Purchasing direct minimum after a resale purchase

We were thinking of adding on two 125 or 150 point contracts instead of one 250 or 300 point contract, so if as our kids get older and don't all travel with us and we don't have to have 2 BRs we could potentially sell one contract. We can do that, correct?

CarolMN already answered but I will add that you will be paying closing costs on both contracts. This is a small price to pay if you want to downsize as it seems there is more of a market for 150 points contracts than 300 point contracts.

Also to add I would purchase 2, 150 contracts as that is the current blue card minimum that you pass down to your kids. If you bought 2 125 point contracts neither would be a blue card by themselves. Your kids would then have to buy x amount of points to get whatever the level required at that time was for membership extras.

That’s a good point about the amount of points, and I think a better plan but we need to see the price! However, our reason for splitting was so we could sell some points and keep some if we wanted to, lol. We have 4 kids, so only 3 would get points then because we would have 250, 150 and 150. We kind of figured not all of them (if any) would want or be in the position to pay the yearly fees and might not even want a contract when they were older. Hard for me to imagine lol, but definitely a possibility.

i knew we would pay two closing fees, but as I recall that wasn’t too much in the grand scheme. Will our guide give us any pushback over doing this?

Can you choose to buy a different use year if you already own and have one? I don't think I would want to, I don't want to confuse any issues, but in reality our December use year isn't ideal for us. For some reason I was thinking if you added on more points direct they made you keep the same use year - but as I think about it how could they *make * you?

You can but since it’s a new membership, they require 150 points but will allow you to pay the member pricing and not the new owner pricing.

Thanks! So many nuances. I still think I want to keep the same use year, just exploring possibilities. I’m thinking two 150 point contracts, same December use year as our current Riviera contract. Then the logical next step would be to add 50 more Riviera points and have 300 at each resort, right???

My question is as an owner of a small dvc contract, I am now officially a dvc member, just not a blue card holder yet. I want to buy VGF of 150 pts, will I qualify for direct member incentives or do I pay a new member price because I do not yet have 150 as a blue card owner?

As long as you are buying the same use year you will get member pricing. If you want a different use year than what you already own you will have to buy a minimum of 150 points at the non member price.

They will still give you member pricing for a different UY…just must add on 150…
