UPDATE: I purchased the points direct this afternoon. They were in my account, including 2021 within a couple of hours. I was able to bank them into 2022 with no issues.

One note - my rep said that if you only have 1 contract they automatically match the use year, so I could not select another one.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

We just completed our 1st DVC stay, and my wife really wants to add 150 points direct at OKW - we purchased BCV resale last summer. I've read posts that if you purchase direct, you get "double points" in the 1st year - meaning you get the prior year's points as well. We would be looking for February use year to match our BCV contract, so I'm curious if this holds true for all purchases. Thanks

I think you would need to buy before 31st Jan otherwise you would be in Feb 2022 UY

That is correct. I have October use year and I needed to add on more direct points before Sept 2021 to get the previous years points.

Now I'm curious how big of a pain it would be to have a March use year on this, with a Feb on my resale.

I wouldn’t do it, I would stick with the same UY. People here have different opinions, but I think a majority would say to stick with February.

If you call your guide and start the process, with down payment, your points would be loaded today, and you can call to have 2021’s points banked.

February is the BEST use year!

I would call your guide now and get the paper work rolling so you have January as your purchase date. Make sure February 2021 points will be banked to 2022. Yu jave 30 days to return the paper work - 30 days to consider if you want it or not. I have done this and sadly each time I have kept the points😂

The double points is really nothing more than buying at a strategic time for a UY.

They must sell you current UY points. If you buy by January 31st..and they have OKW points in stock.. you get 2021 points because you are still in 2021.

Buying a March UY would mean two different memberships it’s like being two different owners. Booking points together at 7 months for a single reservation can’t happen unless you transfer points between the two.

We have two UYs but we don’t use the points together. We book some nights on one and some on the other. Or we use for different trips.

Also since you are adding on 150 points, you can always add a different use year - consider when you travel and what use year is best for you. One use year is easier in terms of mixing points in the 7 month window, two use years also has its benefits. If they will not bank the 2021 points into 2022, then I would look at a June use year - where the points can still be banked until January 31st. In the past, direct purchases would always bank the points into the next use year up to the day before, but I am not sure if that has changed since Covid and the extra points that were put into the market in 2020.

If you want last year’s points you’ll need to buy by Monday (January 31st). Otherwise, they won’t be able to offer you that.

If you’re considering a different use year, and you already have February I would suggest your second UY be August. That way your banking windows won’t overlap. This strategy isn’t for everyone and can be confusing but its worked well for us. So for trips that would occur in November or December for us, we book it using our August UY, that way if we have to cancel, the points are not passed the banking deadline, whereas with our Feb UY, the points would become distressed.

And if you get the current year points, they allow a one time exception to let you bank those after the cutoff, correct?

Yes, but I think you at least have to buy a few days ahead so there is time.

I would not buy the last day of a month.

yep. Only when you buy direct.
I wouldn't say 'only'. I just bought a contract via foreclosure and they banked the points even though it was beyond the banking date. Probably pixie dust but they said because it was a new membership they could do it.

But regardless of how DVD obtained the points (ROFR, buy-back, foreclosure), once they sell it to you it is considered a direct sale though, right? Or are you saying a lender other than Disney foreclosed?

It’s not a one time exception. I bought my HHI add on two weeks ago, March UY. The Guide DOES NOT BANK THE POINTS. YOU MUST CALL AND HAVE MS DO IT! It’s not the first time I have bought add on points in December or January.
