Our Lhasa Apso puppy is 9-10 weeks. He was at his breeders and played in a playpen in their kitchen during the day with his sister and at night would run around their house. The breeder had mentioned he was vocal, but didn't really describe it. I've noticed if at night I try to put him in his crate to sleep he barks and barks and barks. He stands on all fours right near the door of the crate. I read I shouldn't bother him when he's barking like that. I didn't, it stopped after 5 minutes. 35 minutes later is started again and just got worse. His crate was with us in the bedroom so he could smell and hear us trying to sleep as well. I've noticed if I walk into another room and he doesn't see me he barks as well. It also seems that it will start as a lower bark with a few grumbles and pouting but then becomes a full on bark and he gets himself all wound up. This continued all night Sunday until 1:30 am when I gave up and let him sleep on the bed. He did well on the bed, didn't make a mess and slept but I don't want him to think this is how it's going to be. He's a bit small for the bed and will never be able to get up or down on his own since it's a tall bed.

I got him Sunday night and yes it's only Tuesday and while I'm at work he is in his crate area with all his toys and soft instrumental music in the background to keep him calmer. He's a VERYY calm puppy when he's got free reign. He just wants to sit with us or relax. He doesn't bother the cats, they don't bother him, he pottys on command outside and is not chewing at anything. I'm just worried he may upsetting our neighbors while we leave the house.

Do you have any recommendations? Some have mentioned spraying him with water when he barks. I thought I'd try this afternoon having him in the crate in front of me so he can see it's okay if he barked giving him a little spray. Some have said puppies think the water is fun, so that may not work. I'm thinking it just may be nervousness since he just left his family environment on Sunday, but at the same time I'm worried that it may be his personality and should try to correct the excessive barking for attention.

My mother had suggested puppy kindergarten and I will look into when the next classes will be. Does the puppy-k address barking? Or am I just worried a bit too soon?

Please don't flame me, I'm trying my very best here and come for suggestions that I haven't thought of, or possibly someone else was in the same situation and may be able to help
