Question of the day: 4/10: Share a good memory.

I would have to share the same one I shared under your vacation question. Shortly after we were married, we took a week long trip to Ohio. To a cabin nestled in the middle of nowhere. Private pond to fish on, nothing to do but relax and enjoy ourselves. We took long walks, we watched old movies, we found out of the way restaurants to eat at . Between that and our honeymoon at WDW, those are 2 of my favorite memories.

Our weather here in Western MD was crazy today. It was 34 degrees this morning. First the sun was out, then I looked out and it was snowing? Didn't stick but was almost more snow than we saw all winter, lol. It was once again very windy, scary windy at times.
I managed a quick trip to CVS for hubby's scripts, a quick run into Aldi's for fresh fruit, picked up an online order at PetSmart, and made a quick stop into Walmart, which wasn't very busy at all. No paper products or cleaning stuff like spray, liquids, or wipes though. Shelves were bare (good thing I didn't really need them).
Going to make a short trip tomorrow just to get mulch and potting soil for the garden and plants. Then we should be home for the entire next week, barring any emergencies that come up

I hope my DIS family has a peaceful Good Friday. Tina, sorry about Matt's grandma and your Mom--enjoy your dinner, sounds good!

This is a Disney meets Easter memory. It was 2004, both kids in high school so couldn't pull them from school for vacation. We went for ~4 days before Easter. Flew home on Easter Sunday. I think the flight was delayed. What I remember is eating Easter dinner at Sbarro in the Orlando airport. :rotfl2:

Here is northeastern MD, it also snowed briefly. When the storm came through last night, I was actually frightened by the terrible wind and rain.

Lynxstch, until I read about your name on another thread, I thought it was Lynx (Like a wild cat) stch (stitch). Now I know it is Lyn cross stitch.

I was in basic training, Fort Jackson South Carolina, US army base for basic and advance low skill training (71L). Our training was split in half because of Christmas. So we were able to go home on our own nickel, so I choose a three night ride from South Carolina to Palm Springs. The ride was perhaps my greatest outing of my life. But what I remember was sitting down on that Trailways Bus Dec 18th, 1981 and feeling all of the stress , exhaustion, strain, pressure of daily life as a recruit in basic training leaving my body..... I could feel my body collapse and know that I was free....for awhile. and the freedom over the holiday...that I did not take for granted....every minute precious....and all those 1981 pop culture songs over the radio.

A good memory:

We have this little stuffed turkey we sometimes use as a Thanksgiving decoration. Many years ago (like...20?), for some reason the turkey was in our old Chevy Celebrity. My wife grabbed it and would randomly peek it up over the car window and yell "gobble gobble!" at oncoming traffic. It was hilarious for no real reason.

Meanwhile, the wheel of movies failed us yesterday. We watched 6 Underground, the Netflix Michael Bay/Ryan Reynolds movie. It was terrible!

Today's movie is Four Weddings and a Funeral

Prayers Tina continuing for Matt's Grandma. I love how you put that staying at home longer will better enable us to celebrate and hug our loved ones. That said, it really seems like forever today :( LA has officially been extended through at least May 15th. I sadly would be surprised if that were not added to. But, today is still a Blessed day and one that I am extra thankful for--Good Friday. That is my above all else gratitude for today and every day. I will say the same thing on Easter Sunday.

Three other things I am grateful for this Friday:

That my Dad was able to safely do laundry and some other shopping.
To have received an Amazon delivery of a box containing 8 ultra soft Kleenex (the flat, big boxes) this morning.
A couple nice Easter cards in the mail.

A Good Easter-related memory would be from 2016 which was my first Sunrise Easter service at my church. I was in the choir at that time and part of this service is that members of the choir "dress the Sanctuary" which means quietly bringing the paraments along with Holy Communion trays up and onto the Holy Communion Table along with Easter Lilies to place along our Chancel area that people were able to purchase (in honor or memory of someone). This service as I have shared on here before is so dear to my heart. To be witness that first time to light breaking forth as Jesus Rose anew within me was a precious. I have since always attended this special service.

We went to San Diego with older DS and DDIL.We met up with our good friend who was a bridesmaid in our wedding. We had a nice dinner with her and her mother. Her mother , 88 at the time, flirted with DH. She was such a fun lady. The next day we toured the Midway. It was amazing. It made me think of my Dad and Fil who were in WW II, Dad in Europe and Fil on a ship in the Pacific. We toured a brewery too. We went from San Diego to the Grand Canyon and then Sedona. It was a fantastic trip. Lots of good memories.

