Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

Happy Friday everyone. We have indeed helped encourage one another through the week for which I am so grateful :) Today has been such a day of extra Graces of God that I will include as my three positives :)

At the laundrymat this morning, the attendant, gave my Dad and I each a mask from her extras. Dad had made a home made mask out of a T shirt. It worked fine other than his not being able to completely breathe properly :p

A dear friend from church, as a complete act of kindness, let me know she ordered me a bunch of stamps. This will allow me to send more cards out to church family and friends.

As I said yesterday, I am truly grateful today is Friday. Have three stay at home completely days in a row now. Looking forward to my church's Palm Sunday online service.

Stay safe and well all!

Today what made me laugh was my furbabies. Their silly antics tonite made my heart a little lighter. They were running thru the house like it was the Indy 500, jumping over each other, under the furniture, chasing play mice, plastic cups etc.

It was a very trying Friday. Hubby has a heart condition , an implanted ICD, and recently diagnosed copd
So---what I am most grateful for today, is that the fever he started with this noon (in the middle of a Zoom meeting with the other managers and HR), and went up 103 at one point, turned out to be from cellulitis and not covid. That didn't stop my mind from going there of course! His pcp was , of course , not in today, and wouldn't be till Tues. Noone else there would see him, they told me to take him to Urgent Care..ummmm NO!
I called the heart/copd clinic and begged the nurse to ask the Dr there to prescribe an antibiotic so we could get this under control quickly. She doesn't usually do it, but they didn't want him at the Urgent Care or ER unless it was dire. I texted them a pic of his leg, and they both agreed to what it was. His fever is down and he's sleeping peacefully. So I am most grateful to a caring nurse and Dr who took pity on me today, and helped out. Had it filled and he's taken his first dose. Hopefully it will clear this up totally this time!
Also grateful that the sun is shining, there robins are all over the yard, and it really feels like Spring out there.
And I am very grateful for this thread,,where we can share our stories with each other, be they happy or sad.
Have a safe weekend DIS family!

Oh what a worry.

Oh my!
It is challenging these days to ask for medical assistance. You were spot on with thinking through the safest option and then firmly advocating for that.
Sending hugs to you.

This is the recipe I loosely followed. LOL Changes in bold...LoL
https://www.dashofsanity.com/5-minute-fully-loaded-ranch-dip/
Ingredients
  • 1 cup sour cream (After the first time I decided to use 2 cups of sour cream....
  • 1 1/2 cups mayo I use Best Foods with olive oil (and only 1/2 of mayo....when I used all the mayo it was really salty)
  • 1 package 1 ounce Ranch salad dressing & seasoning mix packet
  • 10 green onions chopped (I've made it without the green onions tons just because I always forget to buy them....still good without them.)
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked & crumbled bacon, you can also use bacon bits (First time I made it, i forgot the bacon....hahaha....again still came out pretty good. Just way better with bacon.)
Instructions
  • In a medium mixing bowl add sour cream, mayo and ranch packet, stir together until well combined.
  • Add in green onion, grated cheddar cheese and bacon, stir together until well combined.
  • Serve immediately with cracker, chips or veggies like celery and carrots. Or refrigerate until ready to use, you can make this a day or two in advance. (We really like it with Ritz but any cracker works. Hubby loves it in the middle of celery.)

Would you mind sharing your taco dip, please??

Sounds amazing! Thank you!

Mine is similar to yours. I have no idea why it's called taco dip. My aunt always called it that.

1 block cream cheese, softened
24 oz sour cream
1 packet ranch

Mix, spread on platter

Chop up 2 tomatoes
2 green peppers
1 bunch green onions

Sprinkle on top of platter.

Top with shredded cheddar.

I find humor throughout all aspects of life and laughing important to living.

Thinking of a DIS approved funny I recalled my grandmother laying in a hospital bed surrounded by her 3 daughters. It was odd for me to see the three of them revert to their childhood roles and I guess Grandmother saw it too. She looked at all the grey hairs her children had acquired (Grandmother's hair was stark white ever since I knew her) and said :"Look at all my little old ladies". What with me being the only one of my generation in the room, I stifled my laughter, stepped into the hallway, and immediately called all my sisters and cousins to tell them it was official- their parents were old and it had been certified by a higher authority, LOL.

No DGD in house to tell us what to eat so the man and I had an antipasto salad of dried and cured meats, roasted peppers, various bits of cheese (that's the part DGD would disapprove of), artichokes, olives (she doesn't like them either) caper berries, peppadew peppers, and marinated mushrooms. Put on a bed of toasted bread rubbed w/ garlic, and lettuce all doused w/ liberal amts of herbal vinaigrette. Great fridge clean-out dinner and no heat needed.

I have been reading Stone Soup comics and laughing like crazy. The comic really shows the comedic side of family life as well as some of the sweet and nostalgic. I also found some DVDs of The Vicar of Dibley and am looking forward to watching them. It is a great funny and sarcastic show.

HI Everyone,
So sorry I am super late today. I spent good portion of my day throwing in to help with crisis calls and then I needed to work on homework.
We had real take out tonight for the first time in almost a month. We picked up pizza and wings and I ordered small loaded fries. Just because. I told my husband I like to support and do this but man it is nerve wracking carrying the stuff in the house and thinking if loaded in the cooties. It was almost enough to make me not want to. I'm sure I'll give in again soon enough.

I hope everyone is taking care and enjoying the day/weekend. I know it very much seems like Groundhog's Day. I'm not sure who is familiar with the movie. It's pretty cute. Take time for self care. This is going to be a long endurance and we need to keep ourselves steady to keep going.

Gratitude today:

1. People still willing to work in restaurants and trying their best to make it seem "normal"
2. It was a nice day today and went for a walk when I needed clear my head.
3. I caught up with a friend I haven't talked to in ages. We laughed and joked and it seemed like no time had passed.

Peace and good health to all.

Question of the day: 4/4 What are you doing for self-care?
I think the main thing I am doing is trying to keep busy to keep the anxiety at bay. I've been retired a little over a year so used to being home. I have made a jigsaw puzzle from a family photo for DGD 3yo for Easter. Worked to make a little box to mail to her for Easter seeing as we can't get together. Found a purple (Her favorite color) necklace in the play clothes and made a match the eater eggs game for her. It may be for her but is making me happy doing it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed a treat tonight, Tina :) I understand your reservations about take out. IHOP is offering free delivery and 20% off through April 19th. I am a big fan of their pancakes especially with an added treat of chocolate chips inside them, but am not sure I'd try delivery. I would love to help support the closest IHOP I used to often go to, all-around great employees.

Groundhog Day was actually a sermon topic at church back in February! I should watch the movie extra now, it was cute :)

Breezy Carol, what a fun gift you made your grand daughter of the puzzle picture :)

Three positives from today:

Taking household supply inventory and in the process getting some cleaning/organizing done as well. I admit to be glad the biggest of this task is over.

Finishing an enjoyable Love Inspired romance book by Tina Radcliffe called Finding the Road Home.

Reading a Good New story of Kroger workers getting a hero raise right now. Grocery store workers sure are making an extra difference right now!
