Purchasing keys to the kingdom as a gift

We are going to Disney in early February. My parents are coming with. My dad has always wanted to do the keys to the kingdom tour. I want to purchase tickets for him and my husband to go together.

I don’t want to ruin the surprise as this will be a Christmas gift.

Can I purchase the tickets under my name and then later assign it to him? I just don’t want him to go in the Disney app and be able to see that the ticket exists for himself and ruin our Christmas surprise.

AFAIK, things like tours don’t automatically link to MDE. You have to add a Note manually on the MDE website. So nothing should spoil the surprise.

If I’m wrong, I hope someone will correct me soon! But I think I remember posts here from people concerned because they booked a tour but didn’t see it in MDE.

I would recommend checking to ensure tickets are available as many yours sell out quickly. I hope it works out for you!

I called customer service. They said when selecting who the tour is for from my family and friend list, don’t click their name. Instead, click to “add a guest” and put their names in without emails. This way they will not be notified by email of the plans. I did this and booked it.

However -

My mom, who is traveling with us, logged into the Disney app, and it immediately shows it under her upcoming plans for 2 guests. If it shows on her upcoming plans, despite the ticket not being assigned to her, it definitely shows up on my dad’s too. Bummer. Surprise likely ruined.

I guess I just have to hope he won’t open the Disney app until after Christmas.

I'm so sorry!

Can your mom keep him from logging in to MDE? Hopefully he's laid back like my DH and never looks there, just trusts me to book what we agree on.

I just did this as a surprise for my husband! I created a completely new Disney account to keep it a secret and just assigned him to it without any information. They just need a name for when you check in.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, but maybe your dad won't see it. Maybe if you call customer service they'd switch it to a different account for you?

How did it go @Junebug2? Were you able to surprise your dad?

I hope they enjoy their tour. KTTK is on our bucket list when my daughter gets older.
