Putting Passes on Resort Key

Is it possible to buy your park hopper passes beforehand and then have your resort put them on your room keys after you arrive, or would it just be better to wait and buy them at the resort when we check in?

Also, if we would wait until we arrive and buy the passes at check in, do they honor the Disney Club discount?

yes they honor the DC discount at check in, they are able to put them on your room key if bought ahead of time, but I guess some of them will tell you no. Ask for a superviser and they will do it. You could always call your resort and ask them how they handle it. I buy mine at check in.

If you are staying at a Disney resort and using a Disney Club discount, I can't think of any reason to buy park hopper passes in advance. It's more convenient to get them when you check in than any other method of purchase, and it's a form of free travel insurance for this portion of the cost.
(If something happens to prevent you from going, this is money you haven't yet spent!)
 

the only reason to buy them in advance would be if there was going to be a price increase before going to WDw

Yes, the main reason I was wondering about purchasing them beforehand was for the savings, but if the resorts will honor the DC discount then that will work out fine.

Now for another question, we will be breaking our stay up between two resorts, CBR and AKL, for 4 nights each. I was planning to buy 7-day passes for each of us, but how would that work since that would extend beyond a 4-day resort room key. Is it possible to do it that way, or would I be better off buying a four day pass at each one, though we only anticipate doing 7 days, so we would have 1 extra day that way.

I believe you can just retain your first set of room passes. They will no longer function as room keys after you change resorts, but will still function as a hopper passes.

However it may be somewhat confusing to be juggling two sets of nearly identical passes in this way. You may prefer to have passes that don't look so much like room keys. A call to WDW may reveal other options -- I suggest directly calling AKL and asking.
