The tortoiseshell is Tabitha (Tabby Joy) and she has the loudest purr of any cat I know! DS is really “her person”, but she loves all of us, and puts me to bed most nights.

The little grey one is Abigail (Abby Grace) and she’s more skittish. I’m the only one she will really cuddle with, but she’s super smart and loves to play, even at 12!

(And yes, they really do go out on leashes!)

I'd like to give myself a pat on the back for getting those photos loaded...some were sideways, but at least I managed it!

Typical fall day here for us - cloudy, cool, humid, spitting rain, down pour a few minutes ago and...now the sun is shining. I think we might be getting more rain later this afternoon or evening??? I'm starting to lose track of the weather. One thing I have noticed in past day or three are the leaves on the road and ground in general, and turning colors on the trees. They are starting to cut the corn and dove season has the empty fields banging and booming away.

I put a small whole roaster in the crock pot this morning. Plan will be to have chicken this evening, soup tomorrow or Thursday. Leftovers for lunch a time or two this week as well.

I'm on the road most of Thursday, down to OC & points in southern DE to various jobsites. I may stop at one of the local farm markets and grab some pumpkins to put at the end of the driveway and on the porch. I cut some corn stalks from our corn this weekend but was out of twine to tie them up on the fence posts, so gotta get some of that. Saturday is back to work with the fence line & trees. Sunday husband and eldest are back up to family farm in far western MD to get ready for bear season. I've got to make a run to Marshalls to ge teh pups some new dog toys and maybe a new bed or two. Monday morning - headed to Orlando for a few days to chill out. I've already got 3 books ready - one new fluff book by Nora Roberts, one book by a priest that looks at Catholic doctrine on exorcism that looks like a quick read and pretty interesting, and my one re-read - The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. I highly recommend this book, it's fabulous. Plus I'll take my kindle in case I need more to read. If anyone wants to read it, or one of the other two, let me know, I'll send them to you when I get back.

This fascinates me! We've had indoor-outdoor cats before, and currently have barn cats. They want nothing to do with people...that is find. But cats on a leash is something I've know happens, but I've never seen it. Do you walk a cat like a dog? Or is it about letting them get out to explore a bit and check out what's doing outside while keeping them safe on a leash so they don't wig out and play hard to catch?

A coworker has several cats - she has some that she lets out for a few hours and they hang out in the yard and do they cat things like stalk birds and roll in the driveway. These cats she can leave outside and they always stick around (in a rural area). She has other cats she can let out, although not on a leash, but she has to stay with them and doesn't let hem out of her sight. Then she has one or two that don't leave the house at all.
She has a lot of cats...I'm thinking 6 or 7.

Love all the pet stories!

Thank you for sharing a doggie history with us, apirateslifeforme! I'm so glad you have both a picture of your Grandpa and his doggie friend with him, too that's awesome :)

Sweet Jasper, Snowysmom! Great picture.

Such a nice early afternoon surprise to come on here to so many new posts :)

...Or is it about letting them get out to explore a bit and check out what's doing outside while keeping them safe on a leash so they don't wig out and play hard to catch?

That ⤴ - They definitely lead me around rather than vice versa!

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

Great book! I found it when my library chose it for a "One Book, One Community" read a few years back.

@easyas123 , God bless you for fostering all those dogs. I would have a hard time letting them go.

I found canned pumpkin at Food Lion and bought 2 cans just because.

Growing up, younger than 13, we did have 2 hamsters. My parents didn't want a dog or cat so we had Nosey and Nosey 2 (a replacement). My biggest memory is the hamster getting our of it's cage and my mother trying to find it in the house. This seemed to happen a lot. Also, one summer when we went to Virginia Beach, we took the hamster. When we took the ferry across the Chesapeake Bay (Before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel), my mom brought the hamster in cage up on deck because it was too hot to stay in the car.

Also, my brother won a white mouse at the school fair. Then my mother got bit by it. I think she had to have a tetanus shot making it a very expensive mouse.

And you wonder why I don't like rodents.

I am not familiar with The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks but put it on my Goodreads "to read" list.

DH and I had considered going to Chincoteague today to spend the night and watch the NASA launch of supplies to the space station. Watched the weather and decided not, which was good because the launch is postponed until at least Thursday night.

That sounds awesome that your library held a community book reading, PollyannaMom!

Indeed God Bless and thank you Easyas123 for all the doggies you care and have cared for.

Carol, your poor Mom! :( To me just the idea of a rodent....no thanks! There are two mice I like and that is all, I know each of you can guess their names! :D

Although, funny/fun story part of my email address does include "mouse." Yes, of course part of it is for our favorite Mice, the one and only ::MickeyMo and ::MinnieMo But my main reason for choosing that was Christmas related! Oriental Trading once had a Christmas line called the Mouse and the Miracle. I may have shared this before, if so, sorry for the repeat. Anyway it featured a mouse who was present in the stable when Jesus was born. I believe with all my heart that the animals who were in real life present at Jesus' birth knew He was (and is) special, I liked that connection.

