Pulled the trigger!

And I get how a lot of people in these boards dislike the financing option, and overall I agree any interest sucks. But we bought our first DVC direct at AKV in our late 20’s and financed after putting 20% down for 5 years. It allowed us to buy direct at AKV in the 90’s where If we would have waited the same 5 years to pay cash the direct price had increased almost as much as the interest had built up over the same time frame. So for us on that first purchase it worked out okay.
This! It IS a little crazy to finance . . . but yet, waiting gets you 30% price hikes! Maybe I can just justify DVC no matter what, LOL.

I feel the same. If I would have financed my Poly resale contract in March of 2020 like I wanted to instead of waiting until I had all the cash, I would have saved $25-35 per point. That's just in one year.

I will say the fact that Disney carries the note on direct financing is nice. And while they do run a credit check, they don't report to the bureaus so you won't have a $20,000+ timeshare loan on your credit report.

With my DD starting her animation course in Canada, high pressure, lots of work and alone, I gifted her with the promise of a WDW summer vacation!

We bought our first resale 100 pts SSR Mid March, we just received our title, and are still waiting for DVC membership. Got it at a good price given the sudden price increase.

Yesterday, I closed on a 50 pt Poly, also on resale. Expensive but prices can get worse.

This DVC for me is her lifeline to happiness and inspiration.
We have enough points for her to enjoy simple annual vacations.

We look forward to be Welcomed Home starting Summer 2022.

With the minimum direct increase we finally pulled the trigger since we want to start with lower points and add on as needed. In the end we were really debating OKW vs Riviera but decided to go with Riviera despite the restrictions and higher price per point. I know there is a lot of contention around Riviera but the "buy where you want to stay" and longer deed length is what sold it for us. I have been waiting over five years (while stalking the forums) for us to get our financials in a spot where we could make this huge purchase. It doesn't feel real yet despite the very real amount of money that has left my bank account haha :)

I was worried we wouldn't have enough time before the June 3rd deadline but the direct purchase process is scarily quick. We didn't finance so maybe that had something to do with it but we had a membership number and points within a few hours. They tried to push the December UY, which didn't work for our vacation schedules but our guide was able to get us the one we wanted. We had a DVC "research" trip booked for July using rental points where we were going to check out the resorts before we made our decision but we played right into Disney's manipulating hands with the upcoming increase.

Does anybody happen to know what you get in the mail with a direct purchase? Should I expect a welcome packet of some kind and our DVC member cards?

Congratulations and Welcome Home! The Riviera is amazing! We are either looking to add more there (currently own 200 points there) via resale or wait for VGF2 direct (we also own 200 points at VGF currently). So I caution you, addonitis is very real! :)

Congrats!! When we closed in 2019, we received a standard welcome packet filled with a bunch of brochures, information, DVD, etc. Also got the backpack and two DVC magnets.

I did want to highlight one phrase of your comment though: what I think a lot of people may not realize, but the Riviera resale restrictions only kick-in if you sell your contract (or if you BUY resale). If you never sell your direct contract, then you're golden (yes, I know things change), so I just wanted to point this out. We had to request our blue cards online separately though as they were not automatically mailed out.

Thank you everyone! I am still having to remind myself it finally happened. We now have to figure out what to do with the 2020 points since we would not have had them with my original purchase timeline. We have a trip this July but they were not able to get us in for a welcome home visit, so we banked them for now. Extra points is an excellent problem to have though! :D

With regards to financing, while it feels good to pay in full, I do regret not jumping on DVC back when I first found out about it. It would have been nice to get three 25 point contracts back when that was the min so each of my kids could have a direct membership when we were ready to pass it on. I haven't run the numbers but with the escalating prices, minimum increases and the points to use over that same time period towards vacations I think we are paying more overall now even when factoring in interest. That being said my husband who only is interested in DVC because it makes me happy, feels much better about the purchase now than he would have 3-5 years ago. So that is worth a lot. We do really love Riviera as well so in the end it worked out. I had addonitis before we even bought as I want to eventually add a MK resort but I will have to give my husband some time to recover from the Riviera purchase first lol.

Congrats to all the other new owners!!!
