Puppies and the joys of our first attempts at being breeders (pictures on page 2)

Another request for pics!!

On our first visit to the Havanese breeders, a litter had been born 2 days before and they were so tiny and sweet. We held one not knowing at the time that she would be ours (her owner backed out of the deal). I just wish we had brought our camera.

Would love to see your babies!

My DW just took the puppies to the vet. They are doig fine except the vet wants us to stop using the heating pad. The mommy is doing fine and is getting adjusted to letting the puppies feed.

My DW is planning to take pictures tonight or tomorrow and we will try to figure how to get them on DIS.

I have pictures of all of the puppies but have no idea as to how show them. I would be glad to e-mail them to someone to post on the DIS.

We wanna see the pics!!

Kyle -- if no one's been able to help you post them by the time I get home from work, email them to me at rajah@stardustdreams.net and I'll post them tonight.

I love puppies! I can't wait to see the pics. :)

Can't wait to see the pics.

I have a friend who used to have a Beardie & he was truly a gentle giant. They are very beautiful dogs.

CONGRATS to the family, hope all goes well for the future with them & their Mum:Pinkbounc ;) :D

Okay, I got Kyle's pictures, so here are his puppies!!

Aww, they are REALLY sweet!!! Thank you Kyle for sharing the pix, and Rajah for the technical assistance!!!

The markings on puppy 6 reminds me of my doggy! I like the color on puppy 7. So precious!

Thanks Tammi for posting the pictures. The brown/red is my wife's favorite. She has named him and everytime I come home I find her holding him. It is going to be tough we have to say goodby to the puppies.

Kyle, these puppies are just precious. So sweet and cute. Thanks Tamie for posting the photos for us :)

Adorable. I think I have been confusing Bearded Collies with Sheepdogs. They look very similar

A bearded collie looks a great deal like an Old English Sheepdog because OES were bred out of or from Bearded Collies. Border collies were also bred from bearded collies and you occassionally get a near border collie out a beardie litter.

Beardie - tail
OES - no tail ;)

Also, Beardies aren't quite as "bulky" as OES, if I'm not mistaken - correct? (Just getting it straight in my head)

I LOVE the mismarked one - should be a beauty, even if it's not a show quality dog. :)

Are the bearded collies as active and as smart as the border collies? The high level of exercise needed by border collies has always prevented me from considering buying one.

Congratulations on the puppies. They are very cute!

My Dad breeds Bloodhounds and he just had a litter last Tuesday. Puppies grow so fast in the first six months.

Letting them go will be hard but as long as you know they are going to a good home and are able to keep in contact with them if you want then it will be easier. My father lets people know that if for some reason they can't keep the dogs to bring them back to him and he will find a home for them.

Glad to see the pictures finally made it up.:D

Cookie is correct. A male beardie is about 50 to 55 pounds and a female beardie is 40 to 45 pounds. OES are in the 80 to 90 pound range and really are livestock protection dogs as opposed to herders.

Beardies are not any where near as compulsive as border collies. Beardies like to have jobs to do but do not need a great deal of physical activiity if you are not showing them or competing in herding. Our beardies play some sort of game from time to time running around the furniture for a bit and then take a nap.

We have competed in some herding trials and that requires the dog to be in good shape.

Our beardies have me trained to walk them at night as starting at 8 PM I can not make a move towards the front door without being surrounded by beardies wanting a walk.

Kyle,
Good luck with your new litter. I fondly remember delivering my first litter of Rottweilers. What a great experience, espeically for your children.
I believe when the time comes to give the puppies to new homes/families you will feel relieved and thankful. Puppies are ALOT of work and after 8 weeks of caring for them you'll be happy someone will be caring for them for a change!
Great pictures by the way!
