Question of the day: 4/4 What are you doing for self-care?

Well, being retired, not much for us has changed, other than not seeing the rest of the family enough.
I think we try to get outside and walk.....but now allergy season is here and the heat is soon to follow, so that will stop.
We are seeing the family tomorrow for DH's birthday......that will make me feel better than anything. They have been in isolation for from 2-4 weeks, so I am happy to see them.
DH and I did foot care today.....felt so good. Soak, scrub, sanding and lotion. I think that will be a weekly thing.

We never do take out anyway, so nothing has changed for that.

My self care is acupuncture and/or massage usually. Our acupuncturist had to temporarily close her practice so I've had to postpone both of our appointments twice. Same with massage therapist. BUT we've been getting a lot done around the house & farm, and we make it a point to stop at a pre determined time in the late afternoon for cocktails and to reflect on what we've accomplished, and that is actually pretty filling mentally!
Neither of us has to be at work on Monday, a abnormality usually - we are thinking of packing a picnic and taking a drive somewhere for a isolated long walk. Luckily we live in an area that lends itself to this activity.

And I'm making peanut butter blossom cookies tomorrow, which has me way more excited than it should...

:rolleyes1Self-care? Well, I just finished scrubbing all three bathrooms so I won't die of whatever it is about a grungy toilet that will kill you, so there's that. Seriously though, tonight I'll take a bubble bath and tomorrow I'll box-colour my hair before returning to my office on Monday. I can't do anything about the shaggy look (I really need a trim) but they haven't seen me since March 12 and I don't think any of us are ready for me with 3 weeks of roots.

:worship:Today I'm thankful for literally losing track of time because when I look out the window, it's still light out at 8:14 pm. Praise God for DST and the Spring Equinox. Here in the North we go through many long, dark, relentless months of winter waiting for the light to return and now, here it is!! :sunny:

For self-care, I’ve been doing a lot of masks (alternating pore clearing and moisturizing). I did one of those foot peels, so there’s been a lot of foot soaking going on. I ordered a bunch of stuff from Basin to make showers a bit more luxurious. We’re constantly burning our Magic Candle Company wax melts. Eating a lot of ice cream (that may not be “care” but it is mental care).

In this household self care is walking for both the man and me. Currently, I've also taken up stair walking to take the place of pool laps. The building has an exercise room but it's currently closed so I stick DGD's air pods in and do aerobics to you tube a few times a week.

After organizing the house toiletries, realised there is enough stuff for us to have a spa afternoon, masks and all.
Arranging one for next weekend.

We are celebrating Passover early due to the fact "The Ten Commandments" is on, LOL.
Matzo ball soup with braised short ribs, veggies, egg noodles and lots of parsley and dill.
A radish salad and ice cream parfait.

Uhhh....nothing really. I'm being doing absolutely nothing so maybe allowing myself to by lazy right now is my self care. :confused3 I do have some face masks and foot masks I could do but it just seems like too much. LOL

Sounds like the perfect answer to me. I am also taking long hot soaks in the tub, deep conditioning my hair, and getting outside to get fresh air every day. Oh..and I need to box color my hair today, does that count? Hubby says let it go gray, why do men say that? :confused3

Question of the day: 4/4 What are you doing for self-care?

Yesterday, it was getting lost in TV and movies. I just needed to not think about everything going on for a while.

I watched a couple episodes of Sherlock with DH, Young Sheldon with DS, and then Onward on Disney+ last night (with popcorn and Swedish fish!)

...and we make it a point to stop at a pre determined time in the late afternoon for cocktails and to reflect on what we've accomplished, and that is actually pretty filling mentally!
What a great idea!

...absolutely nothing so maybe allowing myself to by lazy right now is my self care.
That counts! - especially if you had a crazy busy schedule before, and really needed some down time.

Question of the day: 4/4 What are you doing for self-care?

My job has been so much busier than usual I hardly have time to think let alone worry about self care.

Things I have been doing that make me feel good:
Keeping up walking the dog and taking walks myself and with my husband.
Letting my nails go without polish, it has been a while since they have had a break.
I switched to daily contact lenses and so far I really like them.
Cocktails: I have been trying out new recipes and ideas, especially with the lemons I got from my neighbor's tree.
Baking and cooking: trying some healthier recipes or recipes to use up food so it doesn't go to waste, definitely enjoyable and gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Audiobooks: so great to listen to while cooking or cleaning or walking, and they are free from the library.

