Welcome Heidi!

Way back in when we were first married the place my husband worked used to give all employees a free turkey over the holidays. So I cooked it one day with the thought of soup, stocks, sandwiches over the next couple of days...well as it sat cooling on the kitchen counter, my great dane figured it looked delicious! She got it down off the counter and while trying to eat it pushed it all over the kitchen floor and under the cabinets. Turkey grease and remnants everywhere! It took forever to clean up! That was gosh - over 25 years ago I think! I still have a great dane, but no longer leave turkeys cooling on the counter unattended!

Dinner last night was what I call "freezer charcuterie" where I take the small odds & ends that are left or left over and heat it all up. Carol - did you mention Capriotti's ? Yum - haven't had them in a while!

I am not sure what is on the menu for dinner this evening, I think maybe venison tenderloin & grilled veggies. Husband & youngest son going bow fishing Friday night. Saturday we will mow. Sunday is my BIL's b'day and we will be having our traditional 'fiesta' type get together, something we've probably been doing for about 20 years.

I have had so many cats over the years, most of whom had their own little quirks. I think the funniest one is the 10 year old gray we have now, named Comet. His favorite thing to do is lay in the bathroom sink, or in the tub, and try to lick the faucet to see if water will come out. He has at least 3 bowls of water all over the house, and very rarely does he get a drop out of those faucets, but it doesn't stop him from trying. We have a younger gray one (C3PO) that looks suspiciously like the one @PollyannaMom has in the clothes basket, lol. They could be related! We have a 10 year old black one named Midnite, who will chase his tale in circles endlessly. Then when he catches it, he just lets it go and lays down and goes to sleep. I am sure I will think of other silly things some of them have done while I go about my day. Weatherman says only 82 with chance of rain this afternoon..but it's already 75 so my guess is that it will be warmer.
Welcome to this thread @Caseheidi ! Feel free to join in on the conversations, or just lurk and read. We have a nice friendly little group going on here, and we share stories of our days, our pets, do QOTD'S (question of the day), just to keep the thread going. Hard to believe that it's been going since March, and that we have 181 pages and at least 4000 posts on it!

Awesome!

Anyone wear no line contacts/is that even a thing?!?!

I'd like to ask a quick question to those who might have some insight....I wear glass, have since I was a kid (I'm 47 I think) and I have prescription sunglasses as well. Over the years I've tried contacts but never really stuck with them because I always found that one of my two eyes became irritated no matter what type of contact I had. It's probably been a good 10 years since I last wore them. About 3 years ago I moved from regular glasses to no line bifocals.
My question is - do they make a no line contact? I'm thinking of trying contacts again, and actually have a appt. on Friday afternoon but I don't want to bother with it if no line contacts aren't even a common thing.

When both kids were at home I would do that and call it smorgasbord.

DH is an optometrist. I'll ask him later today about the contacts. I believe there are bifocal contacts.

We are a chatty bunch.

Much welcome, Heidi, and Good Morning to all!

We are indeed a chatty bunch and a kind, fun group as well!

I love that we have 4000 posts! Thank you everyone for that and all the care that went in them, too.

What a fun way to start the day by reading so many fun animal stories, thanks everyone! :dog:😺

Welcome, Heidi!

I've kept myself busy this morning. While I was out on the porch ironing, Josh came into the kitchen (attached) and said, "Hey Red, what's happening?" Where on Earth did he come up with THAT?

I have managed to get him a little into the state project, but not like I thought he would. He likes finding a music video to watch - yesterday we pulled Washington (state) and while I showed him Nirvana at first, he also liked Bing Crosby! Not interested at all in drawing the state flag...he is usually itching to leave after we do the "famous people" list. I have managed to order visitor's guides from Florida, Washington, and today's Hawaii, but I'm not sure if I should tell him about them. On the one hand, it would give him something to look forward to, but on the other hand, it would spoil the surprise.

I'm not sure about dinner tonight either. Last night I made chicken fajitas and DH really put those away. His gut's getting quite large now. Thinking about chicken burgers, since I have 2 buns left and we've got all that squash I could cook up...

I believe there are bifocal contacts.

Yep - I have them and love them! I'd keep the appointment and see what they say.

I've worn contacts (for nearsightedness) since I was a teenager, but only had the bifocal ones the last couple of years. I do still use my reading glasses for really tiny print (think medicine bottles) or sometimes in low light but I can see fine driving with them, or doing normal around-the-house stuff.

I love the pet stories. When DH and I were dating I had a standard poodle, Cognac. When DH would kiss me goodnight Cognac would jump up on DH, put his paws on this chest, and look at him as if to say, get away from her. It was really funny. We had a westie when older DS was a baby (and for many years after). DS would shake his toys at Spunky our westie. Spunky would then pick up one of his toys and shake it at DS while making a little growly sound. DS would laugh like crazy. Those 2 could go on for 10 or 15 minutes like that. Our last westie, Snowy, would growl if we told her we were going to send her to the moon. Pets can be so funny and entertaining.

