Hello,
I do not own a DVC plan yet, but want to purchase one. I have to start out with a small plan, maybe 50 pts, because I want to pay in cash and not finance it.
My question is, does Disney Direct, sell only 50 points to newbies like me? Or do they only sell the standard 160 pt plan?
Or should I just stick with a reseller from these threads? I was interested in Bay Lake Towers...was wondering what your thoughts were..any help would be appreciated.
Also, I checked out a few resellers and all the 50 pts said Pending already! Any tricks on how to purchase a small plan? This is all new to me..it seems like all the small plans were in pending status or gone already!
Thank you,
Ariel Girl

In my opinion in wouldn't hurt to call Disney and ask them if they will sell you 50 points. Let me know 50 points is all you want. If they say no then say "So I have to buy via resale." If you say that then they might make an exception to sell you 50 points. It doesn't hurt to try anyway.

At The Timeshare Store, Inc.® we have a distribution list we use. If you email us asking to be added to the distribution list at sales@dvcstore.com with your first and last name you will be added. Then when new listings become available you will be notified. The email is going out to over 15,000 clients so the small point listings do sell pretty quick. We have, however, found this to be the most fair way to all buyers and sellers.

I hope that helps and good luck to you. You have 53 days left to purchase resale and still get all the benefits just as if you bought from Disney.

Call DVC and get a guide assigned. I just purchased a 50 pointer at Bay Lake and it is a new master contract. They are willing to sell just 50 points but I am not sure for how long. The points will cost $130 each and there is no discount with the small contract. You will however get to choose your use year and depending on when it is may also get 2010 points as well! Good luck!

I think the technically correct answer to your question is that you will have to purchase 160 points to buy direct. EXISTING OWNERS can purchase add-ons with a minimum of 25 points (50, if you need to finance), but not new members.

However, I'd take Jason's advice to call and ask. The worst that can happen is they say no.

If that happens, get on Jason's email list and do two things -- be patient, but also be prepared to pull the trigger if a contract comes your way.

Good luck!

They are currently allowing new buyers in with less than 100 points (confirmed it with my guide just a few weeks ago). There are no incentives for contracts that small--it is full price--and he didn't know how long they would be allowing it.

If you are thinking that is how you want to start, give DVC a call and talk to a guide about it.

Good luck!

I did the same thing just prior to the price increase. Never owned at DVC before, until I purchased my 50 point BLT in Early December. I called on a Monday, made a deposit via phone, the paperwork arrived a few days later, I signed the paperwork and sent it back in the pre-paid FedEx envelope. I think I made my reservations within 7 days of my phone call. Simple, no-stress, no hassle.

Here is how I see it for BLT:
50 points @ $130 per point = $6,500 (Direct)
50 points @ $95 per point = $4,750 (Resale)

However, I think it is nearly impossible to find a 50 point BLT contract with all points for the current Use Year. Rather, they are stripped until 2012 (even finding any 50 point BLTs is tough), so it would take $500 (50 x $10 on the rent/trade board) just to make up the lost 2011 Use Year points. Therefore, I would add $500 to the $4,750 Resale cost. And, as the previous post states, you can probably get (I did) the 50 2010 points. Again, I put the value of those at $10 per point or $500, so perhaps you can justify subtracting $500 from the $6,500. It is like getting banked points via resale.

At the end of the day, it was an easy decision for me on such a small contract.

JUat to clarify - The 50 point contract that I purchase, was a NEW Master Contract .... not an add on. It has a different use year than my other contracts AND has different owners! My advice is to call first thing and tell them what you want.

As a new buyer last year the minimum purchase was 160 pts. for BLT. That was last February, and things change all the time but that was the rule.

Wow....Ok quick question.

I was thinking of adding on. But if I can get my "mom" to add on the 50pts she would get the DVC benefits without me having to change my stuff.

Here's the tricky part.
Can I use both of these contracts(mine/hers) for 1 reservation?

Can I attach it to mine??
Thanks
Kerri

sure...if DVC is running a deal where they allow new members in at 50 pts.

if you add the step of transferring the pts from that contract to yours, yes. you can also book 5 nights with your contract and 2 nights with hers (or whatever, but you can't combine pts for a single night) and then ask MS to note that the reservations are together.

Can I attach it to mine??

if it's not titled exactly the same, no.

I was told by my guide that 100 points was the minimum for BLT but I've really not gotten into much detail with him yet.