Today is a sunny beautiful day here in Western MD.:sunny:
I am grateful for the beautiful weather-
I am grateful that my husband's fever broke and the antibiotic is starting to work-and no trip to the ER or Urgent Care was needed!
I am grateful I was able to go the store this morning and get almost everything on my list (I added to the corner of our cellar I refer to as the bomb shelter now, as it's full of extra things like TP, paper towels, napkins, kleenex, dry cat food, canned cat food, boxes of litter, bags of bird seed, cases of water, etc. )
I am grateful that I can go outside and do 'normal' Spring things like take out the chairs, tables, etc.
Happy Palm Sunday DIS family--enjoy the day!

Happy Palm Sunday from me, too, Dis Family.

I am grateful today for:

Some extra rest this morning

Palm Sunday service online and it being shared that there will be a Good Friday online Worship service as well.

I mentioned yesterday how much I enjoyed a romance book. I sent an email to the author last night telling her that and of course wishing her well. She wrote me a kind reply in return.

I skipped yesterday's question because I was having an off day. Today, I'm feeling better....a hot bubble bath with a romance novel, music in the background, and a glass of wine did the trick.

I have short ribs braising in the oven, and I'm going to make a polenta and some roasted brussel sprouts to go with it. We had baked tilapia and broccoli/carrots/cauliflower for lunch (since I didn't make it yesterday, the fish HAD to be cooked today).

Happy Sunday to all.

We had a good online Mass today for Palm Sunday. It's bit surreal to still be starting Holy Week at home. Matt was teasing because I still showered and I guess put on my nice stay home clothes on. No pjs for Mass! Still trying to figure it out. Sitting on the couch doesn't seem right so we sit on the floor and kneel on pillows. In the end it's the message and the open heart not the pretty details that make or break it.

Did I mention we had take out last night? It was our first real time since this all started and it was odd and to me uncomfortable. It took away from the social and relaxing aspect of eating out when I have to wait in my car for someone to bring out the food wearing a mask and gloves and talking while not looking at each other. I told my husband it felt like pizza and side of possible plague. It was just another reminder of how life is right now. I was really impressed with number of people out getting food at various restaurants though!

It's been really quiet here today. We are doing a very large zoom gathering this evening to visit with Grandma and will watch the country music from home show tonight. It's nice reminder we are all in this suck together. Although, Carrie Underwood has her full face on. I'm going to need her embrace her inner fat girl pants and relax no make up like the rest of us. I did hear funny saying this morning on our local news. Quarantine 15..the weight put on while we are at home. I did laugh. I guess I'll start putting on pants that button or maybe dress just to make sure I'm still doing good and not getting the 15.

I hope all is doing well and we are getting through this. I know it's about to get super scary and ugly from the news. We can and will get through this. Every day is another day closer to being done and coming out on the other side. Keep the faith and control what you can and send good thoughts into the universe for all we can't.

Gratitude today:
1. Great church leaders who are doing the best they can with situation they have.
2. Good neighbors checking in on each other
3. The smart people that made flavored coffee creamer. It gives me the cream and sugar without having to do both. I'm lazy :)

Peace and good health to all.

Question of the day: What's a favorite family dinner?

Typically Sundays here is family dinner that is big meal for the week because we'd be going every direction. I'm cooking pasta tonight with leftover chicken so no big dinner tonight. I think one of our favorite family dinner meals is stuffed chicken/pork chops, loaded mashed potatoes and spicy brussel sprouts.

Favorite family meal?
It changes frequently, LOL.

Right now DGD loves "that chicken with the nuts and oranges and rice" aka spicy lacquered wings.
The man craves meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, with broccoli any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
I enjoy making a roast chicken once every two weeks or so since there is so much to do with the leftovers. Don't care what side dish as long as has lots of the color green.

One of ours is Taco Soup. It is super easy, and one batch makes enough for a couple of meals for our family of 4.

2lbs ground beef or turkey
1 large yellow onion
2 cans black beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can rotel tomatoes
1 can diced green chillis
1 can corn
1 packet taco seasoning
1 packet ranch dressing mix
Splash of liquid smoke

Brown meat and onions in a large pot. Drain the oil/fat. Add all cans including their juices. Add a dash or two of liquid smoke. Simmer for 30 minutes.

Add sour cream, mexican cheese mix, avacado/guac, and serve with tortilla chips.

The next morning, take a ladle of it, and add it to your scrambled eggs for a nice tex-mex breakfast.

Right now DH seems to like the Turkey Stroganoff that I make. It is good and is fairly healthy. We also like a Pasta Fagioli soup that is very easy to make. We usually have salad and bread with it.

Right now I am pretty stressed out and anxious about when this is going to get better. I haven't seen my grandkids in person in over a month. Just had to get that out. So my 3 bright spots:

Walking every day I can
Video chats with the kids and grandkids
The dog is happy we are home more