I would have a hard time letting them go.

Honestly, I almost couldn't do it.
When you first get them, it's a overwhelming feeling of "what did I just commit to/get myself into? This is totally fouling up our day to day home life." By the time they leave they are so integrated into family/home life you can't recall what it was like before they arrived.
Roxy, our first foster, passed away about 3 months after we got her BUT we knew that would more than likely be the case when we agreed to take her on, Our aim had been to foster geriatric, ill dogs. She was abandoned in NYC, along with the owners young children (can you imagine?!?!) and so we took a lot of solace in the fact that she had a great few months with us, but we also knew she was old (deaf and partially blind with cancer) and ill and we were at peace with it.
Beatrice & Willow were so hard, not gonna lie. But they also went to wonderful families, and that helps. Willow went to her new home Memorial Day weekend, and we haven't taken another pup in. It hasn't felt right , although I'm feeling in my heart & gut that there will be another one coming to us in the next 0-4 months. For some reason these girls seem to find us in the cooler months!
We have limited ourselves to female dogs, as one of our two dogs - both male - is a real butt head but tolerates the female dogs wonderfully. He mostly ignores them, Duke our GD takes on the buddy/babysitter role with them.

Rain is coming down in buckets. I know we should be responsible adults and stay up and watch the debate, but I'm having a hard time talking myself into it. I'm usually in bed by 9 so that is the excuse I'm using at the moment. Maybe the dogs can watch it and give me the high/low points!

Good morning DIS family! 20 years ago today, on the beach in Myrtle Beach SC, at sunrise, I married the most wonderful man I know. A lot of things have changed over those 20 years, but I would still say I DO to him over and over again.
Its a very fall like day here. We had rain all day yesterday, the trees have dropped a lot of their leaves, just waiting for them to dry out to go over them with the mulching mower. Going to be sunny and 63, and down to 39 at nite, definitely not summer weather anymore!
Going shopping with sister in law and niece in a bit, then not sure what plans are for the rest of the day. He has to work (from home), lots of paperwork to get done before he retires in Dec.
@AuntieMe3 I LOVE your nails..your friend does beautiful work! @Kirby So glad you got to see your Mom finally! My brother in law hasn't been able to see his mother in law at the nursing home since March. They are really getting tired of these 'through the window' visits :(

Love those nails w/ the leaves AuntieMe!
Happy Anniversary Lynxstch!
What she said.

It really rained last night but is sunny now. Hoping to go for another walk/hike later today.

Anyone watch the debate? Not to get political but I really don't think it changed anyone's minds and it was painful to watch. They really don't need another.

it was painful to watch.

Amen to that -

Currently trying to get thru the chore of collecting up driving records from relevant employees, which I do each year. Each state has a different form and a different way to go about getting the records. On my last one - the only one that requires a signature from the person I'm requesting it for, so I need to chase him down or mail it to him to sign.

I'm thinking maybe we will have our first indoor fire this weekend, it is supposed to be cool, high in mid-60's, so we might be pushing it a bit bit I'm kinda in the mood to get the fireplace going again. We'll see. Saturday is a all day working on the farm w/ chores kinda day for us, so it might be nice to have a fire after what I'm sure will be a long day.

Happy Anniversary @lynxstch ! 🥂 That sounds like a beautiful ceremony! Twenty years has a nice ring to it. 🥰

Yes, we all watched the debate. Made popcorn, too - good thing. 🍿

Last night’s dinner was meatloaf, garlic mashed and carrots. DD’s boyfriend caught wind of it and traveled a good distance to come have a plate after hinting around all day, lol. (Then he got to watch the debate with us! 😝)

Took some pictures for Tina (since she’s mentioned meatloaf a couple of times).

Great nails, AuntieMe3, very creative :)

Hug and much congratulations to you and your husband, Lynxstch, so happy for you both! God Bless you.

As for the debate, I'll say I saw/read enough about it to know ITA that enough is quite enough! I continue to pray that as a world we would all do our part to better come together in kindness and in support of one another. We don't have to agree always with one another but we really ought to all remember each of us are valued by God! And ought to be given respect by one another. As always my sincere thanks to each of you for the joy you spread each day!

Happy Anniversary @lynxstch !
🥂🍰

I dropped hubs off for his infusion this morning, I'll go back and pick him up in a few hours. Meanwhile I'm doing laundry and have a curbside grocery order to get. Busy day.
We've had a large uptick in covid cases in our county and a neighboring one. I am thankful for public health folks and local epidemiologists that are tracking and provide guidance. These are challenging times for sure.

I'm planning to make a loaf of pumpkin bread tomorrow to welcome October. Looking forward to it- always makes the place smell so nice.

That's about all the news from here. Hope you all have a very nice Wed.