I have a day off today and DH and I went out to Breakfast. It was nice to go back to a place we have gone so many times before. The staff was very strict with masks and distancing. We felt very safe. Now DH is working and I am trying to chill out a bit today. Supper will be quick and easy as I bought a rotisserie chicken and some frozen squash to heat up. Yummy and easy, my favorite.

I LOVE my mutlfocal contacts-way better than my progressive glasses. and great for computer work. Go for it!

Thanks for the help & suggestions everyone - I think I'll keep my Friday appt. and see what the say/give me to try. Worst that can happen is like all the other contacts in my past, they irritate my one eye and life goes on. And if they don't irritate my eye, well then I'll be sporting a new look I guess!
I'd love to be rid of the need to carry around RX sunglasses all the time plus my regular glasses.

Weatherman was almost right today. It got to 82, then dropped to 76 with 2 thunderstorms. We made a quick trip to Aldi's to get some of this week's specials (by Sat. they would be gone). Hubby is all of a sudden into ground lamb, so I got 2 lbs of that, plus a box of brisket burgers, and they actually had bottles of hand sanitizer, so I grabbed 2 of them ($3.29 each) for my 'pandemic supply corner in the cellar. Stopped by his office, where the local food bank has been kind enough to donate boxes of produce to all of the consumers houses every week since Covid started. This week there were so many extra that they said ALL employees were welcome stop and pick up a box. Free food is always worth a trip to the office, as long as we didn't have to go inside!

So, that is my gratitude for the day, that the local food bank is making sure people get fed. There is a head of lettuce, 3 tomatoes, celery, 3 lbs onions, 3 lbs russet potatoes, 2- 3lb bags of sweet potatoes, 3 lbs of delicious apples, and 3 lb bag of clementines. That took a whole bunch of items off my grocery list for this week!

Have a great evening everyone, keep this thread going please!

Aldi's has ground lamb????????
I've been driving by the place almost every week, haven't been in one in a few years. I usually get it from one of the two butchers we frequent but it can still be like pulling teeth!
I'm going into our local Aldi to check it out (again) on Friday!

Yes, and its on sale starting today for $5.99 a lb! They have ground bison (which hubby loves, too lean for me) on sale every now and then also!

DH said that both no line and with a line bifocal contacts are available. They are both hard and soft lenses. So, even though you've decided, I'll add go and see.

I'm back...finally. I've read some but haven't had a chance to read all that I missed so I'll probably start the questions fresh from here on out and skip the ones I missed. :( I feel like I've been so busy but then when I look back at what I've been up to, it seems like nothing much, just hectic with lots of time on the road. LOL Hubby and I were in San Francisco from Sunday to early Thursday morning when we headed back south. Hubby had to be in San Diego the next day so we were going to go straight there but Hubby decided he wanted to go home first. We were at home for long enough to say hi to our daughter and the doggies, repacked a bag and headed down to San Diego. Hubby worked all day and then we were able to go visit and have dinner with my niece and sister. We went back to the hotel that night and headed home that morning. We dropped off a gift for a baby shower/welcome for a former coworker of hubby...we weren't going to stay but ended up hanging around outside while the guys caught up and having some food before heading home. Sunday, we just did lots of running around before hubby had to head back up to SF on Monday. I was thinking I was going to heading back to work this week but our attendance is still low so I'll just be going in if my boss needs me to cover for her. I'm a little relieved I'm not going back regular schedule yet.....I'm nervous more and more people around here are testing positive and it's making me think I have it. Ugh...I know I don't have it, I don't have any symptoms besides like commom allergy symptoms but that doesn't stop me from thinking I have a fever(I never do... 🤦‍♀️ ) and is my cough a covid cough or just an allergy one?!?!...UGH. Yesterday was a bad mental health day for me so I went to Costco this morning for some retail therapy, even bought myself some flowers and I feel much better now. I finally broke down and bought myself some reader glasses today and WOW....I really needed them, such a difference, I can read now without squinting. LOL

My birthday is Saturday....our really good friends invited us over to celebrate on Friday and my dad will be making me dinner on Saturday, with my sister and niece coming over to spend the night and bringing a cake. My niece told my sister she wanted to make me a cake. 🥰

QOTD: How do you like to spend your birthday? Do you like celebrating? Is it just another day? What would your ideal birthday look like?

So most of the time, my birthday is just another day. :confused3 The family will celebrate by having dinner and sometimes we have cake and sometimes we don't. My friends actually make a bigger deal out of it for me than my family does. Its not that big of a deal for me, even big milestone birthdays haven't been that big of a deal. We had a big party 10 years ago for my 35th birthday but even though it was for my birthday it was still a lot of work for me so I prefer not to have parties. LOL I would much prefer to go somewhere, especially Disneyland, for my birthday than a party anyway. Of course that's not happening this year, but I look forward to when I can get back there to celebrate when it does open.

We usually plan to go out, but this year I think we'll do carry out. I enjoy a slice of cake. I have a birthday in a couple of weeks, so this is a timely q. :flower:

Tomorrow I need to spend some time in the kitchen. I've got ground turkey I need to make into burgers and freeze. I also have some nice apples I want to make into cobbler.

Wishing you all a nice evening!