A good memory?
Taking my mother and aunt on a camping trip. One was in her late 80's, the other in her early 70's. It was their first and last one, or as Mom said, she could scratch that off her bucket list and never do it again LOL. Listening to talk about their mother and grandmother gave another side to Grandmother and to the tellers as well. I could well imagine their childhood and the incidents that made impressions on them.

Quiet night here. Just the adults again so I made garlic soup with croutons and spinach. Bowls of raspberry sorbet and vanilla ice cream for dessert. TCM is showing "The Wizard of Oz" tonight and it'll stay on as long as I'm on the computer since neither of us have an interest w/o the young one around. The non busy time is useful as I make last minute changes to our Easter dinner menu.

Question of the day: 4/10: Share a good memory.

My favorite Easter memories:
  • big egg hunts at my cousin's house when I was little
  • our baskets being hidden along with the eggs (Once, I found mine in the drier!)
  • taking DS to egg hunts when he was little, and
  • his favorite Easter book - that we read over & over

Hi all and Happy Thursday,

Well we had excitement here last night and I didn't like it. About 8:30pm I'm reading a book and Matt's upstairs and I'm yelling "do you hear that?" and about time Matt comes flying down the stairs yelling tornado warning our phones are going crazy with the siren thing. I flip the tv over to local channel and weather guy is saying take cover in your safe spot and get there now. I'm like WTH is going on?!? I grab couple blankets and he grabs some pillows and we hit the inner closet on first floor. Maybe 6 minutes in and all crazy broke loose with wind and storms and it hadn't been raining or anything! We are laying there and he has the weather on my phone and I'm trying to text a good friend of mine in the country that doesn't have cable or local tv to get to the safe spot. At same time, I'm telling Matt I can do pandemic or a tornado but I ain't down for both! Finally had the all clear and looked outside. Everything seemed fine. Our deck furniture had been shoved and pushed all over and the grill had been moved sideways, which is impressive because the Weber is heavy! A house in the neighborhood was hit by lightning and the firetrucks and stuff were there. Overall we were safe and that's all that matters.

With the weather and the virus going on, I am feeling completely out of control today and spent the morning getting myself re-centered. I worked on what can I do that makes a difference and what can I do here to keep things going. I also stumbled on marathon of Psych on USA which one my favorite shows so I have been a couch potato today.

Dinner is sloppy sweet potatoes with garlic green beans. You can bet I'm eating some cake today!

Gratitude:
1. The weatherman on TV telling locations and times and very reassuring.
2. We are safe and little damage from all that happened.
3. It's beautiful day even if cold.

Sending love, peace and good health to all.
Oh wow. Just holy wow! Glad you are ok. I’m with you... can handle pandemic OR weather. Not both!

I like to bake ( and DH likes to eat) so win, win! I like to scrapbook. Trying to decide if I should start a few pages about corona or wait until I have more information.

A favorite memory. I got to see DD about 4 weeks ago. Had no idea we wouldn’t get to have her home for Easter. But we had a really nice weekend together. That will have to do for now.❤️

Hi All and Blessed Good Friday,

I'm sorry for the late check in. It's been hectic day here. My husband's grandma is not doing well and my mom's anxiety disorder is in overdrive and we have spent good portion of our day on the phones trying to figure out what we are doing. I ended up on Facebook Messenger doing breathing exercises with my mom and he ended up ordering gluten free goodies to be sent to his grandma with some spring flowers. (he has been married long time and knows what makes me better lol) Needless to say just long day in our house.

It's beautiful but cold day here and we did get a good, long walk in to talk everything out about how to move forward. It's hard when you just want to run over and hug that person all better and can't be done right now. Matt told me this morning he wants me to take the shears and trim up his hair. He and I might need a hug after that event. I should live stream it LOL

Dinner tonight is ode to my grandparents: crock pot pinto beans, fried potatoes with onions and peppers and homemade creamed spinach with cornbread.

I hope everything is going well for you all. We are still making it and though it is hard we are all strong. Every day is one day closer to being done and frankly the more we stay at home the more we will be able to celebrate and hug our loves ones when it is time to do safely. We can get through this.

Peace and good health to all.
How many years have you and Matt been together and during all of those years, have you ever cut his hair? I bet there will be lots of interesting haircuts during this stay at home time.

