entire life in the humid mid-Atlantic region, I couldn't stand the dry heat. I had to go buy saline nasal spray just to be able to breath and eye drops for dry eyes.

I am having surgery on the 30th to repair a torn meniscus,
Good luck! I hope this brings you relief.

We were supposed to be home from 12-4 this afternoon for a lumber delivery. Luckily we were home because he came early. Now we have the rest of the day to play.

Good Morning 🐣

Much prayer, Taz Dev, that both your daughter and grandsons are feeling better today. Also that you were able to get some rest last night. We care and are here, my friend. Hugs! ETA I just read your awful update. I am so sorry. This virus is just terrible all-around. Many, many prayers my friend and much care! :grouphug:

Thank you, Kirby. I am sorry about your head minister. Thank you for understanding. Sadly my current church for such a long time as operated in some under the rug ways which I found out more about during this pandemic. The whole thing is so sad and wrong. I do still feel called by God to stick around…as I have posted, He has put into my heart a new ministry idea (post pandemic). Meantime and always I do know His will, will be done. Sweet of the bank tellers to save the dum dums and how lovely to run into old friends. I did have to Google “Cotton Patch” as I never heard of that restaurant. So glad you got to do that and lol to your DH and his sneaking extra hostess. I hope he enjoys them :)

Such a cute Pooh and friends picture, Lynn. Take care and feel better please!

I hope you did have a nice dinner Pea and that the repairman does a good job! I last heard via PM from, Apirateslifeforme on Monday. IIRC her son was on Spring break this last week. Definitely hope all is well for her. I’m sorry to not be of any men’s suit help for you. I hope Penney’s survives the pandemic out here! Otherwise there will only be Kohl’s and maybe (if it lasts) Macy’s, which I really don’t shop at.

Good for you, B&B to have gotten into walking :) Post pandemic, I look forward to taking (much shorter) neighborhood strolls.

Prayers for your upcoming surgery, DazedX3 to go very smoothly and well!

I’m glad the lumber delivery guy came early, Carol! I hope your grandson continues to feel better, too!

 to all

This is probably WAY too much info, and don't feel like you have to read, but it's interesting reading the church leadership info here. My church is a non-denominational, independent church, so we do all our own recruitment/hiring. The process typically goes something like this, and this is for all major positions. (i.e. children's minister, youth pastor, senior pastor, music/worship arts minister, etc.)
1. Search committee is formed with pastor, one member of the elders and deacon board, plus "at large" members. (or other main leadership position, if senior pastor is the open position)
2. Position, with requirements/wording approved by elder board is posted on website and church recruitment sites.
3. Applications and resumes are submitted.
4. Search committee narrows it down based on applications
5. Phone interviews are conducted
6. Video/in person interviews conducted
7. Candidate and spouse visit church, but no one but the committee and elder/deacon boards knows. This is to assure the candidate can see if the church is a good fit without everyone watching them, and without feeling he/they is/are on display. They see us "as we really are" and we can't "put on a show" for them either.
8. Candidate is presented to the congregation with basic, relevant info shared about experience, where they are from, etc.
9. Candidate is invited back a second time. He may preach if his position would lead to that.
10. Possible third visit. Preaching may occur on either the 2nd or third visit
11. Special congregational meeting is held on the Sunday evening, and anyone can ask questions.
12. Congregational/member vote is held.

By the time we get to step 12, it's almost just a formality at that point. There has been so much thought and process up to this point, that we trust the board and search committee. We've never had a candidate who gets to point 12 fail a vote, and it is usually only one or two "no" votes. It's a very involved process, but one we feel very confident in.

Also, at some point during the question and answer session (step 11) if the candidate is from out of town, the candidate will most likely be asked "How do you feel about the St. Louis Cardinals?" It is a sign of affection from us, and a sign that we like you and all the major hurdles have been cleared. We've had some interesting/entertaining answers to that one.

This last time we had to fill the senior pastor roll, we knew well in advanced, as it was a retirement, and just called our (at that time) youth leader to fill the senior pastor roll. Even then, though we knew him so steps 1-9 weren't really needed, he still had a question/answer session and there was still a formal vote. And he was still asked if he would change his views on the St. Louis Cardinals. (Phillies fan) xD