First off I'm glad you guys are ok. Mother Nature freaks me out. I live in California so we mostly just have earthquakes to worry about and we don't know about them until they happen so no freaking out ahead of time.:laughing: We have some major winds here, I'm sure nothing like a tornado or anything but OMG...they freak me out. I can't imagine being in an actual tornado or hurricane. :scared1:

Question of the day 4/9: What's a favorite hobby or activity for relaxing?

What do you do to relax? Do you have a hobby?

I feel like I don't have any hobbies anymore. I used to scrapbook and papercraft but I don't do that anymore. I used to read but I don't do that anymore either. LOL I do like to veg out and watch TV and I like doing puzzles games, word finds, hidden pictures, stuff like that.

Question of the day: 4/10: Share a good memory.

So a funny Easter memory from when my daughter was young...my husband was going to be working on Easter so my daughter and I decided to go down to my aunts a day earlier for the family Easter celebration. When we got there, I got our clothes out but I left some other stuff in the car not thinking anything of it. It was really warm that day, the kids were all swimming and having fun, excited about what the Easter Bunny was going to bring them. That night after the kids went to bed, I went out to the car to get the rest of the stuff and realized the EASTER BUNNY left everything for my daughters basket in the trunk and the candy was all melted. :scared: Oh my gosh...the chocolate bunny was hilarious!!! I'm going to try to post a picture...hopefully it works...487033

Yay it worked....so that's the little bunny melted against the plastic on the front of the box.

:laughing:Thankfully my aunt had extra stuff to make add to my daughter's basket. Soo funny we still crack up about it.

I was in elementary school and we lived next door Incan apartment complex.

Well, it started to snow and they were going to let school out early.( Cause we are not a big snow state).
Kids are looking out the window at the snow and see a golf cart roll up.
It was my dad to come and get me,lol.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's memories. I would like to share one from WDW.

It was last October. It was our first day of vacation in AK. We decided to stop by the Nomad Lounge between fast passes. We had drinks and appetizers. Completely low key and unplanned. One of my favorite memories of the whole trip.

I skipped yesterday, just wasn't feeling like posting. Kinda of a blah day. I made French toast from this hazelnut spread brioche bread that Fresh Market carries sometimes (it has hazelnuts on top too, so some crunch), to break in the new griddle, with some maple sausage. Came out very nicely. We had the leftover Chinese for a late lunch/early dinner, and then I baked some of those premade cookies from the dairy aisle (Reese's pb with Reese's pieces in them) in the countertop oven. (that thing is a blessing. It doesn't heat up the whole house like the oven and only takes 5 minutes to heat. I use it to make frozen pizzas, roast veggies, toast bread/bagels, bake chicken/pork/reverse seared steaks, etc. Still use the regular oven for baking breads/cakes, and other big meals, but the little one is very convenient.)

So, my funny memory is the time that DD#2 shaved DH's head.

It was DH's . He was thinning and decided to just take the plunge and go all in bald, instead of having those whispy strands not really covering anything. LOL DD said she would help, so they went into the bathroom and he sat where the washer and dryer were supposed to be (we didn't have a set at the time)....and gave her the clippers.

She went straight down the middle...like a reverse mohawk. Stopped and said "oops". (kinda had that look on her face, haha) I don't think she realized all the hair would go off. Then she asked "Are we doing all of it?" :lmao: He told her "yes, I'm not going around like this" and she got all indignant (like only a 6 year old girl can) and huffed back "Well I didn't know", then started shaving again.

So, DH hasn't had hair on the top of his head since 1999, and I have a humerous story to tell about the time DD#2 shaved her dad's head.

.so that's the little bunny melted against the plastic on the front of the box.
That reminds me of a sad, but not tragic for me, memory. Growing up, we were right down the street from a strip shopping center that included a Reads Drug Store. It was right before Easter and they had lots of chocolate bunnies in the window. The store had a fire and the bunnies all melted in the window. It made me so sad.

One of my favorite memories is my husband teaching our dog how to go down stairs.

We rescued our beagle when he was 11 months old, and he had never been in any sort of home environment before. The first couple weeks we kept him downstairs until he warmed up to us and we could see how potty training went, then we decided that he could be allowed upstairs with us. He was a little nervous but went 3/4 of the way up the stairs like a champ. Then, he suddenly stopped, looked over his shoulder behind him, and literally pushed himself off the steps backwards, no idea how he didn't land wrong and break his back or a leg. So, my husband walked up the stairs on all fours with him, took him to the top and then walked down the stairs with him still on all fours teaching him how stairs work , they did this a couple times until the beagle was proficient :rotfl2:. We probably could have used treats or something to accomplish this, but my husband's method was so much more entertaining.
